No word on when this drops on consoles? Played an hour last night thinking the new content would be there, but no update available. I still played that hour though, because I'm a god damned sucker.

The Watcher is really fun. I'm bad at the game, so it's been rough, but I think I'm finally going to get my first win with her when I resume my run tonight. I've got a neat Mantra + Summon Blade deck going on right now that I think can take on Deca/Donu. No chance I'm clearing the corrupted heart though. I (stupidly) got my hopes up that Runic Pyramid would trigger Establishment, and now I keep having trouble digging past my defends to find my Expunger, which is going to spell doom for me on Act IV.

Did this hit the Game Pass PC version? I lost all my progress there, but this patch seems like a good reason to jump back in.

The new class is super interesting in how many new mechanics and keywords there are. The risk reward of the various stances does require some knowledge of enemy patterns to get the most out of it though, so I would recommend it for players who are more familiar with the game.

It's also half price at $12.50

Worth it? Would most likely stream from steam to my phone for breaks at work.

Playing this game made me appreciate turn based card battle game. Any other recommendation for this kind of game yet with a straightforward progression system as in a story mode or adventure mode.

Maybe SteamWorld Quest? It's a relatively straightforward RPG with a card-based battle system. It's not as deep as STS but it's more of a traditional game with a story and cutscenes.

There's also Hearthstone's Dungeon Run mode which is similar to STS in that you're building your deck each run and has multiple classes to chose from. Minimal story though.

Love this on GP, but I put it down waiting for the iOS version. Hopefully this patch means it's coming soon!

Started this on the Switch last week and am about 30hrs deep. Really great game, can't stop doing runs. When you hit that right set of cards and rituals the degree in which you can mount damage is crazy lol. Silent + poison is like crack to me.

I hope the Watcher makes the final boss beatable because I had no luck with the current ones.
If anything it'll be harder for you probably.
You just need to think your card picking probably.
Base difficulty is very veeeery easy to beat probably 100% of the time when you begin to pick good cards (or pick nothing) for the right situation.

Act 1 = a bit of good damage, some block later, or useful powers, and of course some drawing.
Act 2 : weak inducing cards, energy, Area of Effect plus some scaling (strength, poison, focus and so on...), more block and drawing if not enough in the ratio.
Act 3 : Tighter deck, trimming bad cards, getting your scaling and all at the best you can.

You really can't lose after you have a better understanding of what to pick.

Totally opposite of what you are asking, but check Dicey Dungeons. You use Dice and Cards to fight enemies. It has shorter sessions (like 40 min). Does not have any kind of story, you only unlock characters, and I could say is easier than Slay the Spire, but the game is fun, specially when you unlock the third character.

I play Slay the Spire and Dicey Dungeons ona regular basis. I love both games.

Watcher is a neat class. Been playing it on beta for a while. The feel though is weird. It plays like a fan mod character that doesn't really mesh with the other three.

Lots of strats though. Mantra is probably the most straightforward build:. Build up mantra and lay on the dps. Use card selection and retain to plan your turns accordingly.

The new relics are nice. Its donkey getting the anchor then turn 2 block and turn 3 relics. Remove defensive cards and go bog wild on offense.

Dailies or custom games where you throw in watcher cards into the other classes makes for fun broken times.

By the way, anyone who likes this game should check out Dicey Dungeons. Still has deck building but it uses dice rolls to determine moves. It's been my vice, but I'll be headed back to the Spire for this patch.

I'm not really a pro at the game (only Ascension 7 at the moment), but I can offer some advice. If you wish to beat the secret boss, you must play your entire run WITH the secret boss in mind.

If you've lost to the boss multiple times, you know that it does massive amounts of damage and has a LOT of health. So you either need a build that survives the attacks, or one that can kill the boss before the attacks ramp up.

The easiest one is the Silent poison build. Lots of poison (bouncing flask, noxious fumes) paired with a couple of upgraded catalyst cards will allow you to stack poison on the boss like nobody's business. If you manage to get a few blur cards, you can also get some sweet perma block going.

If you play Defect, you can survive the boss with lots of frost orbs (Glacier is fantastic) paired with some focus raising cards (Defragment, Consume etc), and whittle the health down eventually.

With Ironclad, you can pair strength gaining cards (Demon Form, Spot Weakness etc.) with Limit Break to get double digit strength, and then abuse that with cards like Heavy Blade, that scale very strongly with Strength.

There are many more strats with all these classes to beat the boss, but these basic strats are reliable and work well.

As a general rule, a deck with lots of cards is better than a deck with very few cards. This is because
1) removing cards usually costs money in shop better spent elsewhere, and
2) the secret boss adds a bunch of negative-effect cards to your deck. A big deck will minimize the effects of those cards, while a thin deck will cycle them again and again, destroying your combo. Generally, a deck around 30 cards is good to take on the boss.

Best of luck with your runs. I haven't tried the new character yet, but super excited to start. :D

I'm... reasonably good at this game? (hit ascension 15 back when it was the most you could do, haven't gotten around to trying for 20)

honestly, the biggest tip I can give for doing well at this game is... a very weird one, and involves me flogging a youtube channel. however, jorbs is arguably the best slay-the-spire-r in the world, and he puts out a ton of content that's pretty watchable. in particular, he's put out some videos about what cards to pick, when to pick them, how to judge if a card is "good" based on the situation you're in and what your deck is like, etc. he additionally has some "overexplained" runs for each class (not watcher yet, I believe) that go into borderline absurd detail about what he's doing and why.

if you're struggling with the game or just want to learn more about how to think about the decision-making process you can use to win at higher levels, he's probably the best possible resource.

My bad, I couldn't finish my message properly to add that part and also assumed a bit too fast probably.

Against the heart and I'd argue before too, you almost don't need straightforward attack anymore and mostly only scaling, draw and block.you need to kill and block fast.
Of course your relics play a big role and having pyramid for example will change things a lot so you might need exhaust/discard/energy... to be sure you have space for the next cards.

The best cards for defense are the ines reducing the strength or the boss, can make some turns ridiculously easy to block and prepare.

Having quickly access to key cards to have your setup ready early is key.
Demon form, footwork, well laid plans, echo form and so on. So, you need ways to get to it fast and/or to have a good enough deck to resist and do some damage/useful turns early on (removing artefacts to be able to weak/vulnerable for example.

When I read it again I feel like it applies to many battles really ha ha. But if your playing on the lowest difficulty my best advice would for you to use act 3 (and act 2 if you feel very strong already for most boss) to basically prepare for the heart specifically without caring about anything else.

Go for tons of elites and get as many relics as you can, get tons of money and check shops here and there and events to remove strikes and other useless card you might have, buy powerful relics and some specific cards you'd be missing to be much stronger/resilient.

If you can get snecko eye try to get more energy, draw and high cost cards. It can often make you win stupidly easily.
Most energy relics are usually very useful.

That card was super overpowered. Making it cost 1 energy was the right call.

I can't wait to play Dicey Dungeons when it comes to Switch this year.

So I bought this for the PS4 last week as it was on sale. The gameplay is very addictive but I have to say I'm not having much luck. I've made it to the act 3 boss once and most other times I die at the act 2 boss or very early in act 3. I understand the concept of building a deck but not having any sort of control over what cards or relics show up doesn't make it easy. Enemies doing 50 damage in one attack and not having any block cards shuffle into the deck is frustrating.

Love the concept but I think the RNG is probably going to ruin it for me much the same way as it does for games like Darkest Dungeon, Isaac, Rogue Legacy, etc. I don't think I have the time or patience to get the most out of it which sucks.

I'm currently playing "Night of the Full Moon" on mobile and it is also a card game with incredible graphics and enemies have voice acting. It has a ton of charm. The gameplay is similar to StS, but.... Different.

You "roll" different pathways and can carry equipment into battle. You can take on "quests" and solve mysteries depending on which path you take. Combat isn't energy based but there are special cards called "actions" that you can only use a limited amount of. You can play cards as long as you draw them tho.

Give it a try (it is free) and buy the dlc if you like it. I haven't bought it yet but I heard he dlc is substantial.

The aesthetic for this game is incredible. It is so polished and charming. Every pathway is a page in a book (fairytale).

The more you play the more the strategies start to become clear, and the more you begin to understand how to create a balanced and flexible deck.

But there is always some luck involved. Nature of the beast.

I've been playing a month or so and can pretty consistently (but not always!) make it well into Act III. I've beaten the Act III boss once with each of the four characters.

Keep in mind you also unlock new relics and cards as you go, which broadens your options for deck comp.

Finally picked this up today since it's on sale and turns out my apprehension about it being a card game didn't matter, played a lot already. I think I had a pretty lucky combo since i beat act 3 on my second run with Ironclad. Had a lot of guard + body slam.

This game is awesome. I saw it on some GotY lists and decided to try it on Game Pass for PC. I got halfway into Act 3 and died but it was so much damn fun. I'm going to play it again soon.

I was really enjoying this game, that is until I reached the final busy and quit because of how cheap it felt. Heck, I think the fight before the final boss is the worst part of it. Maybe this patch might encourage me to return.
