Uncharted 4 vs Unreal Engine 5 comparison [pic heavy]

A super weird comparison.

I'm not sure what we're to take from it, even reading OP's thoughts.

A full game vs a next gen engine tech demo. Two different engines.

I guess I can try to add to the thread since I got this far:

Uncharted 4 still looks pretty ok, sometimes really good.

The tech demo had great real time lighting and a lot of geometry.

Is there a game engine more triple AAA than Unreal Engine 5?

One is a full fledged game, the other is a tech demo from another generation.
Not an apt comparison I think.

Try comparing the tech demo to other titles that use UE4?

i thought the point of the demo was to mostly about how detail could be preserved no matter how far you were from objects
it's the type of thing that's tough to compare with screenshots

In the other thread with the video - the minute UC4 showed up following the demo... it looked really poor. Next Gen is gonna be a treat.

Kinda going off-topic here, and I hope it's OK. I never played any UC game whatsoever. If I play UC4, will I understand anything story-wise? Or do I absolutely have to play the previous games? I have UC4 in my backlog for ages but never had the chance to play.

Every story is its own thing but the character development counts every game so you'll miss that.
I'd say it's fine, you can play it, understand it and like it, you'll only miss past interections between the characters but that's a big plus for someone who played previous entries.
