I thought metroidvania had peaked with Ori and the blind forest, but i guessed wrongly. Jesus Christ, I cannot put it down. Somebody send help.
I'd say that's because of how well paced the game is, if it was 5 hours longer we would probably be wishing for a shorter game.it's the kind of game that when it ends you keep thinking "this should last at least 20 more hours"

I loved how the gave every new mechanic the right time to try and master its use before introducing a new one.
I'd say, next to Cuphead it's the most polished indie game I've played, it really controls amazing.
Haha. You think that's the loop now... keep playing. It grows and opens up so much, it's incredible. Always new things, too. Finally started and I'm loving it. It's a really quick gameplay loop of "bag is full, run back, bag is full, run back, bag is full, run back." But at the same time, it feels really good to explore. Not sure how long that hook will last, but I'm enjoying it about two hours in.
So I've heard. Very curious as to how this mixes up from the first game. So far, so good though.Haha. You think that's the loop now... keep playing. It grows and opens up so much, it's incredible. Always new things, too.
Yup, totally agree. Absolutely amazing game. This is the only Metroidvania I've ever finished. I thought it was a nearly flawless game.
Which one?An excellent game with lots of charm. A certain late-game section will stay long in my memory.
Yep, pretty good summary. It's a fantastic side-scroller, and Image and Form are extremely talented devs.Gameplay loop is super addictive, it's well paced, progression feels great and equipment upgrades have real weight to them and have considerable impact on gameplay and controls, music and visuals are both outstanding... I really think it's a perfect game in all of those aspects.
Diablo is a good comparison, but I've always thought the loop felt similar to the genre in which Image and Form started with - tower defense. I think of each "dive" as a TD round, or a mission in Heist as a TD round, followed by the upgrading break before doing another round. The money-making gets faster as you get more upgrades and vice versa.Dig 2 has the gameplay loop of a dungeon crawler like Diablo or Etrian Odyssey. You can only make a little bit of progress in each outing, but every time you venture out you gather rewards, and the price/benefits of items in the shop are well-tuned. So you keep making these bite-sized forays into the underground that always bring you closer to some new objective or purchase. It's expertly tuned from start to finish.
Ahh, this one...It's that scary as hell chase sequence, where the giant robots are 'asleep' waiting to be triggered if you get too close. There's a fair few memorable moments in the game, but that sequence always stands out as quite distinct to me.
