My rule with headsets and such is to hold off until the reviews are in. If the 3D audio is really good, then I might splurge. Otherwise I'll save my dollars and keep using my Sennheisers.

I just got platinum a year ago. Will hold off unless it's mind blowing. 3D audio sounds interesting! But not enough for me to spend more rn. Already hurt to get PS5 and Demons Souls

So any one think I should buy them based off the 3D audio? My ps5 is going to be hooked up to 7.1 surround sound and I'm not normally a fan of headphones. So I'm curious if switching out to headphones is going to be a down grade? I'm thinking so.

Probably a downgrade. Do we know if the Pulse headset's "3D audio" is software or not?

Might get one of these after seeing some impressions. The Gold headphones served me well, had them for for years but now the cups are completely shot.

I still think something like the Porta Pros or Koss khp30i will still destroy these PS5 3D audio headsets in term of sound quality and better sense of soundstage and 3D holographic audio, as they obliterated my lastest PS4 GOLD.

No offense to Microsoft or Sony, but I wouldn't buy a headset from either of them. There are other companies like Sennheiser, HyperX, and Razer that do it better.

Are people in here aware that the console itself does the 3D audio processing and that it will work with any stereo headphones/headset? Because folk seem to be implying that you need these new Sony headsets.

That's what I'm thinking, as cool as it is, it's still not the same as speakers being all around you. I might still pick one up for when the kiddo is sleeping in me and my girlfriends room. That way I don't wake her up and get yelled at! Lol. And my bet is software based, although I think they said ps5 has a special audio chip build in. But that's tech talk above my understanding so could just be marketing speak.

It's been stated numerous times. I assume most people don't actually read other posts. Lol

Yeah I got them. Never had an issue with any of their headsets so I'm giving this one a go too. Plus I wanted a second set anyways since ive been using the platinum headset on my pc and switch.

I want one but i've never had any Sony cups and i don't know if i trust on this slim design looks like it's prone to crack/break on the sides...
I'll probably wait for reviews since i'm kinda nitpicky with sound quality (rocking ATH-M50x everyday on studio) if things look promising enough i'll bite.

But i'm intrigued with those buzzwords.

Does anyone know if 3D Audio will work fine via the headphone jack? I'm not an audiophile, so if it works okay, great, doesn't need to be pristine. I preordered the PS5 Pulse headset, but I already have a pair of sony wh xb900n's that I'd be happy to use if 3D Audio does in fact work via headphone jack. I know 3D Audio is supposed to work on any headset, just want to be sure it works via the headphone jack as well.

Its actually kinda interesting. But im just going to use and he headphone jack i think. Any set of regular headphones or earbuds will work for the 3d audio effect.

Any recommended high-end headsets other than the Sony ones? I got the pulse plats and I've had to send them in for servicing twice now (under warranty) due to disconnect issues.

I wonder if these are an upgrade over my Arctic 7s. not sure its worth buying, I like that they work on PC and PS5 but it would need to be a step up from my Arctics.

I like that my current set I can plug it into the PS4 controller or I can turn them on and it connects to PC via bluetooth. I would prefer it wireless to PS5 but how would I switch between PS5 and PC?

You want headphones that cup over your ears instead of earbuds. HRTF uses the shape of your ear for the 3D audio.

Oic. The psvr works with earbuds, but i can see how an over ear headset would work better.

Theres actually a killer set of bose headphones around here if i could just borrow them.....

I was excited when they were announced alongside the console, but I'm not buying them without reviews.
Can we use other headphones and enjoy the 3d audio or do we need to have the pulse?

I pre-ordered cause I want the better audio and hoping it connects to the PS5 without a USB dongle. I worry about USB real estate not knowing how the PSVR will connect.

Just use a USB hub. I've got so much hooked up to my PS4 Pro's rear port thanks to a USB hub.

It's better than the Gold since it has 3D audio.

The Gold will have 3D audio too. There's nothing in these headphones that generates 3D audio since the PS5 does all that and any headphones will work including the Gold headset.

the design definitely looks to be much better to where it won't snap near the ear pieces. I remember both of my golds snapped within months of using them because of how stiff the bands were.

Sony's marketing these quite well. The amount of people who think these headphones do 3D audio is really high. These are just headphones, 3D audio is a feature of PS5 (and I'll make a solid wager it's just a fancy way of saying stereo surround sound). Any headphones can make use of the feature, so spend your money on a pair that's cheaper and better

So basically the best headset to get with a PS5 is one that can deliver a very wide sound stage, good enough bass, and clean mic experience?

If anyone's buying any of Sony's headsets, I would suggest getting an extended warranty. I've heard a lot of stories that they break.

I still can't believe that they won't allow something like their own newest bluetooth wireless noise-cancelling headset on the PS5 (being the Sony WH-1000XM4) considering that it costs $350 w/tax.

I managed to preorder one on Friday, like 3 minutes after they went up on Amazon. I had the Sony Wireless headset on PS3 then the good headset on PS4. The PS3 one was great and lasted me 3 years. The gold had a bad mic and mine broke after a year. I had a overall good experience but I'll probably move on to another headset by mid generation 😂

I preordered a pair when the Amazon orders went up with the plan to cancel nearer the time if they were a bit crap.

Does anyone know if the PS5 supports Bluetooth headphones? I'd love to use my Sony WH-XM3's without having to use the 3.5mm jack.

The best headset isn't a headset at all. It's a pair of headphones with a Boompro mic.

Nope.

I preordered it at first. Then decided to cancel it.
I got the gold for the PS4 and barely used that thing. Don't see that changing for the PS5 at the moment

I have gold's which are still working fine, but age not super comfortable with a long gaming session.
The gold's will work on ps5 right?
I have this new headset preordered, but I am thinking of cancelling it. They seem like a replacement of the gold, is there any reason to buy them if my gold 's still work fine?

Ironically I am kind of put off by the relatively reasonable price!

I'm interested as I want some good quality headphones but I need them to work across XSX/PS5 can anybody suggest some wireless ones that will work on both consoles? Thanks

I guess this depends for me since now the ps5 doesn't have an optical port and I have to run it through my tv, I'm wondering if I'll miss out on the ps5s new sound signature or not.

Still using this guy. The material around the ear is starting to peal off so feels like a good time to upgrade.

Those are the ones that I had.
despite hardly using them andalso being very careful with them, this ended up cracking at the obvious weak point below the silver parts.

Sony's customer service was so abysmal that I doubt I will be getting any more Sony headphones ever again.
if you look online you'll find that them cracking at that point is extremely common, which is why they must have changed to that uglier version that looks like it has mini ps3s strapped to the sides.

It's a product of the Tempest engine. Any headset you plug in will let you hear it.
Ah, so the software has been moved from the headset to the system itself. Then there's no need to buy the official headset then, I'll just stick with my current headphones. If those wireless cans are really good though, and work on PC, I may pick some up to use with my VR HMD.

i preorderd. i got the Gold Headset for PS4. The first "gen" headsets peeled of on the ear part so that was bad but they second revision of those headsets were great.

I mainly bought this because i hope these are designed to take advantage of the PS5's audio technology. Also i like this because i love the design that matches the PS5.

The PS5 not having optical Audio input means i'll probably go exclusively on headset while gaming.

Yeah I've preordered it. I'm only expecting slight audio improvements over my 2nd gen Golds, My biggest hope is better battery life as my current ones only last around 5-6 hours and the new ones having USB-C means just one cable to charge the controller and headset.

I have the Platinum and I'm wondering if the Pulse 3D brings anything new to the table. As far as I could gather, it seems to be more or less the same?
