How's this look in 4k? Got a brand new 65" OLED that I can't wait to break in next week, saving this for that

I don't know how casual viewers are taking it, but this is exactly the type of fantasy stuff I needed right now. so many hours with these characters in Witcher 3, its so cool to see it all again

Two episodes in and this is worth every second of disappointment in the first season.

I guess they just needed to warm up because damn, I am here for this.

Also, the special effects so far are damn near flawless. Better than the past few effects heavy movies I've seen anyway.

Dune's effects are pretty much flawless so I'm gonna assume you haven't caught that yet. Nonetheless I like what you're saying.

So is this series canon with the games and/or books or is it in its own continuity?

It's not following the books much at this point. Very lose interpretation. The games are essentially fanfic with the books serving as the real backdrop for them.

Why they do Eskel dirty like that?

I wonder why they decided to go this route with the series. I have a feeling they are trying to get the gist of ciri's journey over with quickly as they can't really keep Cavill on for years on end. The Witcher saga deserves a lot more then this for sure.

I mean, its Netflix, so they're probably terrified that 2 seasons is all they'll get.

I don't think they are flawless but it's a night and day difference compared to the first season. Very nice jump in production value overall.

Nivellan looked fantastic. I'd love to watch a breakdown of how they made him. Seems like a great marriage of prosthetics and CGI. A really wonderful combination where you don't lose his performance at all, even with the absurd tusks.

I liked this much more than Season 1. This season felt more mature instead of relying on showing off Yen's naked body and Geralt's bath scenes. Obviously it deviates from the books a lot, but it works.

Exactly what I'm referring to. Perfectly emotive cinematic magic. And a great performance to match.

Holy crap this season delivered in spades. I guess I went in with low expectations since season 1 was just okay, but damn.

I assume the disjointed presentation of each character's story being in a different timeline from season 1 was mercifully axed?

Holy shit all the sets and locations look fantastic. I mean, for example The wheel of time doesn't look bad by any means but this, damn.

Is it wrong to find Ciri sexy? I mean she's 14 in the books but the actress is 20 years old. Only thing I don't like is that she wears too much make-up. It's not realistic in a few situations.

some questionable costuming/makeup choices this season. Ciri's wig was awful and her very obvious perma-mascara was super distracting. also wtf was Jaskier wearing. and Triss's hair. oof.

Two episodes in. Loving it so far. Although I wish there was a better recap of season one in the opening. I forgot so much shit.

Also Jaskier doing some PED's. Deltoids popping in 3D with pretty signature veins popping, combined with noticeable mass gains. Guess he wants to be as big as BFF Geralt.

Yeah wtf why is he so ripped lol

Btw I know there was a lot of backlash wish Triss character the previous season (for all the wrong reasons mind you) but from what I remember from the books they nailed her character this season. She acts just exactly as she would in the books. The games portrayal of Triss was always wrong imo and changed the perception of her character for the general audiences.

Netflix put a 15 minute recap on YouTube if you're really lost.

I actually thought of searching youtube right after I posted and just watched it. Thanks, though. It certainly doesn't help that I've been replaying the games between seasons so everything seems intertwined lol.

I enjoyed this overall, but I think it unravels a bit at the end. They have some characters do some things that are so wildly divergent from their source material that it kind of takes me out of the story and makes me question why they decided to write them like that. They also play fast and loose with some of the travel distances in that Game of Thrones jetpack style that really got on my nerves.

Still a good time and worth a watch, but I'm feeling more of a 7 than a 9.5.

Triss going to Kaer Morhen apparently on foot was a little strange. No horse, no baggage and no mention of portals, unless I missed something (also why wouldn't she just port into KM if she travelled by magic).

Portals could be traced. Maybe it was a precaution.
Though that didn't stop Triss from sending Geralt through a portal later.

And I'm still not sure how Rience found Kaer Morhen.

People complained about basically traveling in season 1. They did some big time leaps (decades), but also smaller ones to compensate for time it would take to travel. People demanded to the point linear story and this is it. Sure alternative is to make some things take two to three seasons to keep distances implied and authentic-ish.

Most likely they want to be established a show where it doesn't take 3 episodes of off-screen time for X to go from A to B, but have higher velocity on story development. GOT got a lot backslash for "teleportation tech" because they did establish themselves as show where it takes 3 episodes of off-screen time to get anywhere, but D&D got bored so they fucked it.

Cheers for the OT.

Watched the first 2 episodes and enjoyed them a lot. Episode 1 was very atmospheric and Kristofer Hivju was great. Nice to see more of Ciri.

1st season was good to great but felt disjointed tying together short story source material with mutliple timeline arcs and big time jumps. I think this season will be stronger.

Well yes, but she had a horse in the books. I'm not sure why she would go deep into Kaedwen mountains in winter on foot.

Yen's actress is so great.

Overall I'm not noticing as much of a difference in quality compared to S1 as most of you do but it's enjoyable enough. Season as a whole gets 7.5/10.

Done. Felt better than season 1 in most every respect.

I thought it came together more at the end, actually, when all the story threads that seemed tangential or just filler (not that they are especially compelling in and of themselves) blend into the main plot, or those subplot ending scenes that set up future seasons (seems like the story is gonna get craaazy with everyone out to capture or kill Ciri). I haven't read the books, though, so I can't really speak to the problem of divergence in this series.

It started out strong (the first episode was by far the best of the season), and got worse and worse closer to the end. I wasn't a big fan of all the strange additions and changes.

Hopefully this was just a way to get to a good starting point for season 3.

Even though I liked the first episode, they again missed the message and theme the original short story was about.. I hoped that they would fix this since S1, but oh well... and I really don't like how many things they are changing - the problem is that the majority of changes are for the worst : Look how they massacred my boy (who saw EP2 knows about whom I'm talking about)

Yeah they did him dirty alright. :(

I read all the books and played all the games twice, also read all the comics and played Gwent standalone for years.

I'm not feeling the first 4 episodes at all, they changed so much. Some cool shots here and there but it's mostly just happening and I'm kinda bored. I'll watch the other 4 tomorrow and hope something nice happens.

Really don't like:

- Why so many witchers at Kaer Morhen?
- Why kill Eskel? And with this weird magic leshen shit?
- Whores at Kaer Morhen???? Like what?
- And Vesemir is ok with it????
- So many different added stuff purely created for the show that serve no real purpose and just waste time of good book content

Really hope the other 4 improve.

Yeah I liked the first episode alot but after that I am really not liking all the changes.

Did you expect faithful adaptation from books with minimal to no changes and why?

imo it was pretty obvious they were going to deviate and create OG stuff, they already did it with season 1.
