One of the KFCs in Newcastle has had these for like 6 months, they're way less good than fries :(

Had em twice now and not sure what I feel. They're an improvement, but I don't know if they're enough of one. The relative lack of them in a snack box is also a let down.

My local kebab shop does the best chips, you get a massive box of them for £1. I have no idea how big chains cant get chips right.

Chip shops don't need to make as many chips as fast food places so they can actually make better ones. It's why the servings are way bigger and the chips are nicer to boot.

When I was at secondary school, a bunch of us would go to the local chippy and I'd get chips drowned in chili sauce. That was heaven in a polystyrene package for fifteen year old me.

Had these yesterday and I really do prefer the older french fries to the newer chips. The new ones just seem like a mediocre attempt at chips whilst the fries were at least decent attempts at fries. You also 'feel' like you're getting fewer chips/fries for your money; ordered a Snack Box and I couldn't help but feel that the chip serving was way too small.

That's orange juice dude

If you try drinking that like orange juice then you'd be in for a nasty surprise.

An American would call that gelatin. An american would also go to the supermarket and see the following two products on the shelf right next to each other:

395774082_46b9f717c6hqiow.jpg

What would you call the product on the right?
Pretty sure we'd call it jelly as well. That said I don't think I've ever seen grape jam/jelly on a shelf in the UK.
But WHAT? Jelly is Jell-o?

You Americans are so obsessed with adverts that you have to name everything after a brand name.

Tried them a few days ago, an improvement over the '2013 fries' I feel.

I have to say I dislike the BK fries the most out of the big three, hard to describe why but I think it's the coating, gives it a strange taste and texture.

Ok so it's juice concentrate. Yeah we have that too, except nobody drinks it because it sucks
JuiceConcentrate_orange.png
Nah, it's not pretending to be fruit juice. It's a non-carbonated soft drink that comes in concentrated form. I don't know if you have that "flavoured bottled water" bullshit over there, but a bit like that, but you dilute it yourself to taste.

Out of curiosity, what would you Americans call these:

They're nothing like potato wedges by the way.

They're fries but when ordered as part of a fish and chips meal they are chips. It is the fish that transforms them. Also it is rare that fried potatoes come in that specific style in any other context here, the closest analogue is steak fries

That makes no sense. I can buy those with pretty much any meal in the UK and they won't be any difference than when I buy them with fish.

Would you not distinguish between these two images then? Because if I were to order fries and receive the second type I'd be pissed off. They're really quite different.

In the US our fried potatoes cover a range of items, not even counting breakfast potatoes. Honestly, it's a crap shoot what you'll get at a place that sells Fish and Chips, typically somewhere in the French Fry/Steak Fry realm. I lived in Dublin for a while and I do miss a big ole greasy bag of chips with salt and vinegar from the chipper. But our fry tradition is generally more in line with Netherlands/Belgium/France Frites than UK chips.

Shoestring Fries:

French Fries:

Curly Fries:

Steak Fries (generally the closest to UK/Irish Chips but never sold by the bag to takeaway):

I admire the work in that list.
But they are chips

I'll not have your people wronging the world o n what chips and crisps are. Those are Fries. Potato Chips are Chips. Look, we're willing to work with you. We pretty much use the standard metric system now, and we're slowly moving to Celsius, but you're not changing our minds on Soccer or what a Chip is.

Don't be rude.

For your information, I don't call all gelatin Jello. But it is the most popular example of "fruit flavored gelatin," and had similar consistency with the object quoted in the post I was quoting, which is named "jelly" but had a completely different consistency from what is considered "jelly" in the US.

Ok non American folks here. We're willing to negotiate here.

American Football will take the name Football
Football, like your MU, will be known as Soccer
What you call Crisps, will be known as Chips
What you call Chips, will be known in some form as shown in post https://www.resetera.com/threads/new-kfc-uk-chips.80910/page-6#post-15225835, Fries

IN EXCHANGE for these demands. We will convert on the following
We will convert to Imperial Units
We will also convert to Celsius
We will call Jello, Jelly in order to remove the Cosby stigma
We're also up for suggestions on renaming our Subway Brand, and the word Pudding due to Jared and Cosby stigmas.

I feel this is a fair exchange.

I will fucking fight you.

A country that can't spell aluminium, drops the 'u' in colour, pronounces niche as 'pitch' and generally can't grasp that concept of 'couldn't care less' instead always saying 'could care less', is in absolutely no position to negotiate such terms.

They ruined KFC fries around the same time the ruined the KFC gravy here in the UK.

Early 2000's they changed things and have been awful since.

Shame there's no Christmas TLO, but the Dirty Louisiana just being removed from the menu makes up for that as far as I'm concerned.

I really hate these new chips. The old ones weren't brilliant, but these ones are so damn soggy and limp. I already disliked fat chips for this reason and this change has done nothing to quell my hatred of them. Much prefer skinny chips.

Damn, these look nice. Does anyone know what the proper name for them is? I don't want to walk in to Tesco and get funny looks when I ask for "tater tots".

A few comments:
- We will convert to Imperial Units: You're already on imperial units...
- We will call Jello, Jelly in order to remove the Cosby stigma: The rest of the world has no Cosby stigma, so no thanks.
- We're also up for suggestions on renaming our Subway Brand, and the word Pudding due to Jared and Cosby stigmas: See previous point.
- American Football will take the name Football: About world population - US population number of people disagree, so nah.

I'm kind of with you on the chips and crisps thing. (But knowing you'll get "chips" instead of proper fries is kind of handy too...)

Lol.All this talk of names for food getting americans confused. Wait until they hear about the great breadcake/bap/cob/etc war. That fucking thing is called something else if you travel a few miles down the motorway.

This is True. It is the war to end all wars not even Brexit has divided the Country more than the tea cake/bap/roll argument.

My friends in Yorkshire call them tea cakes. First time I asked if they wanted thier bacon on a bap all hell broke loose.

A bacon tea cake o_O who the hell asks for a bacon tea cake.
