Still mad that I can put my 2010 RDR disc into my Xbox One and BOOM it's now rendered at 4K with 16xAF.

Amazing.

Yes, this is surprisingly a big selling point, especially in the context if someone ALREADY owns a PS4/Pro (as a differentiating factor).

These are the only real exclusives the 1X HAS. RDR 4K, Forza Horizon 4K, Gears 2/3, Halo 3...you literally cannot get these anywhere else at 4K, not even PC.

What I love about this incentive is that it's not going to stop. Microsoft's so invested in XBox being a platform, not a console, that they're eventually going to have enhanced patches for just about every major game, and we'll presumably get to carry them into the next generation, and the one after that, etc.

Mirror's Edge looks shockingly good, and I really prefer having the core mobility options actually there at the start of the game, as opposed to having them slowly drip-fed in the sequel.

I was streaming, so I didn't get a screen-cap (unfortunately, I passed up a lot of really nice moments), but I noticed they have the colored bounce-lighting affecting the characters you'll sometimes run into for story missions. I'm sure it's faked, but it's still really convincing. LoD hold up pretty far out, as well.

maybe im misremembering/dogpiling/hating but does this in 4k look better than the second game?

If Microsoft ever work out how to unlock the framerate on these old games and carry all these improvements forward to future consoles.... my God.

The second game is open world and has a shit load of post processing that damages the ultra clear look of the first. Mirrors Edge one cleaned up to 4K definitely looks as good or better than the second. Technically the second is way more advanced but I prefer the look of the first.

No. The sequel/reboot has much better lighting, textures, shaders, and so on. The original Mirror's Edge is quite notable for having crappy looking baked shadows like so many other Unreal 3 games of that era. (Looking at you, Mass Effect 1/2/3.)

I'm waiting till after E3 but I'm really considering an xbox one x now. Being able to play 3 generations worth of games is no joke especially when they are supporting no-name games like the godlike gem Breakdown. I would never EVER think they would get that on there, original xbox had so many god damn gems like that game.

Whoa whoa whoa. Did I miss something? Is Breakdown BC now too?

Oh shit, just noticed ssx 3 on the list. Curious to see how it looks.

Would LOOOOOVE to get to play this again

That game was so good, put Yeti and Takashi on your team and heaven help any poor guy trying to score inside on you.

Unfortunately licensing issues mean I doubt we'll ever get this or Def Jam: Fight for NY.

Can't hear this song without thinking of NBA Street Vol. 2 :(

It's actually insane how quickly they have expanded their library of top tier 4K 360 games:

Forza Horizon
Halo 3
Fallout 3
Witcher 2
Portal 2
Gears 2
Gears 3
Mirror's Edge
Red Dead Redemption
Oblivion

I mean damn, I just need Lost Odyssey and Reach and that covers pretty much everything for me.

What are the chances that we'll see a 4K enhanced Xbox 360 game running 60fps? Like Bayonetta.

Does X1X have the horsepower needed for this?

As MS don't touch the code the game must have allowed those kind of fps already one the 360 or needed to have an uncapped frame rate.

Yeah, I know. But I don't think there's been any 60fps game (like Bayonetta) having the 4K enhanced treatment.

Is this because X1X couldn't handle emulating X360 games in 4K/60fps?

This move by Microsoft does make their platform more appealing. I recently started collecting for the Xbox platformwith the OG games so it's great to know that they will be future proofed.

Just tried RDR and Gears 2, both look off the charts. To be hones there hasn't been any 4K 360 game I've tried where I haven't been impressed. I wonder if they'll patch Gears 1 or Gears Ultimate?

EA does have the NBA license, the business relationships, and money to make it happen as well as long term incentive to increase their library in EA Access. It's definitely a longshot but EA may be receptive to it.
Oh I'm talking about the music and the players. Many of the players are no longer under the NBA fold and would require separate contracts.

I got my Xbox One X last week and I'm very impressed. I didn't expect so much from a native res bump, a change in LODs and whatever else they do.

I'm enjoying Skate 3 at the moment and I will likely jump into Red Dead Redemption this weekend.

I wonder what the stipulations would be though since this isn't a new release or anything, just a patch. I mean you would think SSX 3 would have licensing issues with all the music used in the game but maybe since it's just an update it's not a big deal? One can hope lol.

Well the 2nd one has a lot of post processing and it's open world so there's a lot of LOD going on for objects in distance whereas in the first game the objects in distance were background objects so didn't have as much LOD changes. Plus the first game is entirely using prebaked lighting, GI and shadows whereas in 2nd game it's all real time so there are some areas where it will look worse in terms of quality.

Love it, wish Sony did more in this front, but personally I always look for the new games, so I dont use it as much. I appreciate that MS are doing this, as I can see how great theyre doing.

It won't sell me on buying an Xbox One X, but I still applaud Microsoft for this move (I have a bunch of 360 games I'd love to see at higher res, but no time to play them again). It's pretty cool and really how things should be in terms of backwards compatibility.

Isn't it harder for Sony to pull this off, even if they wanted to, due to architectural differences on the GPU front, not to mention the SPUs on the Cell?

X has the horse power because thus far it can run games at 9 times the 360 resolution AND still offer better framerates than 360.

So all things point to if 360 managed to run a game at 720p60 X will run it at 4k and closer to 60.

This is seriously impressive.
First time I'm missing my xbox one since I sold it some years ago.

These free and great upgrades are making me want to pop in some of my Xbox 360 games right now.

Really hope for something similar on the next Xbox and Playstation.

I think this is a myth , the PS3 and 360 's Cell and Xenon aren't a world apart.

But part of how this is possible is that the Xbox One has some custom silicon to deal with some very specific BC stuff.

Architecture wise yes, but since they have PSNow I don't see why they couldn't let you stream/play the PS3 games you already paid for on PS3 or have physical copies of. Unless they already do that.
