Does it really? It's been a couple years since I watched the originals, but the picture looks like they took the first from the original cut and the second from the remastered cut.

Nothing. Safari (Mac and iOS) doesn't support the image format you are using.
WebM and WebP aren't natively supported by neither iOS Safari nor macOS Safari, sadly.
And yeah "LOL APPLE etc." whatever, but it's not like i can even open a .webp in Adobe Photoshop :P
but i can copy the image link and just replace .webp with .png and it's fine 😉
Ah a Mac thing gotcha. I use a Mac at work but with Chrome so hadn't noticed. Thanks for the heads up.
