I think Murayama including a Berserk reference in the form of a character is a nice dedication to Kentaro Miura. I appreciate the gesture at least.

Besides there is probably over 70 combat characters in this game much like the other Suikoden titles so suffice to say they'll be plenty to create your ideal team. The only thing is the recruitment process and where to track down all of these wonderful characters placed throughout the world.

I'm curious what you and other Suikoden fans think about this; how hardcore do you think recruitment should be? Should it super time-gated with missable characters or do you think it should be less "guide dang it!" with recruitment info/conditions more readily available? I'm kind of on the fence, but the truth is, I haven't really done second playthroughs of games for years now, so I'm personally hoping more for the latter...

I don't mind some missable characters(tho I doubt they'll do that in this day and age) but the time sensitive ones can kick rocks. If it's something like o a character was here but now that city got destroyed by war so you missed your chance because they died or something that's cool.

Time gates depend on what kind of time gate. "Get here in xxx hours" heeeeeeell no.

This is probably where I'm at. I'm not entirely sure if I'm down with missing someone if I trigger an event before I mean to, but if it makes sense in the story then I suppose I can let it slide.

I don't mind missable characters if they incentivize multiple playthroughs. I just tire of concept of some folks treating the consumption of media as if it's something to be enjoyed once and then thrown away and never to be revisited upon again.

For example while Suikoden II had 108 Stars of Destiny, there was actually more than 108 characters however you were limited to the 108 you can recruit in a given playthrough.

For example choosing Abizboah and Rudolia means you usually miss out on Feather and Ayda for example.

Considering Eiyuden and by extension Suikoden being a time of war, I think there should be characters that have unreconcilable and conflicting views.

Like say there is a guild of Assassins and they are directly opposed to the Ninja clan, but there is a Ninja character and an Assassin character. If you recruit the Ninja then you can't get the assassin in your party. However make it accommodating that you can still get the full required recruitment slots for given endings, better yet, have multiple endings depending on your recruitment choice.

I mean I imagine if Crowley was recruitable in Suikoden II would mean you could not recruit Magus because they outright hate each other and are direct opposition as rival sorcerers.

I'd rather not Eiyuden simply just be a one and done sort of game. I also like to explore the cast and see the different potential routes and viewpoints they plan to include.

I definitely don't see games, particularly RPGs, something to be consumed and discarded, but the truth of the matter is, I'm busy and have a huge backlog to contend with, so I need to pick my battles. Every few years, I'll get the hankering to replay Suikoden I or II though. Next time, I'll play though the Saturn version.

Anyhow, those are really good points. In all my years of SII playthroughs, I still don't think I've ever been able to bring myself to get Abizboah or let
Ridley die to get Boris
, but I love the fact that exists.

I also hope they offer different either/or characters to make replays engaging!

No time gates, missables are okay but let the detective character join early :)

I think we should have missable characters but have a in game warning that the timetable is near the end.

For example the detective character in later entries gives tips of where and how to recruit the stars.

Maybe have a option to pay for information regarding characters that will be missed if you progress to the next battle.

It could be a red highlight on certain names or if the devs don't want to handhold too much, the detective says if there are still recruitable characters available or not at the time.

I mean even Kasumi and Valeria were mutually exclusive in Suikoden II, which is probably one of the bigger recruitment choices in S2 that I glossed over.

Also because it's a War time setting, I think death is something that is inevitable. I just hope they steer away from how it was handled in Suikoden III with both the protagonists and villains all being part of the 108 stars.

I do however like the idea of Seign and Marisa getting their own scenario and I wonder if it's going to be a case in which after the prologue you choose your main character out of the three (Nowa, Seign, or Marisa) or it's going to be a case in which the main scenario you mainly control Nowa with Seign and Marisa being side-stories.

Kawano's Comment:

In the first stages of the design process, I gave Ormond more attributes typically associated with dwarves and submitted a rough sketch of Ormond with a bushy, unkempt beard. But the team quickly pointed out that his meticulous personality would mean he'd most likely keep his beard neatly braided and wear colors that would mask the dirt on his clothes.

So here is the cleaner and more presentable version of him. What do you think?

Dwarven race in Eiyuden huh. Much like the original Suikoden.

Interestingly enough, Dwarves never made a re-appearance in future installments of the Suikoden series, whereas other humanoid races like the Elves and Kobolds were present in multiple games. Although I suppose each title added a new unique race per game. With Suikoden II introducing Wingers (The Harpy-like humanoid race), Suikoden III having Lizard-folk. Suikoden IV having the Cat-like Nyakobold race, and Suikoden V having those Beavers.

I like that the trend continues for Eiyuden with the Shark-like Shi'arc race for Yuferius VII, and Garr as a Beastman.

I thought there were Dwarves in III?

I'm on record here for not being a huge demi-human fan to begin with, but the porpoises in Tierkreis were cute.

Overall, people seem to dig, so rock on.

I can't decide if I should get the artbook, it's so expensive but it looks like the store is closing soon and I'm afraid of missing out

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - Legacy Backer Store (Closed) | Yetee Productions

###lang==en Thank you for supporting Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes! The Legacy Backer store is now closed for new orders. An epic experience from the creators of classic JRPGs, with an intricate story and a gigantic cast of characters! Welcome to the Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes - Legacy...

There's zero details on it so I'm afraid of ponying up 85 bucks if it ends up being a small and little artbook.

I never ever expect anything big, it's more rare to actually get a full-sized 200ish page artbook from a Kickstarter. The smaller the print, the more expensive it is, too.

I'm a little more skeptical of costs when I just recently got a fully custom print job of the Xenogears Perfect Works translated book done for like $60. Something with no minimum order number or expectations. $85 is a lot for an add-on book and I'd hope for something of quality.

According to the campaign goals the artbook is going to be at least 108 pages and hardcover. However that is about all we know.

When were they going to close the shop?
Aug 28. However it's only the slacker backer store that's going to close. The Kickstarter backer store is going to stay open.

Profession: The elves

Gender: Female

AGE:

FAVORITE FOOD: Wine from Bronni

For an innkeep, you'd think Cassandra would at least try to feign industriousness, but she always comes across as a bit languid. Still, that doesn't stop her from tugging at the heartstrings of the boys, who are never quite sure what part of her they're allowed to look at.

Cassandra hails from an elven town, though it's not clear why she left.

"Oh... *yawn* Welcome. Aren't you a cutie. Staying the night? I have a fine wine that's just begging to be...mm hm hmm...uncorked."

Kawano's Comment:

While coming up with her design, I had imagined her as a voluptuous elf who had a nurturing side to her, like that of an elder sister. She'd be able to drink anyone under the table but still have the patience to run an inn; while having the finesse to discern her patrons' unique quirks with a single glance. I was requested to give her some sort of accessory on her head that would indicate where she was from. It seems there might be a backstory to these here.

It's a trope that elves stay young for longer so just give us an age. I swear developer fears of placing an age over 20-something for women is bizarre.

I wonder if she's supposed to be alt-Jeanne.

Probably not. An alt-Jeanne would probably be more magically inclined and mysterious. The innkeepers seemed to all be doting-motherly types in Suikoden. (Save for Sebastian lol)

I wasn't aware that elves was a profession lol

3D backgrounds with 2D sprites on top huh. Well Octopath had some panoramics involved with backgrounds rotating for a perspective.

Although when my mind thinks RPG with 2D sprites overlayed with a 3D background, I immediately think of something along the lines of the original Grandia, Breath of Fire III and IV, as well as Xenogears (2D sprites with 3D rotating backgrounds for buildings and scenery). Trails in the Sky and the Zero / Blue also have this same 2D sprites / 3D backgrounds aesthetic too.

I am really, really looking forward to seeing how this all turns out.

I've said it numerous times that Suikoden II is my personal favorite game of all time, so if Eiyuden remotely gets close to that level I will be incredibly pleased.

I've been loving the characters so far. Squash looks darn cool, and I love his character description.

He is an accessory salesman from the Ornitha tribe. He professes that he is a connoisseur and has has profound knowledge of accessories, but sometimes there are suspicions that the real evaluation criteria is whether something glitters or not.
