Rainbow Six is an interesting case.
Its opening month was considerably low compared to the heavy hitting titles you see in the top 10. But it has continued to sell quite well each month to the point that unit sales are now quite high. But it is worth noting the game has been discounted a lot. So it doesn't rank as high on the revenue chart as it would on a chart by unit sales.
It's almost a very similar case to Battlefield 4 which also saw heavy discounting.
Are we really gonna use this info to downplay exclusives when Sony increased their forecast twice now because of the performance of their exclusives this year?
Yeah. Don't use sites like these to gauge success of any one game. Chances are, the consensus is way, way off.Hmm.
Halo 5 being number 8 on the X1 is better than I expected to be honest. I always heard that the game wasn't a massive success (relatively).
I don't think it was outside of the most hardcore gaming community. The first game was released so late in Europe that the 360 has been announced.i think that really slowed it down here

Read the thread and you'll see all the exclusives don't matter posts. What's there to downplay? When 3rd party output is nearly identical on both platforms, exclusives are going to help people decide between platforms. This has an impact on which platform 3rd party sales ultimately skew towards.
The performance of Sonys exclusives boosts their outlook because it'll boost their console, service, and 3rd party sales.
Mat said in a follow up tweet, Spidey will make it by next month.Wow... I read God of War did well but I wasn't expecting it to do so well it would lake it into a LTD top 10. That's fantastic, the game really deserve it. Now I hope Spidey will make it too. GOW will remain my GOTY but I really enjoyed my time with spiderman too.
God of war was pretty good in Europe
But check the sales of god war ps4 on all Europe charts
Its massive
It shouldn't be that shocking... What's dominant is MP... And aiming at targets makes for great competitive/cooperative past-time.
It wasn't and even Sony commented about how they tried to make the new one appeal better to Europe.I know the new one did well, but historically the franchise wasn't as big in Europe as the US

Thanks for the context.Btw. When you look at first party vs third party you should always use the 80/20 rule for MS/Sony platforms.
80% of the sales are from third party games. 20% are from 1st party games. The split in the US isn't far off that rule. (Actually both Sony and MS are skewing a bit lower than 20%).
I get that but it would be nice if there were other types of experiences that could bring people together in these big numbers without the need to emulate things/activities that are tools of war, actually kill people, tear families apart and cause real damage in real life.
I wouldn't go as far as to say its indicative of wider issues in society as a whole but when you see it laid out in front of you like this it is slightly concerning. I guess these experiences tap into our primal instincts more than any other type of game available and that's something that will never go away regardless of how far we advance as a species.
For reference, I put this chart together a couple of years ago which shows the rise of shooters in the US.
Poor racing games. Does that include Mario Kart or is that family/casual?

The consensus isn't way off... Halo 5 is clearly isn't a massive success "relatively". Since when does a Halo game sit behind Battlefield and Battlefront?
Not to mention the massive budget H5 had compared to previous entries that outsold it.
I'm not sure what metric someone has to use to argue Halo 5 was relatively a massive success. Relative to what? This list looks a lot like last Gen's list, except Halo's at the opposite end.
Im aware. I agree with you. I'm saying a console specific top 10 list doesn't support the argument that exclusives don't matter.
That's a third person splatter :p
No but seriously, we already have 3 first party games that sold better than Splatoon 2 and that's without any mainline Pokémon. I think there's a very good chance that it will be kicked out of the top 10 by the end of the Switch lifetime.

I think I wanna add something to this:Are we really gonna use this info to downplay exclusives when Sony increased their forecast twice now because of the performance of their exclusives this year?
Oh wow then that is bad. No wonder those games are so few-and-far-between.
Thanks for the info & clarification.
And I'm not really sure what could be done to rectify it either. What kind of game changes would have to occur for the genre to gain more momentum? Possibly, more stuff akin to Forza Horizon and Mario Kart instead of games that lean toward traditional racing? The only racing franchise showing growth is the Forza franchise
Honestly outside of Forza and Mario Kart the genre is mostly dead
Many people in this forum constantly whine about COD. They just cant accept that its still a gargantuan in sales and its going nowhere.Who? Who is saying COD is dead?
Please throw up a link to who is saying such things.
Everything goes full circle. Bring back arcade racing games. And I'm not really sure what could be done to rectify it either. I'm guessing this is physical only? Unless Microsoft has released digital numbers for it.
Yep, I have no doubt in that.
God of War is #7.I'm a bit surprised that neither GOW4 or Uncharted 4 are on either list. Otherwise, sure its not that surprising.
And Zhuge's already said that UC4 would be on the list if bundles were included.

Which place in the TOP10 Destiny should be if combined?Destiny is a funky one... Destiny, Destiny: The Collection and Destiny: The Taken King are all considered separate titles.
No chance. The Uncharted series was at over 41 million copies sold ~1 year ago. God of War isn't close to that.It might be again
God of war was also massive in Europe and had impressive legs in other regions
I'm curious to see the effect the gow3 remastered on plus might have down the line
