I guess Nintendo doesn't need them anymore, now that they don't plan to sell roms for Virtual Console anymore. Wasn't there some proof that the version of Super Mario Bros used on VC was taken from a rom online?
I wonder why they even bother, it's a losing battle, piracy is like a hydra, cut off one of its head and 2 will take its place. So long as they can host their sites in unscrupulous locations, it's never going to change.
Why are those games being destroyed!! Ahh, that hurts!!
I'm pretty sure that's trademarks. But it also makes sense to go after this particular low-hanging fruit rather than allow them to profit from letting people play Nintendo games illegally. Also, don't companies have to go after copyright infringers or they lose some rights, or something? Or am I making this up?

Also I don't think that applies to piracy, only if they were commercializing them.
What does that have to do with anything? That doesn't condone somebody making money by pirating their intellectual property. How many times does Nintendo think people should buy the same game from them?
This is the key. I've seen a few other prominent sites out there with ROMs, but they don't host any games that they've received take-down requests on. I'm guessing these sites were ignoring those requests.IIRC those sites where the only remaining ones hosting first party Nintendo games.
That's new
All illegal counterfeit gameboy games.
Oh ok, I had no clue!
Nintendo is suing websites distributing ROMs illegally. It's piracy.Pretty shitty of nintendo to do this, they're the only publisher that do this. And I assume there's going to be huge backlash in the emulating and pirating scene. Anecdote: One of my buddies in college started pirating nintendo games because of that nintendo take down of emuParadise then moved on to other publishers . His reasoning was spite and to "...what if other developers do the same?!"
after emuparadise was gutted it was only a matter of time before these sites got hit too
I'm confused. It did look like they removed a small handful of titles from there but there's still tons of Nintendo's first party stuff - in fact I don't even know what's missing.
They already did. Capcom and Rockstar were part of the emuparadise rom takedown. His reasoning was spite and to "...what if other developers do the same?!"

And yet people will defend Nintendo for this disgusting act just because it's Nintendo.
Eh, in all likelihood they'll just keep their database but any Nintendo game you'd click would say unavailable.
Hey Nintendo, how bout you... release SNES games on the switch? And make them a worthwhile investment that's not gonna be stuck there and liable to disappear the moment you make a new platform? Better solution.
Nintendo is well within their rights to do this. But, Nintendo, just a thought: I'd LOVE to purchase these games on switch, but you don't seem interested in taking my money for your incredible suite of legacy games.
Checked emuparadise and sure enough, the first party stuff is back there again. Even though the sticky on the forums says it is restricted to upload them.
Weird. :v
Lmao what the fuck is this reasoning.
Those games from SNES are obviously coming to the Switch in the online service after the batch of NES titles.
Maybe im just yelling at a cloud here, but I'm amazed these places still exist? Its not like the SNES romset is still growing. Maybe the classic systems sparked an interest?
You're right about indeterminate, but not necessarily about revenue lost being greater than zero. It's entirely possible that ROM piracy and emulators have actually helped them by keeping these old games relevant. But again, indeterminate, practically indeterminable.Somebody who downloads a rom for non-archival purposes wouldn't necessarily be willing to pay for a legitimate copy of the rom. So the revenue lost is greater than zero, but indeterminate.
That would only work if Nintendo offered said games for free, which obviously isn't happening. The only way you can combat piracy is providing an easier alternative, which Nintendo doesn't seem keen on doing.
Nintendo really should provide a way for people to enjoy these gems legally.
Release NES/SNES Catalog somehow, 99 cent per game. They won't though.
Purchase without a shitty online subscription. And not four years from now after they drip feed ice climbers to us for the 30th time.
GameCube? You're shooting for the moon there buddy. How about NES and SNES?nintendo: our games have a lot of value and piracy shows that our consumers clearly want them
me the consumer: okay so if you recognize that, can you bring Gamecube titles to the Switch so I can buy them?
nintendo: no
I doubt the lawyers doing this for Nintendo aren't involved with putting this content on Switch, and thus shouldn't result in any delay. I have a very hard time seeing this spinned in a bad way for Nintendo but people are obviously doing their best!Oh fuck off Nintendo. Instead of shutting these down, give us all these NES and SNES ROMs on your system. They're kbs for God's sake and it shouldn't be too hard to have them streamed from the cloud already, like many sites do, instead of having to wait years. And have them available for a very attractive price, not $5-10 a game.
And I recall Nintendo using these ROMs for the NES and SNES minis.
Just leave them alone and do your job right.
