I somewhat don't care about what Nancy Pelosi et al say because the people doing this aren't Democrats. There's no incentive for the DSA to listen to her talk about civility. She's thinking about swing voters who harken back to the good old days when discord wasn't in all their faces and that's understandable but protesters aren't obligated to listen to this. If people want to go agit and engage in civil disobedience, they're going to. If people are clutching the pearls and writing editorials about this, then they're onto something.
But for those of you so concerned about the loss of civility, you should keep in mind that people who are prepared to do this don't think that their voices will be represented or heard in the current democratic system. If the ballot box does not deliver what they want, they seek other methods, like chants and in-your-face. It isn't like someone laid a hand on these people, they were simply confronted for what they were doing in the public sphere. The targets of these protests didn't like it, and they were simply allowed to go home. Nothing untoward happened, and acting like it did is a mistake.
Civil disobedience is also part of the American tradition, though it might make Americans uncomfortable. I am sorry that the Democratic Party is missing out of the importance of this, especially when they try to cater to voters who are well served by moves like this and have had to rely on moves like this to even get their attention in the first place. Maybe Nancy Pelosi and Charles Schumer should consider what gay activists had to do as they were marching in pride parades earlier this month, for example.
tldr: Stop telling people who feel unheard and mistreated to be "nice", and no one did anything wrong so deal with it.
