I tried the demo earlier. The sprite work is great. No controller support in the demo is a shame. So far the only thing I don't like is that you can't fire weapons diagonally on the ground or from the top of buildings down on the enemy which is weird. Most tactics games allow you to do this.

I suppose it's a funny way of translating the way you can only aim in cardinal directions with most weapons in the original game.

Beat the demo on the default Recuit difficulty which admitedly was pretty easy. I haven't played Into the Breach so I can't compare the two.

- Demo had 1 region/mission sets unlocked (out of 4 in the full game).
- Nothing carries over between starting a region. Instead, you get credit to unlock more of a character's weapons, mods and skills.
- Every time you start a new region, you can select your initial loadout.
- Your characters start at level 1. As you complete missions in a region, you get exp to level up, which allows you to pick a skill or passive. Some mission rewards additional upgrades to pick too.
- Game is closer to Deadcells than Hades in terms of the rogue-like progression. There's no permanent passive upgrades other than more options for your initial loadout(?).
- Targeting is very strict as every attack is cardinal and a certain range of tiles. Positioning is super important, especially if you want to take advantage of sync attacks.

The lack of character voices and mild sound effects is unfortunate. The game just sounds very muted to me.

Overall, it was fun seeing the old metal slug crew again looking better than ever.

Tbf release is a while out. Also they've confirmed 9 characters for the roster so I'm sure the additional 5 will shake things a lot(especially considering what they could do with the Ikari warriors Trio). Assuming it is the other 5 characters from the numbered games

Reading the Into the Breach comparisons has got me even more hyped than I thought possible. In my ideal world every new roguelike is a tactical rpg instead of a card battler

Nice. My biggest gripe is the sound or lack-of. As long as they add more sound effects and maybe even character voices (like when skills are used), i think the game will be sweet.

Does he say HEVVYMASHEENGUN
No, its mostly the character select and mission start. The announcer needs to annouce way more in this!

Have the characters ever had voices before (besides their death screams), other than the PS2 game that everyone pretends doesn't exist?

No controller support is a real decision huh. I was looking forward to playing on my Steam deck.

I tried the demo for a minute on my Steam Deck and it was pretty clunky. It took a fair amount of manual tweaking just to interact with the UI. I'm hoping that gets improved by the time the full game releases. I've got so much nostalgia for the old Metal Slug games and was stoked when I heard about this game. Glad to see it's not vaporware after all this time.

The final release will support controllers. Remember it will be released in all the consoles too

It's pretty clear who in here has played Into the Breach and who hasn't. SRPG gameplay has been proven to work within a roguelike formula — the question is whether this game does it well.
Haha my thoughts exactly.
To anyone in here who haven't played Into The Breach, do it NOW! (Protip: if you are a Netflix customer, you can play it for free on Android and iOS)

Beat it twice earlier

Good for now but I wish you aren't locked in to characters the whole area

Yeah cool to see they were clearly inspired by Into The Breach.
The demo didn't grab me at the moment. It wasn't always clear if I could shoot from a roof and some cover structures seemed to have strange rules, even when attacking from behind ?

The cover shield points that you get when move next to an obstacle works for any incoming attack from any angle, yes.

You can only shoot to any objective in the same height, with the exception of grenades.

i went into this blind expecting to play XCOM Chimera Squad and got bodied lol - reading that it's more ITB made it click instantly after that

wishlisted, definitely a good time

yeah, exactly this- it's also super on brand with a very specific flavor of self-aware Metal Slug humor on one hand, and an interesting tactical twist (which, again, makes it more Into the Breach than XCOM) on the other

In my admittedly very brief time with the demo, I didn't find the mechanics immediately intuitive or satisfying. I played through the opening mission and a bit of another, and I found the movement and attack options very restrictive. While it's by clearly by design, I'd be lying if I said it didn't seem clunky contrasted with the the absolutely incredible spritework. I'm also coming off the extremely mechanically sound Tactical Breach Wizards demo.

Played the demo and encountered a bug where I couldn't use eri's ability to throw double grenades. Overall I had fun but i would like if the 4 characters all were out for the missions instead of 3.

You have to target 2 different target ranges, and they can't be adjacent. It's weird and not sure if intentional.

This game looks nice, now imagine if it was an actual video game where you have to use your reflexes and was fun!

/s

I hope fans of the genre enjoy this and wish enough success to justify another Metal Slug!

It was my first impression too. But after two failed runs the game clicked on me, and when I was able to combo actions and defeat 7 enemies in one turn I was completely sold.

Anyway, Tactical Breach Wizards is superb and clearly plays in a higher league. Also, Metal Slug Tactics demo need more polish. At the end, I cannot complain to be able to play a solid and a excellent strategy/puzzle games.

its not a bug you have to target different squares for it to work

if you target the same square it would just stack up over and over which is the bug i guess

or maybe it is a bug and it should allow to target the same target twice?
