As people have said, this is an industry where shit like GG happened and where LGBTQ content is shunned and constantly mocked, so I don't know where the fuck you thing Gaming as a whole is "Left-Leaning"
Gotta say they massively failed then being on the periphery of that game the biggest thing that reached me is the Ronda Rousy publicity hire and that's about as unprogressive or left as it gets to me.Unfortunately racism and sexism isn't a "politically right"-only trait. The industry could be left leaning in how they vote or seek to portray themselves, but still hold sexist or racist values as normal. Just look at the stories coming from NRS, where the "boys club" in development seemed to be very sexist, but they tried to make their advertising of MK11 left-leaning and progressive.
All those issues exist and need to be tackled, agreed. That doesn't mean that the majority of people working in the industry, especially among the rank and file, and right-wing.
The idea that the gaming industry would have very different leanings than it's hardcore fans seems absurd to me given that it's not an industry anyone would want to work in if they weren't really passionate about video games given that the same skills required can get you way more money and benefits in other industries
I'd argue putting on a front about how liberal and left leaning you are when you act like the total opposite means you aren't left leaning at all. Quite the opposite.
Contributing to a sexist and anti worker rights system may not mean that you're sexist and anti worker rights, but you're still contributing and likely benefiting from it too. What any one person is or is not is fairly meaningless at the scale of systematic discrimination, and looking at the individual for a relief from it is just plain naive.

Are we just re-writing history wholesale now?
It's a culture your industry fostered and allows to continue for its own benefit. You don't get to wash your hands of it simply because you think your coworkers are generally good people. That GamerGate garbage that is mentioned in this thread is NOT the industry.
All of their video stuff is fantastic, Savepoint most of all. Here's something.
Since some people haven't been keeping up with Waypoint, lets suggest some great content of theirs to pass around. Their 72hr Savepoint Trans Lifeline stream was pretty dope this weekend. Check it out if you haven't.
A lot of corporate industry issues are due to greed or apathy, not politics.

Merge them back with Giantbomb. Bring Patrick and Austin back and the rest. They're too good for Vice.
By that logic, pretty much anyone working for a company in capitalist system would be right-leaning by default, regardless of personal beliefs or actions.
That is a pretty radical stance...
I personally found the article that Monster Hunter reminded them too much of Trump son's killing animals to be the shining example of "wut" from their site.quoting austin walker himself, both the idea that they lost their voice because of these tweets and also about the games industry being right leaning is one of those "so bad that i went to sleep" hot takes
Yeah I agree. Breakfast and Battlegrounds for example, I loved every episode of it. Makes me wanna go back and watch it. Their articles are one of the only video game site's articles I pay attention to. GB and Waypoint have been my 2 lead non-forum videogame sites for years. All of their video stuff is fantastic, Savepoint most of all.
I've also been a big fan of their reviews and the odd article. Dia Lacina's articles are incredible reads, for instance.
I would say gamers skew right, without a question, but industry people skew left.
tell that to the women/trans people that got into game development and either had horrible experiences or quit due to the harassment. This happened in Netherrealm and we learned it a few days ago.Haha. Came to say the same thing. Not only do creative industries inherently skew left, the gaming industry is pretty left leaning if you ask me.
just try to defend workers' rights as well and see how far you can get.tell that to the women/trans people that got into game development and either had horrible experiences or quit due to the harassment. This happened in Netherrealm and we learned it a few days ago.

This is true in any industry though. Employees may lean in one direction, but rarely the people at the top agree or care.just try to defend workers' rights as well and see how far you can get.
