Fuck Bezos
And Bezos doesn't own Lord of the RingsThat quote about creating a mythology for England is always misquoted. Tolkien in the very next sentence, dismissed the idea as "absurd".
Regarding Beren and Luthien, they're First Age characters and Amazon haven't the rights to such material according to Tom Shippey who was hired for the project before leaving.
It may be linked to the following in which we see the moral decline (further) of Numenor under the rule of Ar-pharazon, and behind him Sauron. If it's comfy sex with magical condoms and a lot of hand holding, why not.
If they go for strange consent and "rape made me stronger".................
The scope is there to depict the very worst of colonialism; mass murder, slavery, rape and pillage.Thereafter the fire and smoke went up without ceasing; for the power of Sauron daily increased, and in that temple, with spilling of blood and torment and great wickedness, men made sacrifice to Melkor that he should release them from Death. And most often from among the Faithful they chose their victims; yet never openly on the charge that they would not worship Melkor, the Giver of Freedom, rather was cause sought against them that they hated the King and were his rebels, or that they plotted against their kin, devising lies and poisons. These charges were for the most part false; yet those were bitter days, and hate brings forth hate.
But for all this Death did not depart from the land, rather it came sooner and more often, and in many dreadful guises. For whereas aforetime men had grown slowly old, and had laid them down in the end to sleep, when they were weary at last of the world, now madness and sickness assailed them; and yet they were afraid to die and go out into the dark, the realm of the lord that they had taken; and they cursed themselves in their agony. And men took weapons in those days and slew one another for little cause; for they were become quick to anger, and Sauron, or those whom he had bound to himself, went about the land setting man against man, so that the people murmured against the King and the lords, or against any that had aught that they had not; and the men of power took cruel revenge.
Nonetheless for long it seemed to the NĂşmenĂłreans that they prospered, and if they were not increased in happiness, yet they grew more strong, and their rich men ever richer. For with the aid and counsel of Sauron they multiplied then: possessions, and they devised engines, and they built ever greater ships. And they sailed now with power and armoury to Middle-earth, and they came no longer as bringers of gifts, nor even as rulers, but as fierce men of war. And they hunted the men of Middle-earth and took their goods and enslaved them, and many they slew cruelly upon their altars. For they built in their fortresses temples and great tombs in those days; and men feared them, and the memory of the kindly kings of the ancient days faded from the world and was darkened by many a tale of dread.
Thus Ar-PharazĂ´n, King of the Land of the Star, grew to the mightiest tyrant that had yet been in the world since the reign of Morgoth, though in truth Sauron ruled all from behind the throne. But the years passed, and the King felt the shadow of death approach, as his days lengthened; and he was filled with fear and wrath. Now came the hour that Sauron had prepared and long had awaited. And Sauron spoke to the King, saying that his strength was now so great that he might think to have his will in all things, and be subject to no command or ban.
Yeah, agreed.I think it still fits if it's just about loving relationships or bathing or whatever, but somehow I can't really imagine middle earth filled with sexual violence or brothels.
If there isn't an Ent going to town on someone with a big log I feel the entire project is pointless.
Oh you bet your ass those elves going to be FUCKIN.
Amazon didn't spend all this money to have a NON FUCKIN prestige tv.
I first read LoTR aged 11, and the films while violent were in line with being suitable for all fans of the books. I don't really like "sexing up" source material which has such a broad demographic, when if you wanted to make a sexy fantasy show, you could just adapt something else.My view is that the Lord of the Rings trilogy is largely seen as something you can watch with the whole family; I watched the movies as a preteen and then a teenager myself, and watching the trilogy is something my family does almost every year. I'm not a fan of this series going up to an R level of content either through sex or violence.
Therein lies the problem. This isn't the sunshine and roses fantasy of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit books. This is the more gritty and brutal fantasy of the Second Age of Arda, see that passage above from the AkallabĂŞth, or Celebrimbor's death at the hands of Sauron, or the marital issues depicted in The Mariner's Wife for examples. My view is that the Lord of the Rings trilogy is largely seen as something you can watch with the whole family; I watched the movies as a preteen and then a teenager myself, and watching the trilogy is something my family does almost every year. Only if it is an ongoing joke. The first season it's just them talking about bangingIf there isn't an Ent going to town on someone with a big log I feel the entire project is pointless.
Better to build up the tension over the 5 seasons with the Ents looking for the Entwives. They finally find each other in the final season, get banging, but then Sauron wipes them out and the Ents lament their loss.Only if it is an ongoing joke. The first season it's just them talking about banging
The 2nd season is them banging
The 3rd season is them talking about seeing each other again
Gotta breed some orcs with goblin men for those Uruk Hai
I guess I always viewed Tolkien as more family friendly fantasy because of the hobbit and being a children's story.
Plus we've had this book released recently:
that is 100% not family friendly at all.
Incest, nudity, graphic descriptions of death and mutilation.
🤔
There is. Melkor and Sauron been lovers is a common one. Melkor did "seduce" Sauron into his service after all.Why tho?
I mean, I could be terribly (oh my god, so terribly) wrong on this, but who thinks of LOTR and then says to himself: You know what this could need? Some old fashioned fucking!
I'm afraid to ask, but this there a big fanfic community for LOTR?
Please dear god let the answer be no!
