Everytime I see people saying stuff like "not worth it because the sequel is better in every way" I scratch my head.
Like, do we not play older games that aren't as good as recent games? Do we only play the one best game in each franchise? Because Stories 2 is better, therefore the first one is not worth playing? Oh, Suikoden 2 is better than Suikoden in every way, so don't play that. Really? This was always such a strange way of thinking to me.
As a general thing, I've seen this as well. I've seen people be entirely turned off by most games pre PS4/XB1. It's a strange attitude to have since entire franchises and proliferation of genres were built off old games.
With that said, I do think the first game has had a history of being late to arrive. When the Japanese 3DS game launched back in 2016 there was no hype for it by the rest of the Monster Hunter Community in Japan or abroad. I recall alot of fans refusing to acknowledge it as a true Monster Hunter game. When news of the localization and release hit toward the tail end of 3DS, there still wasn't any hype for it. No marketing from Capcom. The closest we got was a 3DS trailer or two. I've always considered the game to be a niche product because of those impression. Hence why it never got those big updates the Japanese version got. The sales to justify further content just wasn't there.
Now a re-release is coming a couple years after the sequel dropped in 2021. Once again this is coming quite late, at the tail end of Nintendo Switch no less. I'm definitely excited for this, and I'll be rebuying it sooner rather than later. It's always been a charming game for me. This subseries needs all the support it can get, even with the new interest the second game generated.
Any word on amiibo compatibility?
I want to know this too! If so, can we expect an actual release of the original Amiibo....and maybe a reprint of the others for the second game? 😗
