People who say theirs don't do that either have ambient noise that's louder in their room or have In a perfect world, all consoles would achieve the level of quiet MS did with the XSX. It's not even whisper quiet. It's straight up silent.
In theory you can. You just make the console draw less power, which has a very obvious effect on performance, so they'll never do that. We just need to live with it apparently.
I've got the same issue and it's more audible in person, the microphone isn't going to pick up on it as well as you can hear it. I don't understand trying to downplay it when there's numerous people in this thread that have said it's clearly audible in person, not just when you're right next to it.
Coil whine on mine is so bad I think my PS4 pro is quieter. Another generation of poor hardware design by Sony.
hopefully the refresh in 3 years is quiet.
I'd say they they are about the same decibel level. PS4 pro is a loud fan hum while this is just a loud electrical whine. As I previously said, mine does the same thing, so I know it's "clearly audible in person". What I'm downplaying is that it's so loud that it pierces through the sound of a game while wearing headphones at 6+ feet. Mine sounds exactly like what is in the video, and the room has to actually be silent to notice it from a distance. If someone is really straining to hear it even with headphones on, then I suppose they will notice it more. I'm even using semi-open headphones while gaming, and they normally don't isolate all that well.
Like I also said though, it might be a positional issue. I put mine behind my TV, and while I can still hear it when there's absolutely nothing else going on in the room, it's entirely drowned out with game audio. And I don't have it blasting either.
Your PS5 is noisier than a jet engine, or did you end up getting a quiet Pro?
Not yet, because I've seen so many others saying they have it too. I'm wondering if it's just how they are, and I'll end up with the same thing. That said, I don't find it okay which is why I'm trying to get more feedback from owners.
I really hope they can iron out this shit in production over the coming months. I'm definitely not touching the PS5 before this is sorted.
My ps5 started very quiet on launch day but now the coil whine is very audible
Yeah this also happened to me. Was dead silent on launch and seems to be getting louder. My ps5 started very quiet on launch day but now the coil whine is very audible
I mean, you can't hear it unless you turn down every other sound source in your room and it's a silent room.
Well, that's certainly a take.

Dumbass post from someone coming in here claiming they know better then the people experiencing the issue.Well, that's certainly a take.

Sony won't acknowledge shit. IF they care to fix the problem they will quietly release a revision like they did with the Pro. People will then have to compare model numbers and try to find out themselves if anything changed. This whole thing is so disappointing, they improved the fan noise so much over the Pro only to fuck it up and cheap out on the power supply.Has anyone sent it back to Sony or have they even at least acknowledged the issue yet?
Well, you can add me to the list of disappointed buyers. Sitting about 2,5 m from the PS5, and as soon as there are moments of quiet (which basically is all the time in Demons Souls due to lack of music), it's highly audible

When do you guys think Sony will have new revision PS5's? I guess everything they sell until very end of December is rev 1 with possibility of being loud. I received a mail from one retailer for limited stock next week. I want the console but must resist somehow.
Don´t get your hopes up that they will change anything, i´ve bought a revision Pro in 2018 and it also had severe coil whine. even the 500million edition PS4s had it.
Maybe I'm luckier than most but although my console has coil whine it's not noticeable unless the TV is muted and I get nearer to the console, and this is only in intensive games like Miles and DeS.Dumbass post from someone coming in here claiming they know better then the people experiencing the issue.

That Gamespot article makes me furious. Lazy, crappy, clickbait journalism and of course that "fix" is now going viral.
That makes me tempted to contact them in a week or two and try my luck. Though I wouldn't be surprised if his experience wasn't indicative of what to expect.Yep, just watched his video. He had a brand new console shipped in 8 days and then shipped his old one with the coil whine. Not sure if this is representative of the whole support experience, but it is a good sign. Might contact Sony for a replacement in a few weeks if it continues to be an annoying issue.

If I recall that person had other major issues plus coil whine. Sony is not going to be sending out replacements because you hear a little buzzing noise. Fyi I do have a slight sound coming from mine but I dont expect it to be replaced due to it. Also 99% the replacement has the same "thing". Its not a defect. Its how it was mass produced. Those who say "theirs is dead silent" are likely wrong. They might not be able to hear the noise due to hearing loss. (True story lol)Yep, just watched his video. Yeah, I suspect this is a widespread problem. My friend said they couldn't hear coil whine on their unit...until I told them what to look out for. Now they can't unhear it lol.If I recall that person had other major issues plus coil whine. Sony is not going to be sending out replacements because you hear a little buzzing noise.
