The gunman opened fire and shot into the Demetres.

A witness describes what they saw:

Was just there on the walk home. Happened upon the initial scene 30-45 seconds after first shots were fired. Was interviewed as a witness. Released shortly after. Saw two victims down on the North-East corner of Logan and Danforth, with their friends/bystaanders trying to stop the bleeding. This was in the small plaza across from Tim Horton's, directly outside Alexandro's Souvlaki. After giving my statement, I was escorted back westbound, nearer to where I live. The glass storefront of Demetre's (desert shop) was shattered, shot through. That is what's captured in the video snippet spreading around of the shooter - that's him firing into Demetre's. A man on a stretcher was being taken out of the shop as I passed. Heard over an officer's radio that a nine-year-old was unfortunately shot as well. Didn't hear about their condition, only that they were being transported by ambulance to a hospital.

From what I saw, the first shots were at the Logan/Danforth plaza (mentioned above). The shooter then continued westbound on Danforth, on the north-side sidewalk, firing into restaurants at random. At this point maybe he crossed to the south-side as people with gunshot wounds were being treated all the way just past Bowden St. & Danforth. The last person I saw being treated for wounds was outside of RiverdaleMac (computer shop). So around 3 1/2 blocks of attack. Very surreal scene.

Breaking right now, local media is on the scene. People are milling about with looks of disbelief on their faces.

A witness says they heard 14-20 gunshots.

There is a massive police presence.

Will update with more.

The city has been dealing with a spike in gun violence compared to summers past. This has sparked debate over what should be done to ensure public safety.

Between this and the incel van kid I'm really not liking these seemingly more often terror attacks in Canada

Very close to my grandparents' neighborhood. They're up north right now but this is very close to 'home' for me.

Oh no :(

Are gun restrictions high in Canada?

They're moderate. Most gun-related crime is due to illegal imports from I-think-you-can-guess-where and gang violence. People want more legislation when something happens, but usually the guns involved were already illegal so... I dunno what they want.

(Tangential trivia: 70% of firearms deaths in Canada are suicides.)

CP24 is reporting 8 patients transported to local hospitals. 6 to trauma centres, one of them is presumably a minor because they were sent to Sick Kids Hospital.

Man my sister used to live on Danforth and Jones, literally two blocks from where this happened.

She's in another neighbourhood now thank goodness, but still not that far.

A little before 10:20 p.m., police, fire and EMS were dispatched to near Christina's restaurant on Danforth Ave. by Logan Ave. for reports of a shooting.

Numerous ambulances were dispatched to the scene, where police, firefighters and bystanders attended to a number of victims seen laying on the ground.

According to witnesses speaking to CityTV, at least two of the victims were young females.who reported that EMS transported at least eight patients to hospital — six to trauma centres at St. Michael's and Sunnybrook, and one to Sick Kids.

Freelance journalist Andrew Collins reports on Twitter that patients were transported to trauma centres at St. Mike's and Sunnybrook, and a young girl was taken to Sick Kids.

He also said at least one patient was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toronto paramedics report via CP24 that eight patients were taken to hospital.
