I feel like people are just randomly naming games at this point. I could pick basically every hyped and successful PC game made over 5 years ago and say, "It's now completely forgotten" and it would fit with the choices in this thread.
You would not BELIEVE how hyped I was for this one!
Genji days of the blade. Had me hyped for a sec, until the giant enemy crab came
This one makes me sad. It really was a fun game :(
I wonder why nobody mentioned Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Before its release it had a ton of hype around it.
The first 3D game of Bullfrog, after the marvelous Populous, Syndicate and Theme Park.
Sony push hard this game (the first of Kazunori Yamaushi ) in the launch window of Playstation.
The Sonic of the launch of Saturn.
The sequel of the Cruin's Usa, projected to be the Ridge Racer/Daytona USA of Nintendo 64.
Somebody forgot me?
Well.......yes
The Resident Evil Killer"
Especially hyped for the launch of the Dreamcast.
It actually sold decent enough, but that's because it was a launch title and it was expected.
Man, this game is just terrible. All we remember is the out of place Christmas music.
I ended up trading the game back to the stores.
I literally never hear anyone talk about it ever, so I think it fits pretty well.I dont think Perfect Dark is a good of example of completely forgotten. If im not wrong, theres even rumors of a sequel.
Asheron's Call was a successful game for quite a long time. A better example would be the sequel that did so poorly it was quickly shutdown while the original was still going years later.
It's like the 'most overrated' threats where people just start listing every well received game ever made.I feel like people are just randomly naming games at this point. Off-topic, but slightly relevant: the guy behind that subtitle is a poster here in the forum. He'll love the fact that it has turned into a meme of sorts.

this definitely existed in a boxNever played Brute Force but goddamn does it look stupid as hell.
Here's a recent one:
I honestly thought it came out years ago and no one cared, but googling just now reveals it was cancelled.

Vanguard:Saga of Heroes was helmed by the genius behind Everquest and would unabashedly be so hardcore, featuring immense amount of contents, factions play, and progression systems outside of combat, GODDAMNIT
Not only did it come out, an official Conker revival was made inside of itNever played Brute Force but goddamn does it look stupid as hell.

I remember that game!Pariah, anyone?
The map editor was supposed to be the nail in Halo's coffin.
Anyone? Anyone?
Platinum Games try of an online multiplayer 3D beat em up game!
Online problems and short singleplayer (but many playable characters instead) make none-PG-fans to forgot this game to quickly.
Still has that great PG action
I don't think there was particular high expectations for either of these. They barely got marketing.
Rumors about a different game are about a different game tho.Well, its like if I ever heard anything about Horizon Zero Down, for me its ok to be here. Just no haha. Go check Google News and you will see that theres plenty of rumors and many sites talking about it.
Telltale's Walking Dead series was hyped after it GOTY wins in 2012 but the series faded into obscurity rather quickly. I think the novelty of the choices got too repetitive for people. Many people aren't looking forward to "The Final Season".
Dragon Age Inquisition also faded quite quickly after the Witcher 3, but I would argue the games have different strengths.
First game I thought of. The hype was unreal for this game.Haze..THE HALO KILLER has arrived... oh..wait.
I actually bought the game brand new a year ago dirt, dirt cheap just to see if it's that bad,and because I still think the boxart is cool:
lol nope, this game still has a vibrant community on reddit. there's an new ARG going on right now leading up to yet another big update. You being ignorant of the massive improvements doesn't mean the game is forgotten, far from it.
Spore.
There was SO MUCH HYPE around Spore. People completely bought into Will Wright's "SimEverything" pitch.
Then the game came out, turned out to be a lot less ambitious than originally presumed, and was fairly quickly forgotten.
A lot of people, mind you. If by dislike, or not, the fact it was controversial made it quite relevant. On the opposite, who talks about Banjo XBLA these days, then?
