May be old news, not sure. It has been making the rounds on the twitterverse

As per their job ad for a Lead Project Manager

Requirements:
  • Hands-on game development experience in leadership roles shipping AAA live service games.

EDIT: Maybe its just the MP component it is referring to
As part of the PlayStation Studios family, we promise to continue bringing you quality experiences that aim to leave an everlasting impact with you. As of today, we are currently working on a new IP that includes multiplayer and builds upon the open-world systems of Days Gone

It was already announced to be a project that "includes multiplayer", so it likely has both modes

Is this what the future of gaming is gonna be? A sea of live service GaaS filled to the brim with microtransactions.

How bleak.

Yes we already knew this. This what they said two years ago about it :

"We are currently working on a new IP that includes multiplayer and builds upon the open-world systems of Days Gone, but brings you a whole new world that we are extremely excited to craft for you. We cannot wait to reveal it to you when the time is right."

So yeah it will probably have both modes but the most interesting thing is that it seem that they are not using Unreal for their new IP but the Decima Engine.

Much like his work at Naughty Dog, Seymour's duties at Bend Studio on its new project involve layout, population, macro/micro polish, the design of maps, and POI. The thing that stands out as interesting, however, is the mention of the Decima engine among the tools that he's worked with for this project. This would imply that Bend Studio's next title is being developed using Guerrilla Games' in-house engine.

I think posts in here mean they want an sp story and then there is an mp or coop section utilizating the assets and universe.
Yeah but that would still lead to it being worse...the same logic applies, the amount of resources needed to make just one great mode is large enough...

There is a reason everyone stopped doing tacked on MP modes or tacked on story modes for MP games unless you have the budget of CoD.

Many games still do this outside of COD.

People love to complain about microtransactions, GaaS, Battlepass etc, but there is a reason why they are so abundant in the industry...

For every 10 failed GaaS, you get one mega hit that makes more money than anything the company had done previously, which is why publishers are always willing to take the risk. In the never ending chase for infinite growth, this is the outcome. I just don't expect it to end pretty for a lot of those involved.

Multiplayer elements could mean a lot of things. Ghost of Tsushima wasn't worse, its multiplayer mode was refreshing and added more value to the game. All the souls games have multiplayer elements to them, death stranding had multiplayer elements in it as well

"Multiplayer" doesn't immediately equals a bad product filled with micro transactions.

Add it to the pile?

But seriouisly, if it turns out anything like a co-op Days Gone, even if it's a looter type thing, I'll give it a try.

Bend doing a throwback to their old unnecessary mp pre-GAAS tack-on?

(Sad thing is I'd actually accept a reboot of that these days. Especially if it brought Syphon Filter back)

We'll probably see people overreacting again.

Let's first see what the game is.

Yeah, this. The whole rumour seems misleading based on a single job advert, when they've already publicly announced they're doing a single player game with a multiplayer component, and we have no reason to think that has changed.

They announced that they are working on a (mostly) open-world singleplayer game with a multiplayer mode. And it looks like it's exactly that. I expect something like Elden Ring. Mostly a SP game with MP.

It's been 5 years already since Days Gone release. I hope their new game will be announced in the next Showcase if it's not in development hell

Bend already failed when they had to make only a single player game so let's dump even more work on them. Not too confident on how this will play out.

Seeing how surprising the Helldiver2 success is, I'd better stop speculate anything on this industry as I always predict things wrong lol.

Did they fail? Days Gone sold over 8m. I can't imagine that game didn't make a big profit, even if it didn't hit the heights of Sony's top sellers. But then again few single player games do. They can't all be platinum hits. If Sony doesn't have a place for 70-80 rated single player games then god help the rest of the AAA industry.
