I've started rounding up the (still) 360 exclusive Cave shmups starting with the Mushihimesama Futari LE:

Unfortunately the 1.01 DLC code doesn't work since I wasn't able to get it before the 360 store shut down (trying to redeem it simply gives an "invalid code" error) so guess my only option to get it will be modding my system in the future. But the good news is that I was able to purchase the Black Label DLC fortunately when the store was active. Have only played a few rounds so far but I am loving it, and as usual, the amount of options and polish that M2 put into this are second to none.

Edit: I got the 1.01 DLC code to work!!!! Earlier I had been trying to redeem it before I played the game. So I tried one more time and it went through, apparently it required save data from the game in order to activate. One more 360 store victory and one week after the shutdown, no less! Whooooo!!

Is it challenging to order Daioujou or Esprade from the japanese eshop if i'm not japanese? I would like them on my switch but not really keen on messing around with physical imports.

I ordered the physical version from Amazon Japan and, honestly, had no issue whatsoever. Given that there's no region lock, I think it's actually easier to go the physical way, as you don't need to create an account specifically for purchasing JP only games.

I mostly play switch on the go and don't like juggling cartridges. (i'm forgetful and lose stuff)

It's pretty easy. You just need a Japanese eshop account which is easy to create from your Switch, then get some currency codes from Play Asia.

This should really get ported to modern platforms. It can be emulated pretty easily, but still, it's a shame it's not widely available

Thanks! I've seen a few of your clears popping up on my YT feed, you're a beast.

Thanks, man :D That means a lot.

You make it look so easy here. Nice work.

Thank you! I never did manage to get a 1-all of white label. It seems a lot harder to me.

USG, the new game from the dev who made the excellent Flesh is out now!

Amazon US have Esp Ra De for like 51$. Ordered it like a year ago and got no problem. Dodonpachi is expensive there but ordering from play asia is not that complicated. I ship to my PO box and use 17Track to follow package. Just can take some time to receive it.

I'm having good fun with Cygni. Looks incredible on my QD-OLED monitor. Tons of action and the boss designs are very cool so far. Controls are a bit overwrought at first, but I can get used to it. I'm playing on PC, but I might grab a PS5 copy for my physical collection.

Good guy pollapee.
After playing some more USG today and scratching my head, still not scoring as well as that first sloppy clear, this is great news!

"Hi, I am the developer of this game. after I watched the gameplay videos. I feel like it is too easy for veteran players. So, I am working on adding a new mode with increasing difficulty. It will have its leaderboard separate from the main campaign.

Also, the Scoring system has a small little bug because I put - instead of +. and it makes the score scale down the higher of player's level. It should be fixed in tomorrow's patch.

I will put how the score is calculated after the new patch is up.

Thank you for playing the game."

Not at all. Just make a japanese Nintendo account, or create one in whatever region and then change region to Japan. Then go to Amazon Japan, set it in English (most of it is translated then) choose a McDonalds address to put as your own, add credit card, profit. It might take a couple hours the first time to receive the code (will show as "pending" in your Amazon orders). You have no idea how much money I've saved ditching Play-Asia and such to get codes, I grabbed Mario Wonder at launch for 33 Euros.

Edit: sorry didn't mean to split my replies

Haven't gotten to play it much yet so not a lot to say about gameplay yet, but initial impression of SaiDaiOuJou is that it's definitely a departure art wise from DDP DOJ in terms of its much brighter, anime intensive presentation vs DOJ's gritty, darker, semi-apocalyptic visual design.

Nice pickup, definitely one of the more rare ones! SDOJ took a little bit of time to grow on me, it is pretty difficult, but once you learn it, quite rewarding. Be sure to turn off the voices when you play Xbox mode if you value your ears 🤣

Oof, yeah the constant anime chatter is….something, ha. Thanks for the heads up, will definitely be turning that off.

Might be getting Mushi Mushi Pork/Pink Sweets next after my wallet recovers, but between this, Futari and some games I managed to get before the 360 store shutdown, I've got a lot to keep me busy.

If you do, make sure you give Pink Sweets arrange a shot. Wayyyyy better than normal Pink Sweets, one of my favorite Cave arranges.

Man, SaiDaiOuJou is tough, just getting through stage 1 without dying can be really challenging. Definitely enjoying it though, one thing I like is how much more flexible the chain hit counter is with how long you can keep it going compared to other games in the series.

I bought a Flip Grip for my Switch a while back, but found using the joy cons with it a real pain. I decided to order the MOBApad M6 HDs and they are absolutely incredible. Just for general use, the D Pad is one of the best I've ever used, but because they are also wireless (unlike say the Hori Split Pad), they work perfectly with the Flip Grip. I am in portable Tate heaven.

Definitely interested, do you have pics? I'm sick of using the joycons with my Flip Grip edit: 100€?! GTFO 😂 also I think they are too big for my hands (own both versions of the split pad) and the Dpad is positioned too far right and would prolly be uncomfortable :(

They were £51 delivered from AliExpress. Honestly couldn't be happier with them, they feel so premium and the Tate implications are magic. Couple of pics if I can figure this out…

Thanks! Well 50£ is more like it! I assume you have big hands, but the "distant" dpad doesn't seem super distant in reality nor as uncomfortable as I thought…. Interest rising again! Thanks a lot for the pics!

Steam page is up for Rainchaser. It's in early development so don't expect it any time soon, but the early demo the dev posted on the shmup junkie discord was effing amazing! Stick it on your wishlist.

Also, this is alright. Tiny Pixels Vol. 1 - Ninpo Blast. I find it quite addictive to play for score and it's nice and relaxing.
It used to waste 2 hours of your life grinding for upgrades before it was worth you playing for score, but they patched it so that you earn a lot more cogs so that time should hopefully be cut in half at least.

Many thanks for the suggestions, wasn't aware of Rainchaser and it looks pretty great. What other shmups are meant to be coming in the near future?
  • Earthion is supposed to release by end of 2024
  • Aleste Branch has been delayed several times, so who knows
  • The Castle of Shikigami III PC port crowdfunding has achieved its goal
  • Guess we might get an M2 Shottriggers announcement by the end of the year?

Edit: there's also Tatsujin Extreme which was announced as a PS5 exclusive to be released in 2024, but I don't know about that bc they've been silent about it for a long time:

Goddamn it looks incredible, that is basically how I wish the series had always looked like but never thought they'd have the budget for it… I guess Unlimited 3 must have done well for them!

Think we will get Shmup fest on steam again this year? Last year it happened on the last week of September. I have a full wishlist of shmups I want to pick up lol.

Judging by steamdb schedule, I don't think so

steamdb.info

A list of all Steam sale events. When is the next Steam Sale? Steam runs multiple big sale events every year.

Maybe they're postponing it to rename it as The Vampire Survivors clones sale.
