No, he was chairing a meeting with supermarket CEOs. Briefing was the one at 2pm
Sure it can still be easily abused, but it's a deterrent, it's more time consuming and not being able to just pile your trolley high means it gives others the opportunity to buy items too. But other than that keen eyed staff could clock these folk and stop them as well.Problem with supermarkets imposing limitations on how much people buy is that there's no way to stop, say, couples alternating to buy twice as much - or people storing crap in their car before heading back to buy another horde...
Some parents at my kids primary school are planning to send their kids to school on Monday as they want to keep a sense of normality.
Maybe the pubs and clubs will actually fucking close soon.233 UK deaths according to Sky News.
+53 on yesterday in England
Some good news at least. Isn't that like a 10% increase in ventilators?
The problem with getting lots of NHS doctors and nurses out of retirement is that a lot of them are gonna be in the vulnerable category.

I see pubs all around still open, still full of people.

Yup, Tesco is now doing 1 hour happy hour for NHS workers so at least we have a chance of getting some food in our household.Yeah lots of criticism of stockpiling
They shared a video of a critical care nurse in tears because she couldn't find any food after a 48 hour shift
People are not isolating, I honestly think a huge percentage see this as a long holiday
I think the logical answer to that is harsher lockdown measures. Because people aren't even giving it a chance to work, if only 50% of a developed country with a population of tens of millions listens, no wonder it's not working. So Italy numbers still horrendous, if lockdown is not working then we are all doomed
Hopefully they get the right protective gear and the government tests too because they aren't from what I heard from someone who works in hospitals.
There is also some who aren't really super old and just left when they cut jobs or the work load became ridiculous.

Not trying to get into a unsavoury debate here but is there any likelihood of banning religious gatherings? Thinking churches and mosques have lots in a confined space
Edit just seen Friday prayers were cancelled around here but not sure about churches be interesting to know if they are full of old folk tomorrow
I can understand the people out and about gathering food, doing essential services, or people who literally just need to be out at work so that they can pay bills dont lose their house.I think the logical answer to that is harsher lockdown measures. i thought they were?
dont tell me people are going to church, or a mosque several times A day?

Part of the problem, I think, is that the number of deaths is a meaningless statistic to people - until it includes somebody they know/care about. Otherwise, it's still "someone else's problem".It's like, do we need to actually get to 1000 deaths per day before these assholes do the right thing or can we do something now so.we dont have to get to 1000 deaths in the first place
Seeing as we are likely to run out of beds is it at all possible to temporarily take over buildings such as hotels to care for people or is that an even bigger logistical nightmare?
That is the plan I believe.Seeing as we are likely to run out of beds is it at all possible to temporarily take over buildings such as hotels to care for people or is that an even bigger logistical nightmare?

For sure- people moving around on their own, going to essential work, getting supplies etc etc is fair enough- you can do that and keep your distance. It's the idiots packing out pubs etc that are blatantly ignoring itI can understand the people out and about gathering food, doing essential services, or people who literally just need to be out at work so that they can pay bills dont lose their house.
The people still going to gatherings, the pubs still open and still hosting people is upsetting though.
Italy just had almost 1000 deaths in a single day and their health system has more capacity than ours does.

"Another 53 people with coronavirus have died in England, bringing the total of deaths in the country to 220.Still no update on number of confirmed cases though?
The problem I have with the number of deaths, is that its always going to be delayed.
Except if one of you have it, you basically guarantee both of you getting it (the ball).I've never seen the tennis courts around here so busy. I guess as far as activities go, it's relatively distant. Just surreal to see.

Not even the pubs. People in stores just don't follow it at all.For sure- people moving around on their own, going to essential work, getting supplies etc etc is fair enough- you can do that and keep your distance. It's the idiots packing out pubs etc that are blatantly ignoring it
Really hope the lockdown is announced soon (outside of key workers). While I think it's a bit late in the day I think it would help with reducing the panic shopping and very much reduce the spread of it beyond your household.
The problem is that for the lockdown to be effective it needs to happen for a few months and we need to hope there's some sort of breakthrough in fighting this virus.

it's a pain it arse in stores queuing for the tills, because cunts just want to stand right up behind you.
Even if 650,000 people die, that's "only" one in a hundred. Sure, it's the equivalent of nuking Manchester, but I still think people would shrug it off because it wouldn't directly impact them :/absolutely right. And unfortunately I fear that they are going to get just this.
Shit, the numbers are really starting to increase now, i dare to think where we'll be at in a week or two, terrifying
