There is truly no way the movie can succeed. It has everything working against it. It's funny to me that Zemeckis finally figured out he can fight the shiny dead plastic look of his motion capture movies by making them be toys.

Last film of his I enjoyed was Beowulf -mostly due to Silvestri's score- and even then, I remember the audience in the theater just not being into that film AT ALL, heh.

I totally agree with this post. I saw the doc and its really good. Then I saw the trailer for this movie and i felt like it was a parody. Like they are making fun of the guy.

Yep, typical Hollywood adaptation of a genuinely compelling and heartwarming story of the human spirit making it as banal and stupid as possible. 0 interest.
I enjoyed the first trailer. Then I saw more and more media and it became heavily apparent that they are in no way giving this story the thought that it requires. It looks like a completely corny feel-good drama instead of a story of incredibly rehabilitation in the face of a terrible crime.

I'm amazed this doesn't get more press. The thing cost upwards of $200M with marketing and it didn't even clear $10M domestic.
Her main character is disabled but isn't she also playing a fantasy doll version of that character who isn't disabled?
Hollywood taking a story and not actually including the interesting aspects of said story/events is so typical. Plus the added thick layer of stale schmaltz, bleh.
I saw the commercial on TV, and was offended they used the "censored" version.

I think that's a reach about Steve Carell, He's an accomplished actor and I can see why he could bring the earnest innocence that they want from the tone. That said, the movie looks shit and I am concerned with the attention it will bring to a guy who is supposedly uncomfortable with it.
Box office pro has it at $4M so that's either a typo or act of god.
Yeah Marwencol is incredibly powerful. Maybe there's a way to tell its story through a dramatic film, but it seemed unnecessary. At least some people will become aware of and seek out the documentary.
From Peter Jackson, comes a film that is not based on Tolkien.

Allied was good and Flight was great. I was saying this the other day but there hasn't been anything different in the way Zemeckis makes movies. I think the audience's tastes in movies has changed.
Knowing some of the throughlines in the work Zemeckis directs you'd half expect the real life version of Carrell's character to be a black dude

It's the 2000s comedy that has and will continue to age the best. Well, that and Step Brothers.
I liked Flight but yeah, I don't think I have seen anything of his since Beowulf until I saw Flight.
