Oh, shit! I guess I can uninstall that android port from my phone... it'll be a lot nicer on my Steam Deck anyway.

They showed the DLC monsties (Rajang, Kushala Daora and Teostra) so it actually seems like the final version of the game is finally getting localized.

Yeah, awesome to see they finally brought over the big post-game update. It seems like they did a lot of work on this remaster with adding full VO, so that makes me wonder if they're also rebalancing the gameplay to be more in line with 2 and not the more random flow of the original.

This is so late

Stories 2 is such an improvement it kinda makes me question if it's even worth going back

Why did Capcom drag their ass on this

Everytime I see people saying stuff like "not worth it because the sequel is better in every way" I scratch my head.

Like, do we not play older games that aren't as good as recent games? Do we only play the one best game in each franchise? Because Stories 2 is better, therefore the first one is not worth playing? Oh, Suikoden 2 is better than Suikoden in every way, so don't play that. Really? This was always such a strange way of thinking to me.

Yeah, while I love the idea of playing this in HD (the mobile version was always tempting despite no gamepad controls), this feels like a game that would be really hard to go back to after playing the sequel.

I'm assuming it'll be digital only in Europe for sure, maybe get a physical release in North American which could also potentially be exclusive to Switch, but hopefully a full retail release in Japan?

Dude, this is Era, people hate playing games that were released last year let alone games released generations ago sadly.

Im totally there for probably all the ports though lol. I love that Capcom keeps releasing their games on newer platforms (which... I thought people wanted for preservation/availability sake?!)

This franchise would be amazing if it was remotely challenging. I understand that this is not important to everyone.
Challenge though can make a lot of games better for me. The concepts and gameplay here are good.

I agree - well, agree they should be harder. Same complaint I have about the Yakuza series (all of them, 8 at the moment is so easy Im going around with no gear lol)
I really wish we'd at least get hard modes or modifiers for more challenge.

This is how I know you not familiar with the MH Stories series

The second game is a marked improvement in every way. This game is basically a proof of a concept now since everything is so simplistic in comparison to the sequel. My opinion is not stopping you from buying and purchasing this title.

The point I'm making is that if Capcom was going to make a decision like this, it was better suited years ago when the MH Stories mobile port basically failed.

I actually have played both games. I agree that the sequel is much better (terrible performance issues aside), but the original game is still a decent game and worth playing if you want more of that world and concept. It really is as simple as that.

Going back to a simpler game after playing an improved sequel is not a novel concept at all. Back in the day, I played Yakuza 2 and really enjoyed. Then I went back and played the original for the first time and still enjoyed it, even though the sequel was better in every way. This is just one example of a really common thing to do, which is going back to games that are not as good as their sequels.

And of course your opinion isn't stopping me from buying the game. I'll probably won't buy it in the first place, and was just expressing my befuddlement of what some times is said about going back to inferior games. Not even mentioning people who have the second game on the backlog and now might want to play the original first.

Disagree. I prefer 1's combo system, element swapping, and grid limits. And its character stories. And its maps.

That Xbox skip hurts, but then it weirdly doesn't as much because I have little hopes for the console going forward anyway.

Tried the demo on 3DS and really liked it. Will play one day, maybe on PC!

How good is it? Always was curious about this JRPG side of MH series.
It's good, but it's also the kind of game where a superior sequel exists that kinda makes it tough to recommend over that one on nearly every facet. They do tell very different stories in the end, though, so if that is a big selling point, then I'd say it's easily worth a look and if for nothing else, them finally localizing all the additional content Japan got geared towards the post-game means we all get the chance to experience something fresh together.

Loved this game back in '17, put 94 hours into it! Glad it's getting a remaster, hopefully more people play it and it's sequel (which I still need to beat)

A re-release has a higher chance of bringing some QoL features from the sequel.

At least it has the voiced lines and higher fidelity graphics

Just to clarify, I'm not against playing old games or re-releases (I think vast majority of older games are better than modern releases)

Im criticizing Capcom being super late with this port. I was initially surprised that MH Stories did well enough to even get a sequel, but I feel this port is late by 4 years or so

I'm pumped! Loved this game back on the 3DS and was bummed we never got the last batch of content in the West. Personally I preferred this to the sequel because 2 smoothed out the rough edges a bit too much to the point where it got a bit boring. This one has a better story too. I'll miss some of the QOL changes from 2 though.

I hope by fully voiced they just mean the dub is an option. I used the Monster Hunter language in the original and was bummed when they replaced it with an annoying dub in the sequel

I hope this comes with major combat rebalancing, because people coming from the second game to the first game are going to bounce off HARD about halfway through, once they realize that late game combat in the first game is basically a RNG-fest coin flip on whether or not you'll successfully win a head to head, let alone successfully trigger a trap, since enemies don't have set patterns like in the second game. IIRC there were significantly more un-counterable untyped moves too, typically ranged attacks. The situation was so bad that IIRC there were items that give invincibility for a few hits, and the rider was really weak in the first game too. Stories 2 had something like a 50/50 or 60/40 monster and rider power ratio, Stories 1 is something like 75/25. I remember people saying that you should always use sword and shield at endgame for the extra bulk, because trying to go for a more offense rider build wasn't worth it when some endgame enemies can one-shot your rider in the event that they lose a head to head (and even if you won a head to head, you were probably still at risk of getting wrecked later in the same turn, due to bad RNG against enemies with multiple actions per turn).

Not to mention the gene system not letting you slot the gene you want to pass to another monster in any slot (in the first game, they are locked to the position on the grid that they are generated in, whereas Stories 2 had a major QOL in letting you move the inherited gene anywhere on the receiving monster's grid), so the actual customization was something you only did at endgame if you didn't want to waste anything.

Does anyone know if this includes Ver. 1.2 and 1.3 content? (especially the post-game towers). They used to be exclusive to the JP 3DS version for some reason…

Is this the same as the version on Apple Arcade? How different is that one?

Monster Hunter Stories is getting a Switch remaster this summer

Monster Hunter Stories, Capcom's first - and wonderfully successful - stab at adapting the series' classic monster batt…

Hyped as hell for that

Yep! The web page confirmed it in the best way with a group shot of Kushala, Teostra, and Rajang.
Oh wow, what a pleasant surprise! I was worried this would be another Onimusha situation.
It's day one for me then. Thanks for letting me know.
