Imagine a SOCOM campaign that had open-linear levels like Uncharted 4 or Lost Legacy. Vehicle gameplay, stealth missions, some heavy firefight gun action. A meaningful cinematic AAA story like the other sony games.

And then a classic online experience, 8v8, 16v16, Demolition, Suppression, Extraction, Escort, Breach.

I'm fine with a one or two throwbacks/remakes but they'd get much more interest out of me by making new IP and telling new stories.

I would play new SOCOM, Dark Cloud or Siren games.

Not sure if anyone else will. Except maybe SOCOM, which would probably have a BR mode or something these days.

SOCOM has always been viable and especially now with the popularity of tactical shooters and military themed battle royale stuff.

they won't make it though, SOCOM is dead, it is time to move on and forget about it. The last time SOCOM was good was now almost 20 years ago.

The difference between the way fans talk about SOCOM and the higher ups at Sony do tells me it will never happen. They don't understand the game and they think it's trash and a waste of time.

Gah, I'd love to see brand new big-budget revivals of 6th gen games since forgotten:
-Dark Cloud
-Metal Arms
-Okami
-SMT
-Timesplitters
-Zone of the Enders
-Psi-Ops
-Rush 2049 yes i know
-Summoner

Mmm... I guess they could revive those old IPs like reasonably budgeted remakes or new entries, like they did with MediEvil. But I don't think pouring a massive budget into those games would be a sound investment tbh.

I wish.

Jak and Daxter have lots of potential, Sly needs a sequel after that cliffhanger, Socom left a huge void in gaming, Siren needs a reboot, Dark Cloud could be really awesome if they plaay their cards right.

Heck I would love if they brought most of their rpgs from the ps1 era like Wild Arms and Arc the Lad along with some of their other gamess like Twisted Metal and Syphon Filter.

While they are at it, give me Resistance 4, Gravity Rush 3 and Tokyo Jungle 2.

Sony usually has very little interest with revisiting its ip, it moves to the new fashion that works with each generation. It's not going to happen.

People acting like a new Jak game wouldn't sell, the fuck?? Sony is shit at leveraging legacy IP, it's no secret.

I'm very excited for all those games, but there seems not enough reason to keep the PS2 series I mentioned on the shelf in the PS5 era. I want to look forward to Horizon 2, Spider-Man 2, Days Gone 2 AND Jak 4, SOCOM PS5, Dark Cloud 3, etc.

But tons of other PlayStation fans do. I would understand if people in the discussion would say something like "Whats Jak?" but the series has sold 15+ million. There is a big audience, and I do believe that the current Sony has the talent and resources to make the audience even bigger.

Sure, they have done a standout job with their exclusives this gen and really made a name for themselves in a way they were unable to in their attempt during the PS3 era where their first party became a major priority, but to have IPs as the one I mentioned just collecting dust.... well, I just can't say they are properly managing their portfolio. Especially with the position they are in with the success they have had this gen.

Well I'm not saying don't revisit them, just don't go over board with the nostalgia card. There's no need.

I still am waiting for a Jak X sequel or a Jak IV and I want a follow up to Sly Thieves in Time.

Seriously, I lament the lack of 3D-Platformer-Adventure games. They ceased to exist.

I am not sure people buy new consoles to play old games. People buy new consoles to play new games. I think backwards compatibility is a niche or nice to have requirement. I mean, I'd love to see it, but if its not there I ain't bothered.
Obviously this is true, I'm just saying you probably have a higher chance of this happening than getting new games from these franchises.

I doubt this qualifies as pure nostalgia. These are valuable IPs they own and could be modernized. If you bring back a series to play exactly as they did and feel like a game of that era, then THAT is nostalgia. And for small projects I guess that is fine, but most these games I mentioned have potential to be very big.

Like Jak 4 getting current game systems and mechanics with a full AAA budget would be high caliber PS5 game.

Sony's "PS2 renaissance" on PS5 should really just be PS2 BC; both discs and emulated downloads (via PS Classics/Game Archives). Same for PS1 really. And if they wanted to go nuts offer BC with digital PSP and Vita games.

Thats no answer to actually making their valuable shelved IPs relevant. People want new games in those franchises

The developers of those games have all grown beyond them. I'd rather have new IP's than revive three-generation-old franchises that will be all but unrecognizable to today's children.

I'm all for Socom coming back though.

Games from those franchises would be more appealing to me than most of what they put out now so sure. I feel like I'd probably get the most out of a PS1 renaissance to be honest. Atlus and Konami could do PS2 renaissances.

I miss SOCOM. Played the shit out of SOCOM 2 when I was a teenager and to a lesser extrent 3 and combined assault. Was a pretty high ranked captain in SOCOM 2. Probably the only multiplayer game I've ever felt I was good at lol

Currently going through Dark Cloud after so many years and love it to bits. I felt it would've aged worse than I thought but I'm having a blast. It's far from perfect but man, we're way overdue for a sequel.

It would sure be nice to get a bunch of those back. It would have to be thru third parties tho considering almost all Sony's first parties all went the super serious route

Siren? Not happening. "Too Japanese" is Sony's marketing excuse. If it's realistic it has to take place somewhere else that isn't Japan.

Dark Cloud falls in that same category because the art style is too Japanese.

Jak tried to be revived. Syphon Filter is up to Bend. Socom-ish game (New IP) can happen if Sony continues to work with IllFonic and even acquire them.

But rather Wild Arms reboot than Dark Cloud. And new IPs in the RPG genre.

Sony can't even get siren 2 on Ps2 classic, their own damn game that was never released in NA.

If they find a way to revitalize the IP like they did with God of War sure, but just making PS2 games on PS5 is a terrible idea. Rather they make new IP

Why not let the current and future teams make something new that they want to make, and not some project they don't have ownership of that's stuck in the 2000s?

Tbh most of their old IPs outside of Sly and Wild Arms lack potential to become breakout successes, but nonetheless it is crucial for SIE to invest in games that are thematically and artistically different from their current slate.

It's not a surprise that the likes of Concrete Genie and Dreams are essentially DOA from their inception because Sony has been laser-focused at catering to the realism-leaning audience. I'm not saying xbox did any better with the broader demograph, but Sony needs to reinforce the momentum started by Fortnite, Crash and Overcooked if they have any intention of matching the explosive success of PS2.

lol. You say this after Ghost of Tsushima? If anything Siren is one of the games that could actually get revived next gen.

Concrete Genie was the return of a beloved PS1/PS2-era IP?

I mean, don't get me wrong, the game deserves more sales, but that's not really relevant to the topic here, is it?
Lot of people in this thread advocating making fresh new IPs instead that aren't cinematic story driven games. Well they did, and it bombed. And Dreams isn't doing too hot either. I dunno why people expect them to back to PS1/2 era and dig out old IPs that are in similar vein to these game. Maybe if the developers themselves want to work on them and convince Sony like Cory Barlog did.
