The conservatives that I know are mostly talking about this and not really talking about Trump's speech at all. I don't know if it was intentional but by ripping up a few pieces a paper, she completely took the attention away from anything Trump said last night.

Quoting this again so people can understand the point of this. Dems are controlling the narrative. Say what you want about Pelosi's past leadership, this was a good move.

Shocking, more childish behavior from our government from top to bottom; our pres is bad enough.... this is just what we should all want from them and praise in the biggest moments.

I'm so glad to hear you are above this pettiness, but for the other 95% of mouth-breathing, click-bait sharing morons that make up our voting population, this is what they understand and consume. You want to appeal to the dumbass voters, do dumbass things that get their attention.

She should of done the same with the military budget she approved a few weeks back but hard to make gifs of that moment I guess.

She never ceases to impress me. I would never imagine a congresswoman or man tearing up documents on the floor would look so graceful or be so impactful. She knows what she is doing. She know how to generate buzz. She knows how to get inside Trump's head. This makes me happy. Nobody is going to be talking about the state of the union speech anymore. This is what they will be talking about.

I need to stay away from my facebook. I have people I grew up with whom I'm just going to have to unfriend at this point, because their Trump love is getting to be too much. I respect someone's right to their vote, but the shit I saw last night was infuriating. Here are some actual quotes...

I responded to some because I just couldn't take the hypocrisy. I mentioned how Boehner would never stand and applaud for Obama, and let's not forget how the Republicans stood and cheered when President Obama said he had no more elections to run. Yeah, that wasn't rude at all. That was perfectly fine because it was the fucking reds doing it. Thankfully Obama had a sick burn for them when they pulled that crap. How about when President Obama was called a liar in the middle of his speech. I'm sickened by the this country and embarrassed for those I once called friends. So much blindness, racism and carelessness.

I left last night and went to Starbucks till they closed because I couldn't stand my dad, mom and brother being straight up jackasses listening to the vomit that was coming out of the TV speakers last night.

Every morning at 6am I get woken up by my dad reading all his political crap and yelling at his compute (like he's doing right now).

So can't wait until April when I can leave this fucking house.

He actually called me brainwashed a few weeks ago, but I'm not the one who reads this shit all day, listens to it on the radio in the car or in the garage, and listens to pod casts at night when sleeping.

These people are fucked up in the head and I don't care if they're family or friends. They've been brainwashed into joining a cult and they don't want help.

It's turned my dad, who was once a great guy to get along with, into an insurable asshole who I can't stand to be in the same room with.

I thought it was great.

Republicans and Trump had been spitting on Obama's legacy and the truth all night. They even broke out into "4 more years!" chants at the very beginning, which is surprisingly getting little attention. So I'm glad Pelosi showed some grit and street fight. If you want to play fast and loose with the truth in a speech, then your speech might get ripped up on national TV. Trump forgot, he's a guest of the Speaker of the House, there at her invitation. He's not King.

If Republicans want decorum observed then they should reign in their President. As a side benefit, it's great that Pelosi has successfully stole the narrative of his speech. Everyone is discussing whether they love / hate Pelosi's paper shredding, rather than Trump's attempt at turning the SOTU into a game show and campaign rally.

People seriously need to shut the fuck up about civility and decorum. Neither of those things matter when the other side is so fucking vile and hell bent on destroying our democracy for the sake of the wealthiest in our nation. And no one gives a shit about how Fox News or Trump supporters will spin this. It's time that Democrats show some passionate anger and genuine disgust towards the racist orangutan in the White House.

If it stops the media from reporting Trumps blatant lies then it's good strategy in my book. Dude doesn't deserve the spotlight to spew his bullshit, and thanks to Pelosi he didn't get it.

So sorry. Sounds like it sucks. I don't know any hardcore Trump Cult supporters and I still have a hard time believing they are real. Can't even imagine if my family was like that. Glad you are getting out.

Have you sat down and talked about this at all with them? Not politics, but your familial relationships?

I know it's stating the obvious, but relationships of all types are a give and take thing. My father has been a state rep for years and he is very conservative, (as is my mother) however, I'm very moderate; we clash politically because I take a left view on many social issues that he could never agree with.

My old man, loves to talk politics and ramble on about it, however, I've stopped him and explained that our political opinions are rarely going to align, so our dynamic doesn't include his preaching anymore. If he wants my opinion I will gladly share, however, I will not let that (politics) define our relationship; he is an old stubborn a$$ of a righty, but he is my FATHER first and foremost.

It doesn't matter. If they have no real actions to point to, Fox and the GOP just make something up. Look at how effective the ridiculous outrage over Obama's tan suit or use of Dijon mustard was.

That narrative has been going on for years, and will continue unrelentingly no matter what.

Not doing anything feeds their MAGA narrative. Doing something feeds their MAGA narrative.

They can go throw rocks at the wall.
Exactly, it's either the 'Do nothing Democrats.' or it's 'So much for the tolerant left.'.

There's no right way to do it with these fucks, fuck them and fuck whatever perception they have of anyone in the left, what they think is irrelevant as it will always be wrong, no matter what they do.

I'm actually 37, I'm back at home because I'm getting help for anxiety and PTSD from my time in the military. It's actually gotten worse since I got here (most of which is caused by the constant yelling and screaming that goes on daily), which is why I'm moving back to South Dakota to be with my fiancee in April. We're getting married in June and were planning on moving out west, but the move is going to be pushed back a year until we can get some money saved up.

He doesn't want to talk politics, he wants to shut up anyone who isn't a Trump supporting conservative. I'm not allowed to have an opinion. Every time we do have a discussion, it just turns into him screaming at me and telling me that I'm brainwashed. He's fully adopted the mindset that anyone who is a liberal is his enemy and their mindset must be stamped out. I'm a person who like to avoid conflict, so I just shut up and do my own thing, there's enough conflict in this house between the constant arguing that goes on between my mom, my dad and my brother (this house is dysfunctional as hell).

The only reason I'm staying until April is so that I can spend a week in March with my son, who lives in Southern California, otherwise I would have left already.

Trump supporters love that he's a "counter puncher," but when it happens in the other direction, it's appalling and disrespectful.

The hypocrisy is never ending.

Yesh, yeah, sorry bruh. That is a whole different animal of family dynamic. They should understand where your at and try to help.

My bro did his 20 in the Corps and suffers many of the same issues from his many deployments to Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan, so I understand that part very well (if only we could get him to talk about it more, because the few things he has blurted out randomly, my God, he needs to talk about that shit) but he has handled it very well overall. Thankfully, he doesn't live at home either because I could see him having the same issues living there, however, my old man is not a huge Trump guy, but of course, will support the "company line" because our country can't seen to accept a moderate view on things at all; there is a huge divide right now where you have to pick a side rather than view things rationally.

Hopefully, you can get out of there and get to a more comfortable spot soon with your fiance' soon. Also, use those VA benefits the best you can and try to find some vet support groups in your area to spend time with to side your time until you can reunite with your fiance'.

Regardless, we don't say it enough, especially the younger ones that don't understand completely, but Thank You for your service.

The only way to right this wrong is to elect AOC in the future and go HAM with the full backing of dems (sigh). If she is ever Prez, she has go go nuclear on progressive agenda full stop, not cave on inch.

I know. Easy to dream but I'm sick of this nightmare. I'd rather have good dreams for once.

Does the fact that she tore up the speech really erase the fact that she not only invited the devil to the room but also tried to shake his hand before he started speaking?

It's not as if while she was sitting there listening to the speech that Pelosi finally had some grand revelation about what Trump is all about.

I'm so sorry. Your environment sounds like it nourishes anxiety. I don't have military experience, but do not underestimate trauma that can be caused by a toxic, unsafe environment. I imagine it an be as destructive as PTSD from service.

I recommend that you no longer engage. And wear headphones/put on music to drown out their misery.

Any reason why you can't leave next week? Why April?

All the 'I'm above everyone so i'll condemn this behavior' type of attitude is pathetic. Imagery and symbolism is one of the most effective means to communicate when a direct approach isn't possible, especially in politics. She took the moment and seized it. Ripping up paper does not mean society is going down in flames.

We're tired of Pelosi's resistance only happening when it least matters. I can't even say "fuck it, I don't want to live on this planet any more" and blast off like in Futurama because the space force will shoot me down now for violating American airspace spacespace
