This has been in the works for a while now, but the chat filter seems to finally be online.

From PC Gamer:

Dropping hate speech in Rainbow Six Siege now comes with automatic consequences. Since yesterday, dozens of players have been saying that they received an automatic instant ban after using a racist or homophobic slur in text chat. Ubisoft has confirmed to PC Gamer via email that a new banning system is live in Siege.

These bans seem to last for 27 minutes on first instance, and prevent playing any aspect of Siege, including Terrorist Hunt or custom games. Upon second and third offense, the ban increases to 2 hours. After the third offense, an official investigation into the account is conducted that could lead to a permanent ban, per the Siege Code of Conduct.

Good. Make people realise that it's not ok to use. It's horrible and others shouldn't have to listen to your shit if you think it's ok. Keep them banned.

User Banned (Permanent): Trolling, account still in the junior phase.
Why stop there? Why not ban people that say "reported" for no reason or trolls? Why not ban people that talk trash and insult other players?

Also, this will just lead to people using voice chat for insults.

Only for text chat, but still good nonetheless.

But that means this probably won't affect PS4/Xbox users right? No text chat there.

I only play casual but there's such toxicity and improper behaviour in the game that me and my friends disabled both text and voice chat very few hours into the game. Pointless banter, spam, slurs...it has everything.

This is great, good on Ubisoft for not simply shrugging and saying "gosh, our clients are so hateful, but I guess they're still our clients so...."

Finally, glad Ubi have the balls to be the first people to actually implement this with proper consequences.

There is no good reason why every other online game provider with a chat option doesn't do the same.

There's still a manual report system for things the filter misses.

As Craig explained earlier this year, normal trash talk is not bannable, nor is "regular" profanity. Only racism/sexism/homophobia/targeted hate speech.

The replies to this tweet are truly something else. It's sad that this is even newsworthy, or that anybody has the gall to actually complain. Like "hey why don't you let me type slurs on chat, this is horrible" - what the fuck?

Replies include everything from Obama ruining America with these things to "what if I get banned for saying fag when I mean a cigarette" to "I mean nibba isn't a slur, nigga is, this makes no sense".

Good, however what if it's being used by said member of racial group in this context.
I mean yeah just don't say it online but what if you didn't know? What if you're playing with friends.

There should be a warning at least, right before a ban.
Edit: Oh right it's 27 mins at first.

This isn't a good look. If by any chance this isn't a joke, you're comparing a meme joke with no undertones to dehumanizing language created and still used today to cause harm. If you can't tell the difference and suspect nobody else can, either, then I'm here to tell you that you are wrong.

But what if I'm black or don't mean it in a racist way

/s

I do feel like this doesn't mean the issue is at all solved. People will just start mispelling it
Games need to go further.

The fact he was banned for saying Nibba makes me so happy. So many people in game chat assume they can get away with it for just changing one letter. Every game should do this, especially Overwatch.
