Woj said:
Agent Rich Paul has notified the New Orleans Pelicans that All-NBA forward Anthony Davis has no intention of signing a contract extension if and when presented and that he has requested a trade, Paul told ESPN on Monday.

ESPN said:
Davis is eligible to sign a five-year, $240 million supermax extension this summer. He can become a free agent in the summer of 2020. New Orleans has expressed no desire to trade him prior to the Feb. 7 trade deadline.

Davis' declaration on wanting out now gives teams other than the Boston Celtics a head start in pursuing trades for him. Restricted by the Rose Rule, Boston cannot trade for Davis until July 1 because league rules wouldn't allow both Kyrie Irving's and Davis' contracts under the provision on the roster together. Irving becomes a free agent on July 1.

Boston could agree to a Davis trade prior to July 1 that isn't finalized until after that date.

This is an opportunity for the Los Angeles Lakers to be aggressive in offering a package for Davis prior to Boston's inclusion into talks. Paul also represents Lakers star LeBron James, and the Lakers have been determined to acquire Davis in a deal, league sources said

Get the best deal that you can. Right now that might be the Celtics if they still want him.

Brooklyn
New Orleans really about to lose Boogie and AD in back-to-back years. Hold onto Randle and never let go, Pelicans faithfuls!

Y'all foolish if you think Pelicans are just going to turn into the Lakers minus LeBron.

They aren't trading AD for the bum ass young dudes the Lakers have, two of those dudes are straight f*ck boys (kuzma and ball) that will want out of NOP as fast as possible anyways.

Anything revolving Tatum and picks is light years over what Lakers can offer . Cs are in the drivers seat.

You must be new to the NBA. Crazier things have happened. Not saying that you're wrong, but you're not necessarily right.

I don't think the Celtics can trade for Davis unless Kyrie is included, or they wait until the offseason and don't resign Kyrie.

This is true. Called the rose rule.
Nola has no incentive to trade him now. Boston has some of the most assets but would have to wait till off-season. If rich Paul wants to play games then Nola could just trade him somewhere like phila if they get pissed and feel like LeBron is tampering via rich Paul.

Lakers. All the daytime talking sports heads predicted this a month ago.

LeGreatest and AD have the same agent so this is probably a done deal.

Small market teams prefer draft picks to rebuild so the Pels trading AD to the Celtics for either 76ers's or Sac Town's 2019 1st round picks (plus Hayward probably) is the most likely scenario for me.

Pelicans aren't rushing anything anyways. Trade deadline is only 10 days away. They'll wait till offseason

Pelicans would have to be stupid to trade with a team in their conference that has any worthwhile All-Star calibre players. AD together with Lebron? Just profoundly stupid.

I am LOVING everyone in Boston pushing the narrative that the Pels HAVE to wait until the summer to trade him. Deal with the fact that your pet plan may not work out like adults, geez.

No surprise about the trade demand. Let's see who is willing to take a big risk and trade for Davis. Probably in the off-season. A bidding war would suit the Pelicans and the longer they wait the better for that. One year on the contract should be a good enough term for a trade.

So Pelicans are the Lakers from last season minus Ball, smh... no. Pelicans will want decent picks

The second year of his deal is a player option so no, they won't get great picks unless he promises to resign with the team in question. The Suns, for example, aren't going to trade away a potential Zion/Barrett pick for one season of disgruntled play with nothing to show for it after.
