wait wtf it requires a Chromecast at launch, even though the Project Stream beta ran on desktop Chrome browsers?
There is a free sub that you can use. Here's the issue: I have Amazon Prime, i buy ... John Wick 3 from the Prime Video store, i'll cancel my Prime sub. Sure, i don't have the free movies anymore, but i can still watch John Wick 3.
Issue nailed down: You can't play anymore without the sub, EVEN THOUGH you paid full price for the game.
How is this the only way i will/would work? This is TERRIBLE, good grief.
It's an artificial throttle on demand this year while they scale the infrastructure. Same reason Sony didn't expand PSNow to every device from the get-go.
Having to buy the games on top of paying for a subscription is pretty damn stupid..if this leak is legit that's a mega fail google.
The failure of this system is pretty damm good cause microsoft and sony will not go this route at least for decades!
Yeah, I agree. I think $11.99 is a good price. You get 4K streaming and a library of games to play. It's just that I'll never use it due to data caps. It's just a shame that they free 1080p sub won't be available until 2020.So $11.99 to access games that they cycle through the catalog (just like Netflix) and if you want to play NEW games as they release you'd have to buy them outright (like you do currently with PS+/GwG/Origin)
I am ok with this. This is basically just an alternative to what we have now without having to buy dedicated hardware for it. At $11.99 to access 31 games at launch this isn't bad at all.
Although this is a rumor/leak, I'm still excited to see what they'll have to share.
Free to play destiny 2? They won't be paying $60 at allYou think "casuals" (their main target) will pay $60 to stream Destiny 2?
With Google's track record on killing even good products....This thing is going to be dead before Xbox 2 and PS5 launch next year. What a pointless service. I feel bad for all the talent they acquired.
It's still the idea, but it won't be for 2019.So basically the Chromecast is a micro-console? I thought the idea was to not have hardware tied to Stadia lol.
I don't know if others have clarified it for you, but i get the impression that they are separate things. The sub is for junky old games like Destiny 2, you pay full price for non-sub games that you can keep and play regardless of the subscription.
It's a new platform what did you expect? The PS4 had 26 games at launch.
It's not like Netflix at all. If Netflix had you pay big money just to turn it on, then the usual subscription fee and then actually buy each film separately, there wouldn't be a Netflix. I don't see how your analogy to films in the cinemas fits with what's being discussed here.I mean this sounds exactly like Netflix to me. Are you getting the newest movies that are coming out in theaters on Netflix? You get them after a few months (A year or more in some cases maybe). You can pay to go and see the movie in the theater if you need to see it as early as possible, but if you are patient it will eventually show up on your subscription of choice.
correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like you'd still need a Google device even in 2020. so no iPhone, yeah?
I love that idea. Buying a full price game for PC/Xbox/PS4 whatever, having a Stadia code thrown in. Movies on disc sometimes do that, they give you a code to get it on a VOD service also. This pricing scheme can be pretty good depending on one important detail.
If I buy a game through google's store is that copy only playable on Stadia servers or can I play it on a PC, xbox, ps4, switch after I download it?
If I can choose which platform it works on then I'm essentially subbing so I can play my games anywhere that is much cheaper than Nvidia's solution and has a reach beyond my home unlike Valve's solution.
You have to buy the game and can stream for free.separate sub will be available in 2020, and is completely free. It'll only allow up to 1080p streaming, and won't include any game like the Pro sub.
I don't get this part. So you can only play games you buy like normal so what's the point of the sub?
I am too hahaIt feels like I'm in the 1% of this board that is still genuinly interested in Stadia, haha.
That was always the case, since the first reveal. PC with Chrome, TV with Chromecast, or Google device. I'm sure they'll expand if it's a hit (big if), but for now that's it.correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like you'd still need a Google device even in 2020. so no iPhone, yeah?
I mean, assuming this would work well enough, I can see a ton of parents buying subscriptions for their kids.I mean at 10$ a month I can't see who they're trying to appeal to here.
They don't really want to be Netflix, they want to be Playstation and Xbox without the upfront cost. It's going to be hard for them to market themselves that way without any exclusives and with the way they presented the service beforehand.
La Presse is a serious journal, if they report on it it's most likely true.
Which market though?
But if the part of the story where they say that older games will be included in the Pro sub, and you only have to buy new games, thats exactly like Netflix. It's not like Netflix at all. If Netflix had you pay big money just to turn it on, then the usual subscription fee and then actually buy each film separately, there wouldn't be a Netflix. I don't see how your analogy to films in the cinemas fits with what's being discussed here.
Besides, a lot of people (mostly) watch Netflix for their own content and licensed TV shows, myself included.
I don't own anything I buy on Netflix, Amazon Prime and I'm ok with that. This is no different. You do have to buy hardware, and it will work worse, and you won't own a copy of whatever you buy.
It's streaming therefore it should be free, right? Let me remind you that in Japan you pay Resi7 for Switch full price to stream it for two years.so you have to buy new games at full price to stream them at a shitty bitrate? lol
I don't think its gonna be tough to convince people. I think virtually everyone here will be streaming in some capacity within a year. The thing that will be tough is convincing long time gamers to make Stadia their main platform.
so you do need to buy hardware lolThat was always the case, since the first reveal. PC with Chrome, TV with Chromecast, or Google device. I'm sure they'll expand if it's a hit (big if), but for now that's it.
