I'd be interested if the form factor didn't seem awful. That seems real uncomfortable to use.

Strange design but a fantastic idea. If' it's powerful enough then this could be something great.

That button placement is… well it looks awful. I have to assume they tested it and it's not, but Jesus it looks bad.

Looks a bit strange but... I'm kinda interested. There's a lot of steam stuff (that I already own even) that'd be fun to have portably.

I wonder how open it'll be, like if I could go and get xCloud on it as well for example.

Looks very uncomfortable. At least Switch has a good excuse for its shitty, unergonomic design.

That's one ugly piece of tech. But it seems really impressive.

However, that's super expensive. I already have way too many devices that can play video games.

Had no intention of getting a PC to play, but this…this is enticing.

Echoing what others are saying though about it looking a bit weird to hold.

Cheap games on Steam at your fingertips gives this a leg up over any Nintendo handheld.

So they're trying to force the use of the touchpads with those stick/d-pad/button placement huh.

Whoa look at that! Super glad they're integrating sticks and trackpads. Definitely some Steam Controller DNA in there.

Valve announces Steam DeckTM

Reservations available starting July 16; shipping begins in December 2021

July 15, 2021 - Valve announces Steam Deck, the first in a new category of handheld PC gaming devices starting at $399.

Steam Deck is a powerful all-in-one portable PC. With a custom processor developed in cooperation with AMD, Steam Deck is comparable to a gaming laptop with the ability to run the latest AAA games. Your Steam library will be on Deck to play games wherever and whenever you want. Steam Deck is also an open PC, adding the ability to install any software or connect with any hardware.

"We think Steam Deck gives people another way to play the games they love on a high-performance device at a great price," says Valve founder Gabe Newell. "As a gamer, this is a product I've always wanted. And as a game developer, it's the mobile device I've always wanted for our partners."

Steam Deck starts at $399, with increased storage options available for $529 and $649. Reservations open July 16th at 10 AM PDT; shipping is slated to start in December 2021.

buyer beware, none of those current options include a dock which will come later according to Valve and will be sold separately

Spec's seem really 'meh'. it wouldn't be total crap in 5-6 years due to RDNA 2, but it doesn't seem that great of a deal at 400 bucks

Instant game library makes it tempting.

I like the touch pads, but I agree that the stick and button placement seems too high. They didn't get any feedback about that?
