I can't believe it, but for the first time, EVGA has failed me. That RGB over-design, I can't. The RTX 3080 FE is too strong, I might have to bend to its will.

Those of us with 2080Ti have a bit of a tough choice. 3080 doens't seem worth it, but 3090 is double the cost of 3080.

For those of you saying you're upgrading from your 970/980 (Ti)/1070/1080 (Ti)....are you building a new PC as well?

I have a 6700k and a 1070, but I'm not sure I want to buy a 3080 and pair it with my 6700k. I'm kind of inclined to just wait until Rocket Lake and Zen 3 are out and then put together a new build around December.

Are we sure? Because if the FE 3080 is 719€, I am buying it 100%

Yup I'll buy the 3080, just upgraded to a Ryzen 3800x and 64 gigs of ram plus 2 m.2 nvme drives. This will make my PC a beast once more.

Ugh I bought/built a 2080S system in January and new graphics intensive games haven't even COME OUT for me to push it and now there's a 3080....I'm feeling some type of way right now

This is why I always try to buy within the first year the new cards come out. I'll probably get a 3080 depending on benchmarks and sell my 2080 to my friend for $350 lol.

Given that I have a 1080p monitor and have no intentions of upgrading to 4k right now, should I go with the 3080 or will the 3070 be plenty?

Overclock your CPU and make sure your RAM is running at 3000mhz or higher and you'll be able to get good mileage out of the 3070 for a couple years at least.

This is my plan, though I've always been running the CPU at 4.8ghz. I figure DDR5 will be around when I start looking at upgrades.

My big problem is my monitor is from 2011, it's so old it needs DVI to do 120hz. Looking to grab a 144hz 1440p replacement but g-sync seems to be out of my reach.

I guess the question for me is: Will the FE cooler on the 3080 be good enough? The new design is pretty interesting, and it looks like Nvidia is taking cooling more seriously with this series.

It's time for a new build.

I mean it'll work, but budget for a full upgrade soon if you get a 3070/3080. You'll be bottlenecking if you don't.

Yeah thats what I figured tbh. I've been prepping to start again anyway and the prices of these are certainly making that easier.

Man. Realized that I'm gonna need to upgrade my 600w PSU for a 3080. This sucks.

This is probably so dumb, but how can I ensure that I have the right pin connectors and power supply to upgrade my desktop from a GTX 1080 to a 3080? I never even thought about connectors in the past because I just assumed that everything would be interchangeable (that's how clueless I am).

I'll be interested to see the trajectory of used 2080 TI prices on ebay. lol
Sales as of today already seem to be hitting a price ceiling.

From the AMA:
System performance is impacted by many factors and the impact varies between applications. The impact is typically less than a few percent going from a x16 PCIE 4.0 to x16 PCIE 3.0. CPU selection often has a larger impact on performance. We look forward to new platforms that can fully take advantage of Gen4 capabilities for potential performance increases.

I have a Gen 4 slot but it's good to know that Intel users aren't boned

Looks like no USB C for VR headsets? That's something I figured was for sure included since the 2000 series had them.

Really really bummed that there are no prorder options. I feel like it's going to be extremely difficult to get one of these for a while after launch.

I'll just sit here and wait for the inevitable 3080Ti that will come next year for 999€ or whatever. The performance increase from my 2080Ti to 3080 is not good enough to warrant me spending around 500€ after selling my card and it's not like I really need that performance right now. All I play is Apex at the moment. :P

I'm going from a 1060, and yeah, I'm gonna build a new one, but I'm overdue already. I'm with an I7 4770, the plan is going R5 3600 or 4600 if they announce it before november

Thank god I went for a 850w when I built my pc last summer.

Gonna upgrade my 2070 to a 3080 but will my 9700k at 4.7 ghz bottleneck it?

Anyone have a monitor recommendation to pair up with the 3080?
There are 1440p 240hz IPS panels that will be released shortly. Also you have the new LG 4k 144hz IPS panel just released. A lot of options. Obviously if you play competitive shooters then the new Asus 360hz panel is more down your alley.
