Bush: God told me to invade Iraq

President 'revealed reasons for war in private meeting'
Thanks, I was young when that happened. Ugh. To think the government can legally offer benefits such as college to minorities that it itself disenfranchised if they'll help fight in a "holy war".
I think most of them do, actually. At least the ones with a half a brain. My parents are extremely conservative evangelical Christians who voted for Trump. Anytime I engage them about Trump's moral character, they both admit that this guy is morally bankrupt and clearly not a Christian. The only reason they voted for him is because they believe that he's a part of the party which they think best serves their moral / religious interests, not because Trump himself reflects those.
Okay, so they think that Trump doesn't care about God, abortion, Bible in schools, gay marriage, etc. So this means that he's just going on the Republican Ballot because he knows that the people who will vote for those morals will also defend his tax and regulation cuts for the rich - his TRUE goal. There's literally no other explanation for why Trump would want to appeal to them if he doesn't share their values, unless he's using them to further an agenda of greed. The Republican party is supporting far more deaths than abortion - deaths from lack of affordable healthcare, deaths from lack of business regulations, deaths of the foreign citizens Trump lets these companies outsource to who produce stuff for the USA. Not to mention Republican policies are killing the environment - the home of our children, God's other "unique and wonderfully made" creations, and the place God told us to steward - a world which was so splendorous that people claimed only an almighty God could have imagined and produced such beauty. And putting the Bible back in school is a small consolation to kids who are too starving from lack of at-home meals to pay attention, teachers who have to teach too many kids instead of having more staff paid for, and parents who are too overworked to read Bible stories to their toddlers and help their older kids with Bible homework.

Why are your parents okay with being used as rubes by a greedy conman who pretends to be religious? For what? To prevent 5% of the country getting married? To prevent millions less unborn babies from dying than the millions more alive babies and adults who have died under Republican watch? To put Bible curriculum in schools that are so underfunded that kids will be too starving to pay attention, not getting enough personal help from underpaid, not-enough-in-number teachers, or even having enough LITERACY to understand the Good Book?

No matter what they point out that Democrats do that goes against the Bible, the Republicans are going against it far more. Joe Biden will not hurt God - Trump is, as God watches him put children in cages, send them to school hungry, distance them from their overworked parents, and die from lack of affordable healthcare.

Interesting, as Roman Catholicism is the original formalized sect/institution of Christianity, and Catholicism's longstanding belief in the heresy of all Protestant sects, including those of Evangelicals.

There was a huge moral panic and it became a part of the campaign with Republicans when Kennedy ran in the 60s that because he was Catholic he would turn the US over to be controlled by the Pope. That type of religious panic popped up again in 2008 during the primaries when Romney ran as there was fear of the LDS and the "other-ness" of Mormonism and how they weren't "real Christians". Funny, now Romney is held up as the Last Great Hope in the Senate for Never-Trumper Republicans.
