Herzog Zwei released in late 1989 in Japan, early spring 1990 in the U.S.

Dune II released in 1992 on PC.

The Genesis got a port in 1993. Dune: The Battle for Arrakis, in Europe it was titled Dune II Battle for Arrakis

Fun game. However I dont think it deserves accolades for being first RTS that many seem to want to bestow upon it. There were several real time strategy/tactical games that predate even Herzog Zwei. All the way from Ancient Art of War in 1984 to things like Carrier Command and several others..

Dune 2 clearly created and established the formula that Westwood and several copycats took and buit upon throughout the 90s.. Herzog is great but a very different game.
