Sounds like a good place for undercover FBI agents to find terrorists.
it always comes back to the Turner Diaries with these terrorist fucksWithin the channel, the accelerationists — people who want to push the country into race-based civil war — are trying to convince the Trumpist "normies" that instead of backing the blue they should murder them.
The problem was that they didn't bother to look before, and were probably instructed not to.Sounds like a good place for undercover FBI agents to find terrorists.
so can telegram just shut down the shit or is time to say good bye to a major app
Wapo pod cast said Telegram reported 25m new users since the purge. Insane.
It presents a real problem for law enforcement trying to track(lol) threats imo
Ah, didn't know that. Makes more sense now. It was literally a jaw dropping moment in the car earlier when I heard that. The 25M is probably attributed to the Whatsapp stuff since it overlapped with all the stuff from last week.
I feel more substantiated in my decision to move from WhatsApp to Signal. I think Telegram public groups supporting up to 200,000 members each can be very dangerous.
That said, Telegram is introducing monetization / ads this year to pay for their incredible growth, and they have increasing financial pressure placed on them, so I don't think they're going to go for the "censorship-free" angle for too much longer.
Signal is different because they are supported by a non-profit foundation. They also have a max membership size of 1000 people for any one group, and every group is private. So you can't cultivate huge Twitter-equivalents to broadcast your crazy messages in quite the same way. It's more a direct replacement for WhatsApp instead of a new social network.

For the most part yeah the more it gets reported usually is gone shortly after.so can telegram just shut down the shit or is time to say good bye to a major app
This is really the only real downside to taking down Parler is that now all the cockroaches are scurrying to a bunch of different little holes. They have "Donald.win", Gab, Neogaf, and now this App? I guess as long as it's easy to track where they are migrating it doesn't really matter.
Considering Telegram is host of major child porn hubs and other types of illegality, I doubt they will shut anything down.so can telegram just shut down the shit or is time to say good bye to a major app
Neogaf no longer allows "conspiracy theories or fringe content", surprise surprise.
Aside from the clear growth in for instance the Proud Boys chat group. A lot of growth is Parler related. The increase in Telegram users is definitely due to the WhatsApp TOS change, as WhatsApp went into damage control mode over it.
Can confirm furries live on Telegram. Not sure about the other group. When I first downloaded Telegram, I was told the primary users were Furries and ISIS.
Well, that and other things have cemented my decision to move to Signal instead of Telegram.
I think it's just hard to crack on these groups since they can be made private. And anonymity is bread and butter for the company.Isn't Telegram's CEO pretty huge on the 1st Amendment anyone can use this app bullshit?Wouldnt be surprised if they're allowed to stay
You make it sound like we're worse off now, which we're not.The more we push these people to the fringes, the harder we'll be able to track them, especially with these 100 percent anonymous services. The people that managed to get sucked in will have an even harder time getting out since it's so much more insular. There was a good NYT report on this recently where terrorists are going to be able to use these services to slowly build their numbers
