Framerate stats:

Getting harder and harder for base PS4 and especially Xbox One to 'keep up'. 450p-572p and as low as 12fps on Xbox One is pretty terrible. PS4 aint much better with 540p-1080p and as low as 14fps.

Not saying this game is a looker, but that's the only way these sort of devs can push the systems further towards the end of its life; just nuke the res a bit.

Gotta be real though, in the case of Man of Medan this has to be mainly down to lack of optimisation. The game doesn't look amazing and runs way worse than even Until Dawn for example. It's just a technical mess, I wouldn't merely put this on the consoles' lack of power

these are some atrocious minimum resolution for the base consoles, seems like a technical mess.
Excuse me what?

960x540?
800x450?
you are not even considering that the game is not rendering on the full screen, so in actuallity it renders even less pixels:
960x408
800x340

I really don't know what happened to Supermassive, after Until Dawn they only made mediocre or poor performing games.
Sure they don't have an AAA budget but at the same time they are capable developers, not beginners.

The "next gen" posts don't really make sense here cause this is definitely a case of the game not being optimized enough.

It's weird. This game and control. With this game I want to immediately compare it to Until Dawn and Detroit which both look better and perform better. Even on PS4. 1080p/30 solid

Uncharted 4 and LL also look better and perform better than Control on vanilla PS4. Also far larger environments and verticality of the game.

I don't think your last statement about consoles keeping up is fair when all it seems to be is bad optimization. Of course they're far weaker relative to the CPU/GPU options we have now but just blaming it on their power when we have other similar type games to compare these new games to is a bit short sighted.

How could you do that, as a developer, when you know only 5-10% of your audience has the enhanced machines?
Fuck the rest, they should be able to afford the upgrades, right?

so on base ps4, this game can go as down on rendering resolution as < 20% of 1080p, what the hell.

I agree with you in part, but it is no secret that especially Xbox One is having a hard time lately getting all the recent games to look decent and run smoothly. It depends on optimisation for sure, but the power gap is not doing it any favours. Its weird that Gears 5, another UE4 game, runs at 1080p and smooth 30fps and this game barely scrapes Vita resolution numbers.

Asking for next Gen to save this game is the same as asking for a shinier plate of shit

Nice job putting out a game that reaches resolutions that would've been embarrassing last gen.

It's finally time, they better give us those damn next gen consoles.

Reason why i am thinking of holding back some 2020 titles and play them on PS5 like TLOU2, CP2077, GoT (not FFVIIR, no way in hell am i waiting extra time on that one).

??

Until Dawn never performed well on anything. Not when I played it on a base PS4 and certainly not on my second play through on PS4 Pro.

Man of Medan doesn't run better or worse on Xbox One X.

Those guys only made on smooth game: Rush of Blood.

This has nothing to do with the consoles and everything to do with the dev \ game.
Detroit look better and this game is not above it .

No excuse when Detroit looks better while having bigger environments and more going on while staying locked at 1080p without letterboxing. Only like 2-3 chapters where it dips below 30 fps as well.

Until Dawn also had a terrible framerate despite using Decima. Sounds like Supermassive struggles with optimization a lot.

It doesn't surprise me. Until Dawn was an absolute mess performance wise with an unlocked framerate all over the place, bad frame-pacing etc

Man of Medan is one of the worst looking games I've played this year. Horrible voice acting at times as well.

First Control, now this. Getting flashbacks to 2012/13 but at least this time around almost all games are getting a PC version day 1 so I'm good and there are the X1XPros for those who can deal with 30fps.

Easy to say when you haven't played Control.
The lighting alone squashes Uncharted, don't need to even start about the physics.
Apples and oranges here. Control is almost all interior, loaded with dynamic objects and much lower fidelity/mobility on the NPCs (mainly thinking about allies). Uncharted is almost all large, sprawling exterior, with far fewer dynamic/physicsed objects and absurd fidelity and mobility on the NPCs.

This is some incredibly weird revisionist history. Until Dawn was NOT a solid 30fps title lol.

They perform better because they look worse and are doing a lot less....

and yes it's about time for new hardware.
