Is it outlandish to think that there's also a Lego Mario game being made? Lego makes crossover games ALL THE TIME. A LEGO Mario game seems like a no brainer with this tease.
Yeah, if this was a serious Direct announcement then it would have been incredibly confusing and completely out-of-character for both Nintendo and Lego.

GAME's been selling Lego sets for a while. The Bristol one does, at least. There's even a Lego page on their website.

If the Direct is seriously delayed because of the Coronavirus outbreak then Nintendo should 100% tell people. Keeping coy about it would just be in bad taste imo. It's not like investors aren't going to ask in the meeting later this month so it would be better for them to keep ahead of the curve and be honest here.

How on earth is it 'in bad taste' to not say reason there hasn't been a Direct (there is no delay, there hasn't been a date announced for it to be pushed back)?

I honestly think it's a mixture of Coronavirus and trying to gauge whether BotW2 will make 2020 or not.

If in March 2020, Nintendo still isn't sure if BOTW2 can make it or not in 2020, it just means it won't make 2020.
They could think it can make 2020, and then around June realize it won't make it. But if they're still undecided on its release date right now, it just means it won't make it into this year, and they would know it. They have an internal release date.
these kind of people are insane and think they're entitled to a direct (which mind you, is literally half an hour of nintendo commericals, sometimes an hour)
April Direct means no game until June, that's just how it is
maybe we'll get mario lego labo in May or even late April, but otherwise we're looking at a blank slate until June
