Sacramento's even worse. They cancelled all of the universities in the area (Sac State & UCD) schooling but they kept all grade schools open the entire week until today. Completely crazy they let kids go to school in this.
That's insane. It's been completely disgusting for days on end. I would NEVER send my kid out in this.I live in Sacramento area and my kid's school district was closed yesterday too, but they were the only district. Today, they're all closed. My coworkers were saying they closed alot of schools in the other districts early because there was such little attendance.
The reason given by Sacramento Unified as to why they remained open was something along the lines of, it wouldn't be fair to all the families who do not have child care in place, kids would end up outside in the smoke, so they're better off in school.
That looks bad. Reminds me of how a ton of B.C. and Alberta looked like this summer because of the fires.
I don't think "regular smog" manifests in a week.
Wow. Today, San Francisco has the #1 worst air quality in the world. The Camp Fire smoke has virtually shut down the town. All schools canceled tomorrow. It's a toxic, frightening smell.
Wtf
This might be the most frustrating couple of sentences I have read all week.I said this in the fire thread, but I work in downtown SF. The other day I saw people outside taking a smoke break and smoking cigarettes. When they were done they put their masks back on.
This is a terrible attitude. i have a family member hospitalized due to the smoke here in the South Bay, an Era member lost their aunt to the smoke in Sacramento, and several folks getting hit with smoke in the 250+ AQI range and aren't taking care are likely to have severe health issues that can stick with them for life.Yeah, it's ok to complain about the smoke, but really, hundreds of people will die from these and thousands more will lose their home, so anyone in a smoky area(I'm in El Dorado Hills outside of Sac) really can't complain when you literally still have everything, and are just losing the ability to walk outside for a week or 2.
You can be bummed about the smoke and still realize the people losing their lives and livelihood has it way worse. So you can absolutely complain. Nobody is blaming people for getting their city burnt.
but yah, here's my view today:
vs usually:
I saw this shit a couple months ago in Seattle as well. It always cracks me up.I said this in the fire thread, but I work in downtown SF. The other day I saw people outside taking a smoke break and smoking cigarettes. When they were done they put their masks back on.
Really?
I was planning on visiting family in Turlock and spending time in SF for Christmas.
Now I'm not sure if that will even be safe. Not to mention the air quality. I hated the air during my month in China. Might have to buy 3M respiratorsz
Hah, it wasn't the smoke but I'm glad something did because it was ugly as heck. Square bought the space and is building it out.
Yep. 19 cigarettes here if you're outside for like 2 fucking hours. The air quality in San Francisco today is the equivalent of smoking 11.5 cigarettes
If you need masks check your local fire department. Mine were giving them out for free this morning.
