Really enjoyed the new episode. Great blending of super tense sequences and character work. No idea where this is all gonna go but at the very least it will be damn exciting to watch.

Something that's bothering me -

post credits scene at the end of season 3 had Vera strolling right up to Elliot's place with his boys.

Where's the continuity here? You would habe thought this would have lead into season 4 like the cold opening did with Pryce and Angela, but it's not addressed at all.

and Esmail appearing feels like more than a cameo. Getting Stephen King inserting himself into the Dark Tower for plot vibes.

Incredible premiere.

Angela isn't dead.

Sam has said that Vera will be a critical part of this season.

That transition from the previously on into the episode proper was some slick shit. I was just thinking to myself as the scene went on "hey I don't remember this at all from last season!".

The camera work and framing in this show continues to astound me.

Read something very neat. This episode is very much an amalgamation of previous season openers, but with the interesting twist of character development that changes the stakes and context of the story.

S1E1: When Elliot hacked Rohit Mehta, exposed his child porn server to the FBI, and told him that he didn't give a shit about money when Rohit tried to buy his silence.
S4E1: Elliot hacked Freddy Lomax, threatened to expose webcam video of him jerking off to an unsuspected teenager. Elliot mentioned that he didn't give a shit about money, but even more scary, Elliot didn't give a shit about this man's life. He didn't care if he ended up dead as long as Elliot got what he wanted.

S2E1: Darlene and fsociety hacked Susan Jacobs' home, and throws a party while having a mental breakdown over the pressure of being fsociety's leader. Elliot shuts out Mr. Robot as a way to control him and regain control over his own consciousness.
S4E1: Darlene suffers from a mental breakdown after Angela's death. The party is a way to distract her, but at the same time, she rages out on people tampering with Angela's paraphernalia. Elliot is now shutting everyone (including Mr. Robot) out of an inability to process Angela's death.

S3E1: We go through what happened to Elliot when he got shot by Tyrell Wellick, and figuring out what Stage 2 is.
S4E1: We go in the reverse and start a countdown towards Elliot's potential death. Elliot doesn't care about what the Dark Army wants anymore. He wants them to be destroyed.

Is there any legal way to view this without resorting to torrenting? I missed the episode last night and wanted to get caught up, but couldn't really find if it was available next day anywhere.

Also, hol-eeeee shit. What a ride. I was confused at the beginning for a bit thinking it was still in recap mode, then it drops the hammer. Fucking genius.

My God what a premiere. This totally has potential to be series of the year, and we got The Deuce, Mindhunter, The OA and Too Old To Die Young in 2019. Incredible.

Still hurts my heart the oa got canceled. And yet they got the I-land show that was utter shit. Netflix sucks at concluding their own original shows.

iTunes. I bought a season pass since I'm away from home.

Great first episode, the first scene with Angela was so well played. It's scary how calculating Mr. Robot is when he's operating in fusion mode. I expect lots of fake outs before this all comes to an end.

That slick transition from the recap to the start of the episode was great shit.

But holy fuck, Angela dead already, JFC. That was honestly heartbreaking to see unfold, the minute he took off that wire, you knew it was immediately over. There wasn't gonna be a few episodes of her trying to do something, anything, it's just over. Can't even get that mad at it though, it makes the stakes extremely clear, and tbh, Angela doesn't really have any useful skills that would help stop Whiterose beyond listening to whatever much smarter people tell her to do.

But damn at them really making me think for a second that the show would be bold enough to kill Elliot. You just keep waiting for someone to spare him at the last second, but it just kept going. I thought that hey, we'll see next week what happens, but using the credits to revive him right afterwards was genius. Never thought I'd be down for a team up with Price, but here we are.

Glorious premiere, S4 starting off on the right foot.

Speaking of sick transitions. I can't find a gif of it, but this right here when Elliot tuned out and let Mr. Robot talk to Darlene was super slick.

The opening scene transitioning directly from the recap into brand new material is going to be legendary and copied a lot in the next decade.

Speaking of direction, I think Price's phone call with Whiterose is the first time the show has used a shakey handheld cam.

Look at the ceiling in that scene.

Esmail seemed to deliberately doing a lot of very non-Mr. Robot camera shots this episode, might've been to represent that Price, Tyrell, Elliot and Darlene's mental states are all completely trainwrecked.

They used a lot of handheld cam in this episode.

It was a strange mix of shakycam... gyro... thing.

Dom's scene when she had the gun was a pretty jarring mix of shaky cam but stabilized with gyro. A lot of the camera work is being used to bring forward peoples basically ruined lives and how fucked up they are by this point.

Oh absolutely. I knew why he was doing it. And it made it more impactful that he hadn't really until now. The direction in this show is some of the best in the industry. Up there with Better Call Saul.

White Rose's hitmen go to all the effort and don't wait another 30 seconds to make sure he is dead.

Don't think they belonged to her, the honeypot seemed to be E-corps and set up by Price. Whiterose uses true fanatics that will kill themselves if ordered like we've seen before, I don't think Price just magically showed up and swayed them.

Oh yeah we are back in business

Angela death hit hard but in the end I think it made Price have the gut to take the chance and save Elliot and try to bring Whiterose down

Were they always allowed to say fuck as much as they want on this USA show? I can't quite remember how it was in earlier seasons.

Well, good thing this the last season lol

At least they have 13 episodes to wrap it all up, and unlike other shows it feels like the show should be able to have an awesome conclusion with the time left without it feeling rushed.

But it's always been a crime how under the radar Mr. Robot has been, it's one of the best TV shows ever made.
