With the sequel coming I decided to finally return to and finish Spiderman. I'll never understand why this game didn't click with me. I've loved Spiderman since I was a kid, and this should've been a dream game for me but alas it somehow didn't resonate with me and that makes me feel so alien considering how beloved it is as well as my own interests... I'm onto the DLC and then Miles.

Fair enough it's just bad that it kind of is open season on publishers right now. At least while the challenges were ongoing it felt like we didn't have to worry about a big chunk of games suddenly getting pulled from one platform or another. Big gaming news used to be like system A gets a $50 price cut, not "Giant Publisher X has been bought and will never make games for anything but Y" lol.
At least the game release schedule has been excellent this year.
The internal documents from Microsoft about their plans to acquire Sega stipulated that they would keep the games multiplatform. But those were relatively old documents, plans may have changed.
At this point the goal for Xbox is not necessarily to have more exclusives (they already have by sheer number of studios) but to steer the industry towards digital-only and subscription services. Each year from now when Call of Duty releases and Sony sells it for 80€ while Xbox proudly says that you don't have to buy it because it's included in your Gamepass subscription service, that's a free marketing win for Microsoft every single year about the biggest game in the US. That's like what happened when MLB The Show came to Gamepass but on a vastly bigger scale.
The documents were from shortly after the Bethesda acquisition closed and with that they pivoted from IPs with a legacy being multiplatform to just breadcrumbs from older remasters. Even with ABK they originally offered all ABK games for a handful of years on PlayStation (something they knew Sony would reject as it isn't that long) to just CoD after the markets approved the deal.
Best to just assume the worst and that Sega games will be console exclusive with marginal chance of them continuing to make games for Nintendo platforms to make it go through easier in Japan in particular.
For sure. It's a reality for the industry right now and honestly it's hard to predict what is going to happen in the future. Thing is, Xbox could very well buy Sega in the future and it'll be absolutely shit but honestly, there's not much we can do. Just gotta enjoy the games coming up and ignore the noise. All these acquisition fanboy dorks mostly just wanna console war without explicitly console war. With Spider-Man coming up there's honestly not much to be upset about.
