Lol I think it looks great. I'm a fan of the setting though … and I have realistic expectations when it comes to fx and television shows… and to me, fx seem to be on par with anything you'd find on hbo or Disney.

Watching it right now. The story is whatever but I'm quite enjoying the characters and cast. Better than I thought it would be after the first minutes.

Edit: Regarding special effect or fight scenes etc they're always the least interesting bits for me about movies/ shoes. What makes it work or not work for me are the characters, but I didnt think they look bad or anything until I read some of the previous posts here lol. I think they fine

Finished. Liked it. 100% recommended if you like the show.

PS: Sophia Brown has an amazingly beautiful voice, and we're lucky she gets to show it throughout the series.

I'm a massive Witcher fan and I have zero interest in this. It's just looks.....not very good.

This combined with Cavill leaving the main show and I think the IP is gonna be dead on Netflix within a year or two. Which is a shame because it had a lot of promise at the beginning.

10 minutes in and I kinda had to pause it....this just looks and feels so bad LOL.
The lack of budget hits extra hard when we had Rings of Power and House of the Dragon this year.

Wanna give it a shot but with new of Cavill moving away I might be done with the series after S3 of the main show.

At 9:35 right now and on my third pause with no expectations going in.

I don't have much hope on this but I'll see the episode through I think.

Jaskier's magical lute. 😂 Seems so unnecessary to have him in this story the way it's setup. Hopefully not a sign of the quality and lack of faith in the show that they need to shoehorn a fan favorite character in.

First episode was ok, took a bit to get into it. Has the same issue I had with the main show which was hard to get sense of where stuff is in the world and their relation to one another.

I'll be watching S3 of Witcher because of Cavill but hard stopping there...and hopefully the data point of our account watching all the seasons of Witcher with him and then watching no further will get picked up by some business analyst at Netflix lol.

watched it.

It's alright. I liked the last two episodes more than the first two. The characters and their relationships are very cliché and not executed as well as they should, but it all meets a baseline quality for this type of stuff I guess. The main show is better, but not necessarily by a lot. The main show was never great either; it's always been just "good". This spin-off gets in that camp, but just barely. They really needed more budget and more episodes to tell that story properly. All the character relationships are rushed.

Honestly, this would have probably been better had it been produced as a movie instead. You focus on the main cast, streamline the bad guys and cut out some scenes, and you probably get something leaner and better. Would've had more money per minute of footage too.

Netflix really need to up their game in a post HotD and Rings of Power world. There is no excuse for how bad this looks given the budget Netflix supposedly gave it.

I like when jaskier says
it sounds generic, then she elaborates and it still sounds generic but then he's like "no, that's new"
Ive only seen the first episode but some things could have been easily rectified.
don't show dog guys backstory at first. Start him with "fucked the princess" that's all we need to know from that. Also make it clearer why they are sending assassin's after these two at all, and if they are supposed to stop them from showing up at first, why? When they wold get killed at the palace anyways if they made it there, and why then didn't they manage to get there In time considering it took 5 minutes to take out the assassins

Watched it and there's something about it I just didn't like. It almost feels like all the characters are cosplayers or something, there is something just off about it all.

This was really a whole lot of nothing, Netflix really fumbled The Witcher in such a short time, they wanted they GOT-rival, they got it and then then messed it up. I dont see people even tunning in on the third season knowing they are gonna be a different lead on the next one.

The lack of hype on this is deafening
Netflix completely dropped the ball on The Witcher IP, and I say that as someone who isn't really that much of a fan of the source material or the games. I thought the first season was mostly fine because adaptations really can't adapt books 1:1, but season 2 ended up just being fanfiction where the writing completely flew in the face of several major characters. Whatever interest I had in the series went out the window when they announced that the main character had been recast post-season 3.

Because of that, I have zero interest in watching anything else Netflix wants to do with the IP. Putting Joey Batey/Jaskier in this reeks of desperation and, frankly, were it not for this thread, I wouldn't even know this show existed in the first place.

I haven't watched Blood Origin (nor will I), but the way they handled the whole Witcher IP just shows how impatient they were with everything. Instead of steadily growing an audience and adapting the books at a slower pace, they decided that the Witcher show "need lots of actions and quick scenes, oh and lets have him say "Fire Fucker!" a bunch that's hilarious!". Then they just started making shit up, and it wasn't even good shit, and they were like "Oh, GoT has 15 spin off shows in development, surely we can do the same for an IP we made two seasons (the second one being highly disliked by fans) for and an animated movie, surely we can pump out another show about events that could just be a 3 minute flashback in a later season of The Witcher!". Not to mention, that they apparently even changed that story completely, which tbh I'm not even surprised. It's fucking sad, I was so hyped when they first announced that they're making a new Witcher show, especially when they said that it's helmed by the Daredevil showrunner, and then we got whatever that atrocity is. Now I'm just ashamed to say that I'm a fan of the IP.

Watched about 15 mins of the first episode and it didn't grab me and just left me wondering whether I'm actually interested in watching the show.

I dunno, maybe I'll try and watch some more later but I've just lost interest in this series as a whole.

Yeah it was big mistake by bringing this ip to Netflix. I don't know how much meddling is going on but for a sprawling epic series it feels cheapened and rushed.

Yup, that's a great summary. Any studio would theoretically love to have a GoT level show. But the reality is that it's a Herculean effort to pull off and eventually the pain-cost ratio just doesn't add up.

This was cast pre-everything everywhere all at once hype. I imagine she gets to be a bit more picky with her projects now

Yeah fair, I mean she was ALWAYS better than this but Netflix probably pays well I guess.

Possible I was never gonna enjoy this given my biases. Find the main series way more compelling when it's a monster of the week thing than when it's about Redania or Nilfgaard or whatever, and none of the elf stuff works for me at all. So maybe not surprising that this whole elf uprising, evil empire narrative just isn't landing

Never got into checking the show itself, but this looks kinda bad.
And it's not even about the CGI elements.

The dialogue is trite and low effort. The camera angles/actor movement tracking seem to actively show the budget limitations, rather than hide it.
It's just the little details (the map in the table looks like a modern print, the amateurish blood splashes, the way the weapons are handled).

I'm sure it would be fine to pass a boring weekend.

It's not like she was some tiny indy star before. She has constantly reiterated that she wants to do that Star Trek Section 31 show, so whe probably just wants to do what she likes.

That was atrocious - maybe they should hire writers/show runners that actually care about the source material going forward.

Isn't this about the conjunction of the spheres? I wonder how you fuck that story up, from what I remember of the video game it seemed like a cool story.

It really is bizarre how the showrunners/writers have fucked this up completely. I doubt its Netflix, they are pretty famous for being fairly hands off once they greenlit something but being super weird and algorithm-icky about deciding what to greenlit ("this material wouldn't be right for our audience" kinda stuff).

I tend to discount rumors about writing staff and stuff but I do wonder after how awful season 2 was, all the Cavil stuff after he said he is leaving the show, and the audience reception to this spinoff if the rumors are true that they don't like the source material. Which doesn't make any sense to me, if you don't like something why would you spend years of your life bringing it to live action. I also don't really understand how you think you can just recast Geralt and keep going.

It's wild how my Witcher hype has decresed to zero. I was still excited after the 1st season but now I probably have to force myself through this. More I see previews from this, less I want to check this out. Netflix really killed their momentum with the IP.

Netflix almost certainly do, but if the grade is now rated on a post HotD/Rings of Power world, then everyone's in trouble, cause basically no one's going to spend that much money other than the fantasy genre, certainly not on anything risky.

What kind of writing is this? I can't comprehent that this awful writing is in a show based on The Witcher - well, not that the writing in the original series is that better, especially in season 2 - but goddamn this is really, really bad
of7jdewa498a1.jpg

And they want to imply that Geralt is for whatever reason a racist? WTF? Like how? And why? Netflix, please just stop with butchering the The Witcher franchise

That one new quest in the free next-gen update for Witcher 3 that is there only because you can get the armor taken from the Netflix show, is miles better written than the majority of the new material by the Netflix writers

Feels like Netflix wants Witcher as their Medieval/Traditional Fantasy Setting Swiss Army knife. I mean you have your Castlevania (Ironically) Ripoff and now this D&D looking at home ripoff.

I mean just the cast photos screams "we wanted to make a D&D show but we couldn't get Wizard of the Coasts to agree!".

They really just stuck ears on everyone and went "that's an elf". There is literally no indication that any of these people belong to a particular tribe or race besides ear toppers.
