This is a very outdated way to organize the game files and a very messy too.
The best and easiest way is to convert every iso to chd or a pbp file for multiple disc games.
You can convert to chd with a tool called chdman. For pbp use psx2psp.

I did a few .chd conversions already, guess I can do the rest. It seems there might be some decompression slowdown with Dreamcast games which I won't be using anyway. PSX seems fine.

I'd rather use chd than pbp, though I guess one disadvantage with chd over pbp (or even the .m3u method) is that you can't create a single file for multiple discs, so the emulator library would have multiple listings for multidisc games. Unless you subfoldered those specifically.

So... should i get in line for a Analogue pocket?

What's the best solution for someone wanting to play everything from GB through to PS1 well? A nice interface that updates over WiFi is a must as well.

An RG351V if you want the Game Boy form factor. 351MP if you want horizontal orientation, but that one requires a dongle for WiFi. Upgrade to 351Elec firmware on either, and you're good to go.

I would throw in the RGB Max 2 as well if you're looking for horizontal. The terrible dpad I had on my RG351M scared me off the MP since it's the same shell. The 351V doesn't have that problem though and is great if you're looking for a vertical.

Had the RG351M for at least 8 months but never experienced troubles with the dpad though. The triggers weren't that great though.

There was an issue with diagonals not registering, which made fighting games basically unplayable. Easy to not notice on other games, though it's possible they fixed it on later models. I got mine fairly early. There's a Reddit thread here going over it more, but the fix involves opening up the unit and sanding it down.

My 351P arrived, I've already set it up with the newest 351ELEC firmware and tried a GBA game. Feels great. My WiFi dongle will arrive in the next days for the perfect OS updates with videos and whatnot.

1. RG552 looks super legit, might pick one up next year depending on how I like the Steam Deck for emulation when mine arrives in Q1.
2. What's the most user friendly "it just works" type of firmware for the RG351 series? I think I'm going to get one set up for a friend as a Christmas present. Don't need anything fancy, just a good suite of emulators and preferably some slightly upgraded library navigation with favorites, recents, etc.

I haven't tried ArkOs but 351elec is exactly what you are looking for. Very user friendly, everything is already setup. You can create your own playlist. Favorites is already build in.

Good that Ross touches on ergonomics of playing 3d games.

I don't think there is any handheld that I truly enjoy playing like FPS's on, including the controllers for phones for gamepass stuff.

351Elec is the "it just works" option on the RG351 devices. Simple user experience, and has many of the emulator settings preconfigured, so you don't need to spend much time dealing with RetroArch if you don't want to. You can certainly still tinker with it if you want too, but it's probably not necessary for most people.

They also recently re-enabled online updating, which makes it very easy to update the firmware if there's ever a new build. No more removing the SD card or transferring the update files with FTP.

I think the 552 might be anbernic's first dud based on early impressions. Body flex, fan noise and old chipset. Can't wait for impressions of the RG2+ and Odin.

I still haven't finished the video by Russ but those trigger are so far my biggest gripe with it. Those are my only real problem with the 351 devices and them being even worse now is a no go. My next handheld needs stacked triggers.

^^this

It's one thing on a system that only has PS1 using R2/L2 but you can't do moonlight/gamepass/stadia without having a claw grip. Can't play games that utilise L2/R2 for very long at all.

The 7x integer scaling for GBA games on that screen looks nice.

If it gets a price cut I might consider buying one, just for GBA and the older 4:3 systems.

As much as I love my 351V, my old eyes would love a bigger screen.

Of course, if the Steam Deck arrives this century, I might just use that.

Yeah, the one main reason I didn't want to get the current crop of handhelds was due to screen size (and power, to be fair).

Just changed put my Switch Lite for OLED due to better screen essentially. The 5:3 ratio of the new screen and size is quite good. Too bad everything around that is underwhelming.

I'm wondering if I should care about the Analogue Pocket, the screen looks awesome but the 351V screen is already amazing enough for me.

My current airplane/travel load out is 351V and Switch.

Steam Deck will be interesting. It's theoretically possible that's all I need. Maybe I will still need something 351V sized, we shall see.

the V and other vertical machines is super triggering to me. Just years of hunching over the OG Gameboy has scared me. Game Gear was the first machine that got it right, even if you needed a nuclear reactor for more than an hour of play time

My build so far : 351V, Vita, N3DS XL (til I'm done with SMTIV&A) and Switch. I am now saving for these expensive Windows handheld in order to play FFXIV and PS3 on the go. I obviously don't play any of them more than 1 hour a day but I want to SAVOUR every minute of them.

It's a nostalgia thing for me. Playing OG GB/GBC games, a vertical layout adds to the experience. Even the GBA SP was my favorite GBA. I had been looking at these handhelds for a while, and when the 351V got announced, it just spoke to me.

Playing GameBoy games on an airplane with that form factor is maximum nostalgia for me.

I did have a Game Gear at one point back in the day, but went back to Gameboy when the Pocket came out. You couldn't travel with a Game Gear, it just ate too many batteries too quickly to be good for travel.

Most of the newest handhelds should be able to run the new android PS2 emulator that just came out, but performance will still vary wildly per game, so you should ask yourself which PS2 games are you trying to play

Looks like the best one the Odin Base is running a snapdragon 845. I got one of those in my old phone so probably best to use it and wait for a deck.

More than 20 hours of Rogue Galaxy played on Aethersx2. This emulator is insanely good!

What phone is that?

Yep, it's a lot for a lot of people. Especially considering the Steam Deck is on the horizon.
ETA Prime mentioned on his recent video the Aya Neo Pro would still likely come up on top for performance emulation but if Steam Deck does admirably the price is a no-brainer.

Now that the RG552 is on the horizon do you guys think prices on RG351MP will drop a bit? I'm on the cusp of getting one but I can't seem to find one anywhere I'm comfortable buying from for less than $165.
