Fantastic thread, subscribed!
People like to shit on SE, but they are always one of the most exciting developer.

I mean look at this list:
-Dragon Quest XI (&Switch port later)
-Shadow of the Tomb Raider
-The World Ends With You Remix
-Just Cause 4
-Life is Strange 2
-Dragon Quest Builders 2
-Kingdom Hearts III
-Left Alive
-Final Fantasy VII Remake
-Final Fantasy XV DLCs
-Luminous Studio's New IP
-The Avengers Project
-Guardians of the Galaxy Project
-People Can Fly FPS
-Ni3R
-Babylon's Fall
-Final Fantasy XIV Expansions
-Dissidia: FF NT content
-Final Fantasy XVI (supposedly)
-Other Switch dedicated projects (new games, remasters, remakes, older IPs revivals)

This list alone can compete with 1st party offerings.

Advice for OP:
-Add a list of all the rumored games at the end
-You forgot Yoko Taro's Nier 3.

Thanks! The 3rd post is actually where I will try to compile a list of all the recent rumors. You can bet that Nier 3 will have its place there, since rumors and speculations are pretty much all we have on it at the moment.

When I made a thread about how Square Enix could've "won" E3 people were legit asking me how and I was like, "Bruh are you serious??" Look at that list, it's nuts.

It's funny. They have the potential to win E3, but they ended up being the worst.
I don't know if it was the worst but it was definitely the most disappointing for people who had high expectations (myself included).
In the end, all SE aimed to do with their presentation was to advertise games that are about to release and tease some small new projects, and their 30 minutes showcase was flawless in that regard. Short, straight to the point and effective.
They are pretty clear with their communication at the moment, their priorities are KH3 and the new TR and I wouldn't expect any news about FFVIIR or the Avengers before the other 2 release.

Looking forward to seeing what the Chrono Trigger director is working on.

Obviously , another mobile game like his usual work. Joke aside , he used to be lead of Division 8 but currently I cant see his name everywhere or in any division
If you guys are talking about Takashi Tokita, he doesn't do much directing these days. He's still a manager of BD8, as far as I know. About 6 weeks ago, it was reported that BD8 was hiring a project assistant for a PS4/Switch ARPG. He's probably involved with that in some capacity.

1- Done!

2- I have something else in mind for the 3rd post. Some sort of misc section for important news/information/speculation that I don't want buried with the rest. I also want to leave some wiggle room since apparently maxing out characters is a real thing. Whew.

3- My understanding is that the Osaka team = BD3 since the latter is credited with the remasters and is also listed as developer for KH3.
2: Cool, no problem. I'd stay away from speculation though, as that's often how misinformation is spread.

3: Sure, I guess I just looked at it the same way as BD2/Luminous.

Thanks for listening to my suggestions.

It's funny. They have the potential to win E3, but they ended up being the worst.
Not even remotely close to being the worst, that "honour" goes to EA. I don't even think Square Enix were the second worst, their show wasn't particularly good but it was still better than Bethesda's.

Man, if there's a company I was able to spy on and get the goods on, that'd always be S-E. I really wonder about XVI, VII-R, Tabata's new IP and whatever else they might be working on.

It's sad considering that it would put it at three years being a no-show and that December is still a ways off, but it'd be nice if VII-R gets some love during TGA/PSX. Doubtful, though, especially considering S-E's silly "only one big Japanese game gets marketing at a time" policy.

You know, at this point a few more months of wait for FFVIIR's next showing really don't make a difference anymore. Let them do a nice re-reveal after KH3 is out, maybe with its own event like KH3 had earlier this year or, well, next E3 for ultimate hype (especially if they reveal a release window for late 2019/early 2020). That way they can let it cook even more before showing it again and we'll see more representative footage.

Yeah, I was precisely thinking about that and how they could always have an event à la XV or KHIII (it made sense for those games, and it really does too for this one). Although I legitimately expect it at E3 2019 at this point with a 2020 tentative release year (which in my mind would be late 2020, so possibly slipping into 2021, like with KHIII).

With VII-R releasing this late into the current gen's lifetime, Tabata's IP cooking with an engine the team is familiar with (2022/2023?) and XVI surely in development for a bit now, S-E's Japan side should have a pretty nice early 2020s and next-gen start.

As with every year, I patiently await FF VIIR news at the remaining conferences.
Part of me thinks FF XVI will get announced and FF VIIR still won't be out yet or have a release date.

In SE's recent fiscal report they were expecting a huge income spike between April 2019 and April 2020, which I assume will either be FFVIIR and/or Avengers.

Was just pondering about all this yesterday, glad there's now a thread to dive into it all!

Really hoping we see more of the Marvel games and FFVII Remake soon. I'd also like confirmation that FFXVI is actually happening, though given the hell FFXV went thru before release I can see them being very coy till they can guarantee a release window

Ohh, I had forgotten about this. I hate that it gives me hope that late 2019/early 2020 is a possibility (at least) for VII-R, lol.

I'm very interested in The Avengers game, we basically just got a CG recruiting ad and no word ever since.

Thanks for the Thread OP.

SE is my favorite 3rd party developers... they still have magic left in them :-)

My bet on FFVII Remake Part 1 is Q1 2020.

This is a really well done thread, OP.

Maybe people will finally stop complaining about Final Fantasy XV having upcoming downloadable content when they realize Square Enix has so many other teams.

Another one that isn't there is Beautiful Game Studios which is subsidiary of SEE
Yes, the Championship Manager studio. I didn't think it would interest a lot of people but maybe I can work on something later on. I wouldn't have much to say about it though, it's basically "Worked on Championship Manager, currently working on Championship Manager" haha.

There's Square Enix Collective as well (also managed by SEE) which I couldn't figure out what to do with. What they do with small indie devs seem really cool but again it's mainly games that people never heard about:

  • Life is Strange 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Adventure-Fans rejoice: Life is Strange 2 is coming to Gamescom 2018 as a world premiere. Not only will the development team share all the details about the highly anticipated sequel to the award winning and critically acclaimed Life is Strange – it will be playable for the first time at the Sqaure Enix booth on the Gamescom show-floor.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – The themes of Shadow of the Tomb Raider have their influence on the appearance of the Square Enix booth as well: the area is set up in the style of an imposing Mayan pyramid with numerous game stations. Visitors can get an even more intense feel for Lara Croft's biggest adventure yet with a demo version of the action adventure.

Great job Ishiro

So, are we expecting any Final Fantasy news before the year ends?
Dku7-cxU4AMsFQa.jpg

I honestly would just be happy with the FFXIII Trilogy remaster and a trailer for the Ardyn DLC, but even then those wouldn't count as NEW FF games. Four months left SE.

What we can expect for FF this year:
- Almost assuredly the new FFXIV expansion announcement at the November Fan Fest
- Maybe a mobile game by SE Montréal
- That's... pretty much it

Next year on the other hand will see FFVIII's 20th anniversary and FFXIII's 10th so the remasters are a lock for 2019 in my opinion. Now was Hashimoto just hinting at a potential announcement in 2018? Maybe, who knows, guy's a troll.

We're not supposed to expect anything VIIR related until KH3 is released (SE made that abundantly clear) but... Come PSX in December, KH3 will probably have gone gold, so maybe we can hope for a re-reveal trailer showcasing the new designs.
