I'm in chapter 2, doing the first side quest of the game. So far, so good. Pretty much Cold Steel meets Ys/Zwei with Persona as a coat of paint. My only complaint thus far is that the dungeon visual design seems to be pretty dull and repetitive. This is a general complaint on the Trails games as well (although they have their bright spots), but Falcom should start using more distinct visuals for the layouts of the dungeons, as well as using more assets. They're too clean and blocky.
It's not stiff so far, it has plenty of flavor, although some choices in my opinion are somewhat questionable in how they chose to do it, and sometimes (one or two times really) the translation might be a tad too literal. Basically in terms of writing, seems pretty solid.
However, the complaint of lack of QA for the Vita version seem to apply here as well (I have no idea if it's still better than what the Vita version was though). I talked to an NPC named "Going Home Club", for example, and the three stats your character has are displayed with different names in the status page and the ingame messages -courage, wisdom, virtue is used in the messages. Kind, Brave and Bright for the Status page-
There's also one instance where Towa is refered as Miss Towa and going by the dialogue before and after, it clearly should have been Ms. Kokonoe, for consistency.
The difficulty settings seem to have some inconsistencies as well. I chose elite difficulty, but a message poped up saying that by choosing nightmare difficulty I couldn't lower the difficulty on retries, so I don't know if I'm playing a difficulty named Nightmare or Elite (should be nightmare going by Falcom's past games).
It's still early, and the dialogue itself seem pretty good (certainly miles better than the Ys VIII localization), but some of the consistency errors are baffling, and make me worried that the QA is not up to par.
So, how is the translation? I won't expect it to be as good as XSEED but if they're not at least doing a dub, they have to bring at least something of worth to the table. I got my copy in the mail today, gonna wait until I get as much out of Xenoblade 2 as I can.
