You just witnessed the selfish abdication of social responsibility.
While that sounds bad, only 13% of millenials voted in 2016, so this is actually a huge jump.
No offense, but FUCK that garbage. If we don't push to get EVERYONE voting, we don't deserve to call ourselves a democracy. If we don't think we can win most of the inactive portion of the electorate to our side, we may as well stage a violent coup, dissolve Congress, and institute an unelected liberal junta.
or they have other reasons for not voting.... ever considered that?
Hey look that's confirmation bias, just like what Trump does!(One poll comes out with bad news)
"Oh god we're doomed, the kingdom is lost"
(The aggregate shows Democrats ahead by more than nine points)
"lol can't trust the polls"
The bulldozer isn't Trump/the Republicans, it's the American democratic system in general. Voting is playing right into their hands as it's acknowledging the legitimacy of the electoral system. Not that I think people shouldn't vote, I just think that people shouldn't expect much change from voting.
I think that reform and representative democracy are fundamentally flawed, yes, I think the most surefire way to get massive change is through revolution. The capitalist system is always going to lead to small groups of individuals dominating over a much larger population, that's how competition works and when you're competing you want to make sure you stay on top.Encouraging voluntary disenfranchisement is only making the electoral system less and less legitimate. Unless you think democracy is fundamentally unworkable, you should be encourage voting WHILE ALSO working to reform corruption through other means. Politicians won't start caring about your opinions because you DIDN'T vote; to them you may as well not even exist.
Ahhh! I was actually worried for a second.I found the problem folks:
The 28% poll is from the Public Religion Research Institute and the Atlantic
So uh, the heavily religious and mostly not millenials age group of young voters will be having the 28% turnout rate.. . Honestly for that demographic lower is probably better.
In contrast to asking in church or whatever:
a recent poll conducted by the Associated Press and University of Chicago's NORC found that 32 percent of young voters would certainly vote and 56 percent were likely to. Another poll by Cosmopolitan magazine and SurveyMonkey found that 48 percent of young voters were "absolutely certain" they'd vote in the midterms.
Like it's not even just about "trusting the polls," there have been countless examples in recent special elections of a highly energized Democratic base that simply wasn't there in 2016.
or they have other reasons for not voting.... ever considered that?

I guess I could have just stated that I'm a socialist/communist outright, yes.If that's your opinion, then that's your prerogative, but I'd prefer that you be more upfront in your conviction that representative democracy in America is an unsalvagable failure that must be replaced through revolt.
Why the fuck is Vox providing the wrong age group for Millennials???
I am an actual Millennial, born in 1986, am 32 years old and I have voted in every single election since I turned 18 in 2004. Here's a picture of me right when I got home from voting in the 2018 primary for my state:
Millenials are considered people who grew up or came of age around the turn of the millenium. The age range I've read is born from 1980 to 1995.
Maybe America needs to destroy itself. Maybe it needs to start over.
Got to get people through the doors somehow lol.
Millenials [to America]: "I won't kill you. But I don't have to save you."
I feel the same way... in reverse. If the left can't win without pushing disinterested kids to vote, wtf is wrong with us, our platform, our values, and our country/system as a whole?
I'm not saying that we shouldn't encourage participation in our system somewhat, but the whole "We could have won if only X% of eligible millennials had voted! We gotta push, push, push young people to vote!" comes off as desperate and hysterical. Its a very blunt attack with an ass load of drawbacks especially as a significant number of those kids age to the right. Targeted (I mean beyond just age) grassroots efforts are far superior and more beneficial in the long run.
We need to make voting mandatory for younger folks- get them in the habit early. Perhaps make it mandatory for college financial aid or loan repayment programs?
I'm sure people bosses will love this.We need to make voting mandatory for younger folks- get them in the habit early. Perhaps make it mandatory for college financial aid or loan repayment programs?
According to the poll I just read, most of this forum isn't American.
I guess I could have just stated that I'm a socialist/communist outright, yes.
it's whoever is younger than the author of the article shitting on millennials for not buying laundry detergent or whatever28% is alot higher than normal.
Wtf is a millennial? Sometimes im gen z , sometimes I'm a millennial. These classifications are stupid
No millennial is just something stupid boomers have been using for 20 years to say "those damn kids!"
