So I expressed some concern over the smaller size of the worlds compared to the original game. Others have said they are smaller, but with more going on.

I have been watching a 10 minute gameplay video of BiTG side-by-side with a playthrough of the OG.

The levels I compared were OG Random World: Level 8-11 vs BiTG: Level 2-3 by syncing up the elevator exits into the level.

I was surprised how much more time you are spending on each level in BiTG. I figured the smaller maps would mess with the pace, but in turn you are getting more time actually interacting with the world. Most notable differences are music, framerate, art design, but the soul seems to be intact.

I had kept my expectations low over the years, but the funk is here!

Can't wait for this! First and only game I've ever backed on Kickstarter.

To the people itt saying they liked toejam & earl 2 better than part 1 - this game doesnt forget about the sequel. While its without a doubt more like the first game than the second, there are lots of nods and elements taken from the sequel. The hide and seek element where you can look behind virtually every object in the game returns from toejam & earl 2, and the hyperfunk zone is brought back completely.

This is awesome to hear!! Toejam & Earl 2 was a huge part of my childhood, still love it today.

Fun fact, in the beta they actually had a brief period where they tweaked some values and vastly increased the level size due to several backers not being on-board with the new style. It wasn't great, so they changed it back. But, like most suggestions they've gotten, it's something they might take another look at if the game makes moolah.

PS4 or pc? any differences or thoughts? normally i'd say ps4 for higher online population but this isn't really a game that's going to keep its online numbers I think, so leaning pc I guess?

Yooooooo what is this synth organ line on this one:

Oh yeah, one neat thing I noticed about the Hyperfunk Zone in this game is that the music changes the farther you get through it. From what I've gathered it changes when you grab a music note, and there are several variations that layer on additional instruments each time.

It's sounding like PC and Switch are going to be the most popular platforms for this one.

Some excellent news for backers:

They also said on Twitter that they plan to keep fixing bugs and are working to improve framerate issues on console, and can hopefully get 4-player local play working there as well.

Oh what? I love that style of dynamic video game composition. Are we talking something like this gem?

It's not quite like that, although I do love that kind of thing too (never heard that Goemon track before, it's great). My favorites are the dynamic songs on the menus for Prey the Stars, Mario Kart Wii, and my personal favorite, Ridge Racer 3D.

Hyperfunk Zone is more like multiple different songs that get progressively more complex but still call back to the previous variations. I wish they were all on the soundtrack, the OST version seems to be only one of them.

Thanks for sharing this bit of info. That is actually pretty cool and reassuring they not only considered this but also ran a lab on it to see the real world difference.

I wouldn't mind seeing larger, slightly emptier worlds like the original's sprinkled in there.

It actually may be less "fun", but there was something to it in the OG. There were times I had a ship piece and knew the location of the elevator, but wanted to explore more of the level. Of course, with that came the risk of running into serious trouble and unnecessarily using resources.

Hyped! BIG fan of the original back in the day. I'm looking forward to introducing my young fella to this new one now. :D

Can anyone comment as to the performance on the PS4 Pro?

After spending some time with Back in the Groove, I can definitively say that it's best in the series.

It nails pretty much the entirety of what's good about the original trilogy.

Love this cover from a brazilian band that basically turned into a reason to go funkalicious

Also ... didn't knew the Steam version had 4 player coop and the switch don't =O

I was going to get on switch and now I don't know if I double dip or just get on steam > <

I live for this video:

Got my boys ready to go.

Backed this so long ago that it's sort of surreal to see the game finally come out, and I can still hardly believe that the OG game is getting a real sequel at all. That it's picking up glowing reviews only makes it that much stranger.

The physical box looks great, but I think the cheaper price-point and earlier release date will push me to digital.

Can't remember if I've ever preordered on Switch before, what's the craic normally for unlock times?

Midnight is only for the big Switch games like Smash. Most other things seem to be whenever the eShop updates. I preordered Trials Rising on Switch and couldn't play it until noon EST.

Enjoy guys

Okay so it turns out the Switch codes that were initially sent out through Backerkit were initially incorrect, I checked the page again and the new Switch code lets me play... IMMEDIATELY! The correct Switch codes start with a C, so if it wasn't that way when you first saw it, go back and check again!

What can I say except... JAMMIN

Got my backer code! Also, it seems to also show the code I'll receive with my physical KS box edition as well? Interessante.

Oh man playing this in handheld mode is just as great as I expected.

Actually that's a free extra copy since the physical box set won't ship until April/May, this way even people who only bought that add-on can still play on launch day. I gave mine to a friend!
