Modes.png

Party Mode
The traditional four party board game mode from previous installments has finally returned. Four players play on a board game map and compete to get the most stars, with plenty of minigames along the way.

Partner Party
This new mode is very akin to the Toad Scramble mode from Mario Party: Star Rush with grid based maps, albeit retooled for 2v2. Two players team up and get the same dice roll, though are free to move individually.

Toad's Rec Room
Requiring two Nintendo Switch consoles and two copies of the game, Toad's Rec Room utilizes both screens for new tabletop games.

River Survival
First for the series, River Survival is a 4 player co-op mode in which players work together to paddle a boat to reach the end of the river. Doing well in minigames gives more time to complete the challenge.

Sound Stage
Strike poses and shake the Joy-Con controller in tune with the rhythm to get the highest score in these rhythm based minigames.

Challenge Road
A single player mode which has players complete minigames with specific tasks.

Online Mario-thon
Compete in a set of five minigames online.

Minigames
Play any of the unlocked minigames here. Also includes an offline Mario-thon mode.

Characters
Each character now has their own special dice block with alternate numberings.

I just wanna say I'm really disappointed on you, Muzy, because you haven't mentioned this fella on the title as I told you.

Anyway. I'm looking forward to see how the online works because it's probably what I'd use if I buy this after all.

I watched Kinda Funny play Super Mario Party today. Some of the moves are disgusting like Lakitu stealing Stars.

That's what the reviewer's guide sent with the download code said. I'll have a guide written up in the next few days but seeing as the amiibo functionality was so simple I didn't bother getting one done by embargo :3

Appreciate that! Do you mind if I add this to the OP? :)

Does anyone have a list of boards btw? I couldn't find that for the life of me.

My circle of friends has grown too large. It's time to thin their numbers.

I never owned a Mario Party game. Is it worth for just two players?

I would be playing it online most of the time alone, I guess.

Yeah decided to pick this up after the reception it received yesterday. Been a long time since a good Mario Party game released.

I just saw this game 6th on the Top 15 Downloads on the eShop for September.

Weird for a pre-order to do that, even with the double coins so you get £5 in eShop Coins instead of £2.50.

Can anyone tell me how the single joycon is held? Is it sometimes horizontal (ie traditional) requiring both hands, or is it always used in a truly one handed style?

Thanks!

Title is perfect imo.

What should it have been that would have been better?

Except for the lack of boards, I am pretty excited for this!

The minigames look super creative and seem to make good use of the joycons.

Can't wait to play a few rounds with my wife and friends this weekend. :)

Both! Boards are played horizontally too.

Ah, that's disappointing. Playing the boards horizontal would pose no issue (as no reflexes / dexterity would be required), but if the fast paced mini games do sometimes require horizontal (2 handed) set up then it would limit accessibility to some people i would play with.

Thanks for the reply though, saves me looking in to this one any further.

Games like this made me wish I had a SO lol. Too bad the online is minigames only.

I usually pick Mario for everything, but I have to main Goomba in this game. I just have to.

I hope the boards are interesting.

The only disappointment for me is the roster. Can't play as Toad OR Birdo. :(

No Toad :( I hate it when he is downgraded to an announcer or something in Mario games.

I will definitely buy this game, although it's become harder to gather friends for Mario Party nights than ten years ago... We all know that. Maybe it would be something cool to do with the family on Christmas, too!

We're already planning a MP Night for friday.

Switch is bringing backup the Golden era of local MP.

Mario Kart, Tennis and Party, Overcooked and sion Smash are great for this.
