that's my problem, I always want to understand the "original magic" before playing a game like this. This is why I haven't bought Final Fantasy 7 remake yet .... because I'm finishing the original game again to understand the changes, attention to detail... and the "original magic".

Well, if you really enjoy this one you can try the originals in the future. I find that pretty cool to do, too

Any word on Switch performance? I tried a quick google search but nothing came up for me yet.

"Oh, and in case you were wondering, we've compared the Switch version directly with the PlayStation 4 edition, and the game runs identically on both machines (and runs in at the same, silky-smooth 60fps in docked or portable modes) – port specialist Seaven Studio has done a superb job here."

I just need to hear about the music
The excellent Nintendolife review:

The soundtrack too, primarily the work of Olivier Deriviere with contributions from Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima amongst others, is an absolute delight; an eclectic, expansive mix of old-school chiptune, Daft Punk-esque pop, Jazz, funk and full-on pumping dance tracks, it eschews the experimental madness of Streets of Rage 3's divisive soundtrack in favour of non-stop crowd-pleasers. It's also been fused together with the onscreen action perfectly, tracks sometimes only kicking in fully when first contact is made with the enemy; you might also notice the odd thug kicking some piece of background scenery in time to the music here and there. Streets of Rage has always been about battering baddies in time to some delicious beats and the developers have given us the ultimate representation of that here; the music every bit as vital to your enjoyment of proceedings as the non-stop action. As a bonus you can also unlock remixed soundtracks from the first two Streets of Rage games, so you're absolutely spoiled for choice with regards to what music accompanies the beatings you hand out.

Kotaku review says "Finished in an hour but played for 15 hours." So this can seriously be beat in one hour in normal mode?

Took me around 2 1/2 hours. You'd really need to blitz through and never die to get through in an hour.

That said, their point, which I made in my own review, is valid -- this is one of the very rare games that gets better with replays.

I'm so happy (and kinda amazed) this seems to be as good as it is. Streets of Rage was one of the first games I really got into so this is a dream come true for me.

Streets of Rage 4 Review — DarkStation

Streets of Rage 4 left me feeling like a ten-year-old kid playing his Genesis again, while still managing to bring modern gameplay and variety to a classic series. There was no way for me to keep my expectations low with this series returning yet Lizardcube still managed to blow those expectations

" Streets of Rage 4 left me feeling like a ten-year-old kid playing his Genesis again, while still managing to bring modern gameplay and variety to a classic series. There was no way for me to keep my expectations low with this series returning yet Lizardcube still managed to blow those expectations away. I can say without hesitation that this is the pinnacle of a long-dormant series and genre; a game I'm confident I'll be returning to for years to come. "

Looks like universal acclaim. I've always been more of a Final Fight and Kunio fan but I love all quality beat em ups so definitely a day one purchase.

Debating Switch or PS4. Phew...i guess there is no crossplay, right?
I assume PS4 will be better for online Coop.

honestly, when reading stuff like "stuck in the 90s" i am just shaking my head...

it is a freaking good thing that this is "stuck in the 90s", i don´t need level ups and RPG stuff in a side scrolling brawler. looking forward to the release later, gonna play asap.

its been a long time that a game release got me this hyped.

This is one of the best brawlers ever made. Period. This is the first and only release (aside from something like SOR Remake) that I feel understands what makes games like this work. It's a masterpiece.

...and yeah, stuck in the 90s is a great thing in this case since basically every attempt at a brawler post 1995 fell short. Even solid ones like Scott Pilgrim, which looks amazing, really doesn't play as well as many of the greats. SOR4 does.

This looks amazing and I can't wait to play it. Exceptional reviews for a game of this kind in this day and age so it's probably really really good.

This is the type of game I just kinda expected would end up between 60-70 score so seeing all those 9's is so awesome. I played the crap out of the old ones on genesis while chillin in my childhood room listening to my Skee-lo I wish CD lol.

When I saw players grabbing each other by mistake I knew they nailed the SOR gameplay.

Only issue I have is the bad voice for Blaze. God, why did they do this???

Would you say that this is another banger SEGA revival like Monster Boy was?

Ah what am I even asking. Your answer is apparent from your post.

Damn I really wanna avoid buying games right now...
