Hiiro

It's a game where you just explore and collect things and solve puzzles but it's just got a style that reminds me of older indie games/flash games. Just a really nice chill game to explore and play and super cheap too.

I think I actually got it from a giveway on here and am really glad because it's just really nice.

It's just a dumb beat-em-up with a silly story, but I thoroughly enjoyed it

Even among ice-pick lodge's games, this is usually not well know. If ever a game could be a dev's response to its fans, it's this.

Definitely not as obscure as the game in the OP, but Spy Fiction for PS2 is it for me. I stumbled into it on a desperate search for anything even remotely resembling another stealth action game

Equal parts wacky, clunky, and janky but in a weirdly appealing way. Its a Swery65 game from before Deadly Premonition. Not as good, but intriguing in its own way. A true PS2 exclusive as well, you won't find it anywhere else.

Nice pick!

I'm not sure if this really counts as obscure, but I absolutely adore D2.

Dunno how obscure it is.. But I never hear anyone talk about Haunting Starring Polterguy. I freaking loved this game when I was a kid. It's a neat scare factor type game where you have to jump in everyday household objects to scare the crap out of a family that lives there so they move out. One of the first horror games I ever played besides Castlevania and I still play it around Halloween.

Nobody but me (and a few saturn diehard) remember the best strategy rpg of all time that is Dragon Force.

People like to talk about Skies of Arcadia, but this series not being around anymore is the real tragedy. Come on Sega. A port? Anything!?

Mine is Robotic Alchemic Drive.
9xd3v3eev0a21.jpg

The control scheme for the robot was really cool in that each button was a different limb. Also since you weren't inside of it you had to make sure to position your character close enough to see the action while not being too close so you got injured in the fighting. The game even had multiple plot lines and endings. For example if you let your best friends house get destroyed too many times during the fights she would eventually kill herself (wtf!?).

Gorogoa, though I think it's well-known here on Era.

And Zoo Keeper, a Bejeweled clone for the DS.

Oh, and Kururin Squash! Such a great, original game where you pilot a weird helicopter through mazes where its rotors barely fit.

Not sure of its obscurity, but it doesn't seem to get much YouTube views anyway. PS1, Azure Dreams.

Monster collecting, village building, relationship sim? I'm in.

Immercenary is the most forward thinking game of the 90s. It's a first-person single player soulslike MMO shooter where you're dropped in the middle of a virtual world with no explanation of what is going on and you have to figure it out for yourself. I didn't quite understand it in 1996 but I kept going back to it over the years because it just stuck with me and it finally clicked after a while.

Look at these character designs!

Every single time you defeat an enemy, they leave behind a "huffman," a ball of static that slowly grows your attributes. You start off with limited Defense, Offense, and Agility but each defeated enemy makes you a tiny bit stronger. You start off as rank 255 and as you defeat higher level characters, your rank grows until you get to defeat the Perfect One. I wish this game would get released in a way that more people would have a chance to play it but as of now, it's still stuck on the 3DO with no ports anywhere else.

ObsCure should be the defacto answer.

It was a 1-2 player co-op Resident Evil PS2 game. It came out around the time Doom came out (or maybe shortly after) and had the ability to tape a flashlight to your weapon. B-Horror game w/skin of The Faculty looking cast/scenario. Multiple characters to play as and if you died, you became a different hero next. Multiple endings depending on a few factors, mainly who is still alive.

They made a sequel that came out (exclusively?) on the Wii, it wasn't as great but still fun.

Olivier Deriviere did the soundtrack to both.

It was re-released on Steam in 2016 with updated graphics. And in 2013, Final Exam is a spin-off of it that changed it into a side-scrolling action game.

ObsCure 2 came out for Wii, PS2 and PC. I bought the PS2 versions of both games last summer. Fairly expensive, but I wanted them for my horror collection.

Shadowgate 64: Trials of the four towers.

It is a first person adventure game about a prisoner escaping through a castle. Loved it as a kid and still replayed it often up to a few years ago. I'd kill for an up resed port.

Edit: Forgot to add a YT playthrough in case anyone is interesed:

CIMA: The Enemy for GBA
it's an isometric action RPG by Neverland (Lufia, Rune Factory) where you have to escort a bunch of passengers on a train through mazes defending them from enemies.

Not sure how obscure this game is, but I love the fuck out of Lost Kingdoms for GameCube. I certainly don't hear or read much about it, so it might be at least slightly obscure.
It's an action RPG from From Software, and it does have a dark fantasy vibe. Anyway, the setting, art direction, gameplay, and atmosphere really grabbed me. I also am very fond of the music. Also the opening video was dope AF.

Probably Ghost Sweeper Mikami for the Super Famicon.
I don't even know why I love this game so much, until this day I don't have any clue of what the story is about because I can't read japanese, but I just LOVE the enemy designs, backgrounds and its music.

This looks fun, old-school fun. I liked the anime as a kid, although I don't remember that much of it tbh.

Thousand Arms on PSone. A 90's JRPG full of 90's JRPG bullshit and I loved every second of it.

YEAH!!! I love Thousand Arms!! Great pick.

MasterBlaster. The best Bomberman and it was an indie game on the Amiga given away free on the cover of Amiga Power. It had some great original power-ups and coins you could collect and save up to upgrade your player between matches as well as 5-players local multiplayer with 2 controllers and 3 players huddled around the keyboard

Soul Bubbles on Nintendo DS. In a time when bro-dude games ruled the market, this little gem came along like a breath of fresh air.

McDonald's-sponsored game about killing slime and picking up trash. The main game was okay, but the TRUE endgame was a minigame accessed by the title menu that was a trash horde mode where you had to sort recycling into proper bins to ever-increasing trash raining from the sky. Played this mode for HOURS and it was awesome.

Two games that first came to mind were Custom Robo for the Gamecube, and Escape Velocity on shareware PC, but those have thier fanbases and even spirtual successors.

A game I remember really loving as a kid, but couldn't even remember the name of until like a year ago though, that has to be what I chose as the single most obscure game I love.

Ex-Mutants

This was an action side scroller game where you got to chose between being Axe-man or NunChaku-woman, had a scifi slant, good music, and fun combat. I wouldn't mind giving it another play in the modern day, but it's pretty hard to track down now.
