Kinda sad they couldn't get Gauntlet IV on the system (WB-licensing). It was M2's first project, and went well above the scope of the original game. Has a tremendous soundtrack as well, one of the finest on the 16-bit powerhouse.

I knows it probably impossible because of rights issues, but goddamn I wish the Jurassic Park games were part of either mini's collection. Those were my bread and butter growing up.

Yeah, wish it was included too. The game receives some contemporary criticism these days, but regardless, it was a huge deal in 1993. Like Aladdin one of the emblematic titles that marked the height of the platform in terms of popularity and quality.

As cash grabs go, this is probably a good decision. Limit the production, make it available only through one medium and you'll get people to pay 100 bucks plus shipping and stumbling over themselves to preorder it, as opposed to the first one which just languished. It's like the Nintendo mini playbook but even more limited. And I bet most people that buy this will take it out once or twice, if that.

This makes sense. I feel like the limit + shipping + omission of games here in the US (looking at the WD titles) just shows that it's for people like me that are gonna pick it up due in large part to the number of games/quality of the titles that are there, but I still feel like they could do better. Limited release plus the selection is potentially gonna make this release a scalper fight, but Sega doesn't need to care about the aftermarket. Which is fine, but I don't feel like it's a decision that was made with regards anything at all but the bottomest of the bottom lines. It's better than the PS Mini by light years, but I also try not to include that product as a measure, personally.

This is the internet—people need to manage their expectations when it comes to interactions and not be so sensitive. We're adults talking about toys.

It's pretty much "keep your opinion to yourself" gatekeeping, and that's not necessary. Everyone has the right to their respectful, informed opinion. "You disagree with my opinion (without being quoted at all), therefore I will make your opinion look worse and claim you don't know what you're talking about" doesn't achieve anything except making the community less approachable.

The poster you're quoting has been here just as long as you have, so I don't know what a profile pic has to do with it. And I didn't see them after a quick search a few pages back making fun of anyone. Unless I am missing something (and I very well could be), it's THIS post that's making fun of people on an enthusiast forum for spending money, not the person you're quoting.

Is Amazon US (via amazon japan) getting the accessories? Though I don't necessarily want to pay 20 bucks shipping for a case...

All the best games are only on the Japanese version. Smart Sega.
I would agree if you were talking about the genesis mini 1 but this time the US mini 2 is quite surprising.

Ok, Lunar and a few others didn't make it.

Nonetheless, Sega kept Crusader of centy...and (i see you like RPGs/T-RPGs...) there is also warsong/langrisser (not on the JP mini), Shining Force 2 (not on the JP mini, it was on the Asian mini 1, not jp), Herzog Zwei (Techno Soft, not on the jp mini), Hellfire (Toaplan, not on the jp mini)... It lost a bunch of very japanese stuffs (Tsubasa, Nadia) but for once the western mini has very valuable semi exclusives 👌🏽

The irony that those in Japan had the opportunity to order the English/NA version before Canada did is not lost on me.

It's a very solid lineup but without the WD or Konami/Hudson CD games I think it's a pass for me. I considered grabbing one for inevitable hack but I've also come to realize I like perfectly setting up these minis and then basically never playing them anyway.

Hopefully some of the better stuff makes it's way to NSO, like with the first mini.

Not that we'll ever know but it would be fun to find out how many of those units were bought up by people outside japan (like me). I'd assume since amazon us isn't sold out still they will shift some units from that allocation back to the amazon jp genesis listing.

For sure.

The extra irony comes from the fact that they later revised that listing to exclude Canada, so unless they change it back to how it was when it was first listed, even if they do allocate more stock people like me in Canada still wouldn't be able to order it and have it shipped to them.

They're really going out of their way to make sure this doesn't get a release in Canada, or at least that's how it feels to me right now.

So what's the deal with these new previously-unreleased games. Is this a Star Fox 2 situation where they were finished and never manufactured? Were they finished for this purpose? Is it worth it to buy this machine for them?

It still feels weird that they're not putting Mortal Kombat on this thing. Literally everyone I knew that went Genesis over SNES did so because of MK1. When I think of the most iconic Sega Genesis game, I think ABACABB.

  • Devi to Pii - A game that was made at the time, but never released. Was created by Takashi Iizuka in 1993 before he worked on Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and now lead of Sonic Team.
  • Fantasy Zone - Was developed as a fan port by the same guy who did the port of Darius to the Genesis Mini 1. M2 helped finish it up.
  • Vs. Puyo Puyo Sun - New development for this specifically, as one of the devs at M2 did the Saturn port back in the day.
  • Star Mobile - Mostly complete back in the day but never finished. M2 finished it up here.
  • Super Locomotive - M2 Hobbyist porting this arcade game on SEGA System 1 to the Mega Drive. Similar hardware.
  • Spatter - M2 Hobbyist porting this arcade game on SEGA System 1 to the Mega Drive. Similar hardware.
  • Space Harrier II / Space Harrier - Effectively rebuilds of both games using some unknown new feature to make sprite scaling and ground much better. Dubbed "SEGA Mark V".
Additionally:

  • Hellfire: Sega's trailer discusses unspecified "new features and options for the Genesis."
  • OutRun: The four in-game radio stations will now include "new [music] tracks not featured in the original."
  • Phantasy Star II: The classic RPG now features "adjustable movement speed and a new easy mode."
  • Truxton: Comes with a new option to play background music "at its original arcade speed."

Neat. The ports don't interest me as much as the new games. I'd hold off to see if they're worthwhile but uh, I dunno how getting ahold of one of these later is gonna be.

Did they explain how the new sprite scaling in Space Harrier is done? I wonder if they just enhanced the emulator or if they found a software solution that would work on original hardware (which would be crazy)

The wording was a little confusing in the trailer but I think they're describing features that make the Genesis ports different to the arcade originals, not new features added for the Mini versions.

Not gonna lie, the song from Ninja Warriors in Taiko no Tatsujin (and also used in the Genesis Mini 2 Games Trailer) has me super hyped to try the game.

Yeah for OutRun in particular, I'm pretty sure they're referring to the exclusive tracks that were always in Genesis OutRun.

At this point I made my peace with having Battle Mania 2 and Eliminate Down repros (I don'T have them yet but if no one will rerelease them I'm not paying these absurd prices)

As much as I hate Sega's handling of this on the distribution front, it seems like they tried to get the best game libraries they could but were blocked by other companies in some cases.

Again I regret not jumping at it while I da the chance. What are the chances the american version will be restocked at Amazon.jp? I went ahead and preordered the japanese version but I dislike the color scheme and have no interest in playing in japanese

Even if they get more it seems they fixed it so that new orders can't be shipped to Canada. I kept checking the website the morning they went live for re-stocks (after hearing that Amazon Japan was shipping the US version to Canada), and saw a couple pop-up's happen with stock. Despite this, they wouldn't ship it to me in Canada.

So unless you pre-ordered right when they first started and had Canada available in the Countries eligible for shipment, it seems we're out of luck.

Honestly, while the WD trio couldn't be worked out, I think the bigger loss was no Konami deal. Getting Snatcher in english rereleased would've been HUGE and probably drawn more attention to the Gen2 than any other game. Plus Hudson's stuff (Dungeon Explorer, Lords of Thunder, Mega Bomberman) and more Konami stuff that skipped Gen1 (Sparkster, RKA, Sunset Riders, etc) could've been good gets and helped round the library. I'm surprised they didn't come back.

Yeah I am quite shocked Konami did not seem interested in this. Snatcher and Rocket Knight Adventures being absent is genuinely shocking to me, it was the perfect time to release them again.
