Game had pretty much stock parity at launch. Initial sell-through was very high for both versions.Regardless of carts taking more time to manufacture, market research from their last few Switch games would make it apparent that having stock parity between the two versions would've been a solid outcome instead of what is repeating again now. Which is worse because it's a shortage during a pandemic.
I have to hand it to the late Revolsin. They thought 2M was doable, and I doubted it. It sure looks like MHGU is going to do 2M. Amazing performance, being a late port of a deluxe edition of a spin-off that furthermore looks distinctly like a 3DS.So looking at Capcom's recently updated Platinum and Franchise charts (and doing some fuzzy math) it appears the DMC1-3SE ports may have collectively sold 500k on Switch. Also DDDA may have sold 600k on Switch, and MHGU should be up to 1.7m on Switch.
It's a sight to behold but I can't help but wonder if we will ever see a game sell like this in Japan again. It really is the perfect storm.Post GW update:
- Factoring March digital, Animal Crossing: New Horizons outsold New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Monster Hunter Freedom 3
- Next target is Pokémon Ruby/Saphire
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf and 6m should be reached by the end of June
- All-time record in sight !
It's a conspiracy! We've had plenty of examples of Square Enix games selling out pretty quickly on Nintendo platforms with late restocks.
Out of my mind, Final Fantasy III and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker on DS, Bravely Default on 3DS and Octopath Traveler on Switch.

Filled with anger and resentment towards Nintendo who killed it with NSO, Splatoon 2 has risen from the grave and murdered ACNH in broad daylight. Could've become best-selling game ever in Japan, such a shame.
I wonder where L5 goes from here after IE finally comes out. They have Ushiro and Megaton Musashi, but lol
I think it's just a deduction from the financial report. Nintendo reported 890k shipped at the end of March, while Famitsu was counting 745k sold as of Week 13. These last two week's sales reports are enough to put it over 1 million, even with fair sized margin of error. Not doubting them, but where do they even get such information about My Nintendo Store?
or was it deduced from Nintendo's financials?

S-E haven't learnt a damn thing since the DS era. It's remarkable how they JUST KEEP under-shipping their games; and then they whine about not selling enough.
It's just self-sabotage at this point.
Digital in Japan was around 30%If the worldwide digital share for ACNH is 50% it's absolutely crazy to me for Japan's to be... what was it, 20%?
if that's true, then rest of the world digital share is insaaaane
edit: it would be about 70% if my math is right
Watch it be MH Next

Yeah Mario Party and Mario Kart definitely benefited from that – although Mario Party did see the return of the Joy Con bundle which evens things out a bit. Did Zelda, Splatoon and Smash get some too?Vouchers helped but there were also discount periods at eShop.
At least we would have clarity on that topic then. I'm personally so sick of not exactly knowing how Capcom wants to treat the Switch in terms of MH releases. I don't even care anymore on which platform it ends up as long as I get the info, lol.

Nintendo new year's 30% off eShop promotion ends at 13 January (started at 30 December). 8 titles were included, 3 of them charted in top 20 at previous week.

Wondering which 3rd Party from Japan will show up on the PS event.
Capcom - Re8 , SF6
MH:W2
Cross gen gamesIf Capcom is a part of PS5 event, I want MatrixMan to come explain why games "take time to make" for Switch, but the same logic doesn't apply to Sony. He'll probably blabber about how PlayStation is a strong brand and blah blah sales support next-gen year 1 support while ignoring that Capcom games sold millions on previous Nintendo handhelds. He's been simping for Capcom for far too long. I wonder how long will MatrixMan use that excuse...maybe even after Switch's successor comes out?

I think that's a bit uncalled for. I've definitely disagreed with him in the past but he's good people, and hasn't done anything wrong.
Attack the points, not the people. The idea that third parties just needed time has been quite thoroughly disproven on its own merits.

Got it. Even still, the digital share for outside Japan would have to be well over 50%, pretty remarkable

With a current 30% digital ratio, Animal Crossing would be already over 6 millions.

Digital ratio drops over time, overal it would be 20-25% by now since there aren't supply problems. With a current 30% digital ratio, Animal Crossing would be already over 6 millions.
Updating the list with the announcement/data of the previous weeks
If they manage to get it before Obon and the game is reasonably priced, I could see it doing that.I feel like that is potentially too high for Yo-Kai Watch Y. I can see it struggling to reach 100K on Switch, and much less on PS4.

YW4 did 350k+ on Switch alone iirc.
Clearly lol
